- Sometimes the telephoto zoom lens is just the better choice than the wide-angle zoom lens for landscape photography. In this video, I'm gonna show you two landscape photography sessions where the telephoto zoom lens came to the rescue and I got some absolutely amazing long lens photos. Some vibrant lone tree sunset photos and some high contrast black and white fine art photos!

I’ve always found telephoto easier to compose than wide angle. I struggle to simplify wide angle compositions. But I can pick out “mini” compositions with a telephoto easily.
I thoroughly enjoyed this, in part, due to how excited you were in describing the scenery. I also like the drone footage while you were talking.
Appreciate your enthusiasm and appreciation for whats available to you. Living in the Smoky Mountains I appreciate the foggy “smoky” look.
You have an exceptional vision for photographing epic landscapes. I am always amazed by your photos. Great work!
You are right about the Smoky Mountain look. The Appalachians in Tenn/NC often look just like those photos in Denmark that you took. Great photos and excellent video.
I’m always amazed at what lies in our own back yard...thank as always Mads for your enthusiasm and the time spent to offer such wonderful videos...as well as learning lessons...stay blessed!
Your joy is infectious ,Mads! I have been lucky enough to be able to borrow a friend's Sony 100-400 GM and am stunned by the capabilities of that lens. It hasn't been off my camera body since I got it.
I love how genuinely excited you were when you found your composition
This video is truly stunning and at the same time it makes me feel so much peacefulness!
lovely!! i enjoyed your enthusiasm and excitement being in such an incredible moment!!! Thank you!!!
Not many photographers willing to admit in their video that they have missed the Magic Light. Really appreciate your honesty 😊👍.
Very informative vlog on using 100-400mm. Thumbs Up !!
Wow! Yes the scene does remind me of the Smoky Mountains stunning layer after layer. But my favorite is the purple heather with the tree and the subject nestled under it...beautiful worl my friend!
Your enthusiasm and excitement are contagious! I live in the northern USA. When I head out for dramatic winter daybreak photoshoots, I often set up two tripods, one with a body and wide angle zoom lens and the other with a body and telephoto zoom lens. As the light and scene changes, I just go between the two setups to capture different perspectives and compositions of the area.
Clever and inspirational! Thank you Mads. Lots of patience is required for these breathtaking results.
What a joy to be surrounded by such landscapes.
Telephoto’s give the best option to fill the frame with the content you want, where you want it. Great video Mads as always 👍
Your fun and excited personality accentuated your photography.
Beautiful shots, Mads! Cheers.
Very inspiring video en great images. I really appreciate the shared info on the wide angel- and the tele lenses!
Its indeed the most spectacular compositions i have ever seen from this place. Absolute gorgeous photographs mate.
I feel a desperate need to see a video, again by you, describing how this video was created. The drone footage is but one example (albeit a prime one) of amazing techniques. In addition to being educational, this video was a joy to watch. Many thanks!
I loved these photos. Wallhangers each and every one.
Great evidence why the right answer for "what lens for landscape photography" is all of them - need the flexibility the zoom duo, preferably trio, provide depending on what the light does. What neat shot.
incredible images Mads you had a lucky day hopefully you have many more.
Wow, this is breathtaking!! I wish I was there too! Great Video! 😊👍🏼
The photos of the layers of fog flowing through the trees creates so much depth, absolutely gorgeous 🙂
You are right re England too Mads. I had a similar experience couple of weeks ago - on the forecast of possible fog, got up at 3am, drove for 75mins, walked up to top of a hill near Corfe Castle and suddenly im in a fantasy realm as the sun started to rise. So many mist/fog compositions with layers upon layers in the distance. best conditions I've ever had so know how you felt. Glad I took my 70-200mm up with me! :-)
Hi Mads, this is why I really love your channel ... it shows that you are enjoying your time :) and having fun.
Seeing this put a big smile on my face also, thanks and keep spreading the joy of photography.
Thanks a lot, João, it's hard not to be excited in such amazing conditions 😁
Couldn't stop smiling, looking at you so excited while the drone captured you. This is why I love photography
Hehe, yes, it was a fantastic evening and beautiful experience :)
One of those instances of being in the right location at the right time. Even with luck on your side, recognising how to get the best shots under these conditions requires skill, experience and knowledge. Great video 👍😍. Derek. Sydney.
