    Another great video Keith, very informative. My question is "how do you know when your child has left college, if you don't have any contact with them? Cheers

      Good question! I would support your suspicions to the Child Benefit Agency from 1st September. If the other parent has not told them, they might do when the CBA call them.

    hi keith. can you also share knowledge about tax free childcare is there any benifit if we are payjng for nursery full time for our child while paying to ex for child maintenance.

      Not 100 per cent up to speed on nursery costs, but my understanding is that you save on tax and NI costs and therefore take home more pay. CMS is not changed. So you should be slightly better off.

    Are you able to help with a bit of a complex query about child maintenance? We are still paying CM for a child who is 19 but still in full time education. However the child also have a full time job working 40 hours per week. There is no information around payments stopping if the child works only that it should continue if they are in education. Does their employment status affect CM at all?

      The view is that a child can work around education. I know I did. However, has the child ever had a break from education? Did they leave college at 18 or younger, and go back after 19th birthday? Or were they already at college when they turned 19. Are you sure they are still in education?

      @childmaintenanceuk thank you, they are still in education. They started a course at college then changed their mind on what they wanted to do so what should have been second year a levels they tried to get an apprenticeship but couldn't get the working side so for the last 2 years they have been doing the nvq side. Someone just mentioned about stopping once they,atr in full time work but I wasn't sure that was true. They turn 20 in 9 months so it doesn't make a huge difference anyway

      Assuming she is no longer enrolled in college in March, her child benefit should finish at the end of May. You will need to report this to CMS, who will initially decline it on the assumption that your child finishes after the summer exams.

    Hi thank you for this video. I am very confused because my daughter is in college. Her hours dropped so under 12hrs and she's 19. She turned 19 last Dec. Thought Child Benefit would stop but it didn't so I called them and they told me no it continues because she has exams. Yet this is nowhere in the write ups? I don't want to find I sometime owe them CB back! Also I called Child Maintenance because her Dad stopped that because we at time thought CB was. CM told me that no he should pay it because I still getting CB but because again its not in writing online anywhere he says he shouldn't. Can you advise please. Thank you.

      You can’t apply for child benefit once they reach 19, but it can continue to be paid until their 20th birthday. Because child benefit is being paid, child maintenance continues, again potentially up until their 20th birthday. But in your case it will end on the 31st August. The less than 12 hours is an issue potentially but as child benefit are continuing to pay, they have deemed it not to be, on the basis of exams. You might like to double check with them.

    6th form then college? Payable?

    • @childmaintenanceuk
      @childmaintenanceuk  8 месяцев назад

      Typically yes, but depends upon the course. If its GCSEs and A Levels, no question its payable.