Thanks a lot, Derek! And yes, a bit of luck definitely plays in!
Those final images Mads with the trees are beautiful and in those moments the sense of well being must be fabulous. A fantastic episode and a real pleasure to share in your enjoyment in the moment
Thank you so much, Jim! As per usual I really appreciate your supportive comments :)
Gorgeous images, that mist/low cloud rolling through - beautiful! Always great to share your enthusiasm! Wonderful video! All the best!
Thanks a lot, Anthony! Appreciate it :)
Great video as usual Mads. Loved to see how exited you were the those conditions. Would love to do one of your workshops someday 👍
Great images. It was fun seeing your excitement
Wow awesome Mads! I think you've shot THE best photos I've seen so far this year, incredible, loved the atmospheric beauty you captured and the Heat/Michael Mann 'esque music was worthy of such epic scenery, absolutely stunning, it doesn't get much better than this haha. Great to see your enthusiasm and excitement too it really came across well in this video.
It's always a pleasure to watch and learn from your videos dear Mads, my favorite pictures were those beautiful soft colors of the skies with the silouettes, really amazing 👌
Thank you so much, Patrick! I really appreciate it. It was such an interesting night as I really had to adapt to the situation :)
love your enthusiasm as always ❤
Wow, stunning‼️Thanks for
Sharing🙏
Great video Mads. I love your enthusiasm, it's infectious! And brilliant photos by the way.
Thanks a lot, Jeremy :)
Stunning...Wow...
Wow what a fantastic hill top location, you've picked out some really nice compositions with the long lens. The foggy conditions look great with those trees.
Love those atmospheric photos!!
Beautiful shots Mads, and excellent drone work!
Stunning inspirational imagery and enthusiasm. How a RUclips channel should be. Excellent stuff
Loved the experience you shared!!!
This is a great video. I love the images, both drone and stills. Gorgeous.
Thanks a lot, Wendy!
It's such a pleasure to watch your videos 😌
stunning Mads, those images were magical
Yes!Total Wow !Spectaular.Love this .I want to see this scene 😊
wow! it is really amazing nature pictures! super cool!!!
Ooooh that was lovely - so awesome to see and feel your excitement at the beautiful conditions. I live in a spectacular but dry, prickly and harsh part of NW Australia. We only get clouds for about 3 months of the year....and the occasional fog or mist has me running around with the camera like a crazy thing :D
Your videos are greats and greater at each publication... So inspiring !!
What a wonderful moment in time to capture.
Thank you Mads, wow what a treat !!
Wonderful images. Your enthusiasm is indeed infectious.
Thank you so much! ☺️
That sunset behind the tree is super cool. I love the shot with the purple flowers and you standing under the tree. The way the fog creates layers in the forest is very nice.
Love your stuff!
the last three photographs, especially, the vertical composition is gorgous ! I love the black and white layers fading in the distance !
Thank you! I also really appreciate those. Very unique to see that in Denmark :)
Wow! Epic - nicely done Mads.
This is just beautiful! Landscape photographer : To Make the Life Beautiful!
Amazing location, wonderful experience!
Super video, Mads. Wonderful images captured.
Oh Boy this video is the best help for me right now. Now I'm sure I'll sell my 70-200f4 for the sigma 100-400 and add the 24-105 to my kit as well. Especially looking forward using it in the autumn for woodland photography
Loved this video. Thanks!
Lovely. We had three mornings with fantastic fog here in Sweden in my neighbour hood but of course Murphy rules. This week I am working 100% again.
Your enthusiasm is contagious! Thank you.
Thank you, Larry! Appreciate it 😊
You have got my interest in my 100-400 again. Just need the R5 to use it on. With the adaptor. Great to see you, shooting from your local areas Peter.
Great photos, you do a good job showing Danish nature at it’s best.
Thanks a lot, Casper! Really appreciate it 🙏
This was such a wonderful video to watch, thanks for sharing Mads!
I am so very happy to hear that! One of the highlights of 2020 and such a nice surprise :)
Wow, that was so epic. Great shooting and video!
What An amaizing set off pictures!
Thank you very much, Joachim!
The shots you got were amazing. You really know your stuff!
I am going to the east of Finland next week. To a mountain called Koli. This was inspiring.
Just love it when the clouds are catching fire shortly after sunset 😍
These moments are just awesome!
... especially when all the other photographers already packed their stuff and are about to leave...
If I learned something concerning sunsets it's always to stay until the very end until ALL light is gone 🙂
You're absolutely right, I've made the same experience. Suddenly the sky can catch fire out of nowhere :)
Im so happy I found your channel. Amazing guides and out of this world photos! (Jag är så glad att jag hittat din kanal! Mycket bra guider och makalösa bilder!
Thank you very much, Jonas! I'm happy you like it 😊
I'd be happy to be where you are, even without a camera. The scenery and fog excite my nerves. It takes that normal scene during a regular day and creates something new, scary, wonderful. Keep enjoying your love of photography.
That first black and white photo of the tree lines is amazing!
That drone shot at 9:06 is just amazing!!!! Wow! Mads!!
I'm about to take a few day trip to Rocky Mountain National Park around Estes Park, CO. I've been struggling with which lenses to I carry on my hikes. Your video has led me to taking my 24-105mm and my 100-400mm. It's a very delightful video.
incredible pictures! Congratulations :)
Beautiful!
What a stunning atmosphere. I am really jealous :) Great video Mads.
Thanks a lot, it's just about getting out there :)
Your enthusiasm at 9:00 is seriously uplifting!
Enthusiasm for the win. Glad someone gets as excited at epic conditions as I do! Fanatic video Mads!
Thank you so much, Ashley! Happy to hear I'm not the only one :)
Thanks for this great video and those stunning images!
I am very often on the top of the mountains because I love to hike, and I always take with me a wide-angle and a tele lens (it's an additional weight on my back but worth the pain). I can enjoy great and wide views, and I always struggle to find the right lens and focal length, because my instinct tends to include in the shot all that I see.
But in the end, the very wide vistas as well as the incredible dynamic range of the scene, make some of the shots useless. Still learning...thanks again!
Bravo... Excellent stuff
Great video, thanks! I think we sometimes underestimate the usefulness of zoom lens, in my opinion, they are very versatile despite what is usually thought.
Love your content man.. awesome captures. I just want to take this opportunity to thank you for inspiring me to get out and shoot photos. Thanks for making photography more interesting. And just ordered my 100-400 gm after watching your video. ✌🏼✌🏼
Thanks a lot for the kind words, Waqas. You'll be happy about it :)
I'm in the US and things are so dark and dreary here. Thanks for such an upbeat and wonderful video, I enjoyed it very much!
Photo at 12.15 WOW, simply WOW.
Should make a great print.
Thanks for sharing again Mads.
Thanks a lot, John! Appreciate it. I really like that one too :)
Great photos..... wish I was there.
You make beautiful pictures. 👌
I surprised myself at the beach one evening with my 70-300, I just left the 18-35 in the bag and got so many good shots that I would have never even seen with just a wide lens!
Excellent !
When I saw the photo with the purple bush and the silhouette under the tree you got my immediate like! What a shot!!
Thanks a lot, Aris, it turned out really good :)
Awesome thanks 🙏
Amazing work there I've been showing you for a while now keep it up.
Thank you very much, happy you like my videos :)
@@MadsPeterIversen Yeah I've learnt so much with you and even when there's not much to learn tooter passionate way of talking about photography just has me captivated. Just know that you inspire others!!!
I guess that's the beauty of exploring your own country in every season... I also didn't know it gets so foggy in summer in Slovenia as it did this year :) very nice video as always, please don't take the Nerve medicines, your excitement is contageous and inspiring! :)
Yes! I absolutely love how you find out your own country is so beautiful. And I bet you have SO much en Slovenia :)
And those trolls just ought to know how my mind works ;)
That reaction at 9:15 contuining is priceless, every true photographer is feeling you in this moment. :)
Joined your channel, beautiful footage. Picked up photography so I can use some of your experience.
epic conditions:D loved the video
