How do you know if your 1920 was supposed to have the pump diaphragm spring, sleeve and check ball? Someone took my carburetor apart previous to me buying my car. The pump return spring is missing. I purchased one of your rebuild kits. After I took it apart this was all discovered. Thanks!

TY Mike. I am rebuilding one now and was going to make a YT video on rebuilding this carburetor. My Carb has a heat spring choke that I cant seem to find a new spring that sets on the manifold of my 225 slant 6. I thought I was ordering from Napa, but I ended up receiving a vacuum kick back. It was ironic because the carb has one of these on it and it works but since its 50 years old I'm going to put the new one on anyway. I got a kit from Car Quest for 42 dollars, LOL I remember when they were like 12.
Hello I have a Holley 1920 carburetor on a 1968 scout, I bought a,rebuilt one, but when you brake or hit a bump it stalls or will die hard to start back when that happens, what do you think it needs ,thanks 😊
hey mike. I'm rebuilding my 1920. I took it apart and my instructions show a float spring but mine did not have a float spring. was wondering if by chance some did not have a spring?
the ebay carburetors had warped small inside casting. I fixed 1. The pump works. A bit of trouble still. maybe back the ignition timing off. set idle up. later though.
also watch ignition rotor position. Note that there is a small movement with increasing vacuum. Right now I suspect that I need to open the points too bring the rotor to a wire post at a lower rpm. It stalls and wont run at extra econo speed.
225 dodge - I have gotten close to 40 mpg on trip to felton from santa cruz. I turn the motor off and roll. Needs choke to idle.I change it to manual choke.
also -intake and exhaust valves were adjusted without measurement - for 15 years - about 15 minutes to loosen. extra power. the cam is not the same clearance. leaves one open.
I wanted to ad a comment that if you are not the adventure type, and or run into some of the more difficult problems proposed in this video, there is the option to buy this carburetor in new condition for around 200 dollars. I think its a bit high for what the carb is, however between the 42 dollar rebuild kit and 17 for the vacuum choke kick back diaphragm on mine. 23 dollars for a gallon can of Berrymans parts cleaner ect. You get the point, I'm at half price of a carb that I should be able to throw right on the car and start it. I think some one has rebuilt mine at least once because its not as varnishy as the one in this video, however I am thinking that the gas in the tank could be super old and I dont trust it. The gas gauge also doesn't work, so I plan on draining, dropping, and cleaning the tank and while I have it down putting in a new pickup tube with float and sending unit. I also need or want to pick up a new main jet. the check balls are not stuck but I was a tad irritated that they didn't put one, and or 3 in the rebuild kit. Happy Rebuilding guys, and ladies.
some notes.head bolts broke 2008. used wd40 to test seal pistons. replaced pistons 2011. corburetor from ebay had the 5 " inside carburetor" screws backed off . leaked for 1 year. 18 mpg. pump did not work. I modified gasket. leaked 18mpg. could not adjust screw because of the leaks. 5 jets total. 1) pump jet 2) after pipe jet left 3) #55 jet to middle stream 4)variable inlet jet right 5)idle jet screw---- this ebay carburetor: 1/4 turn or stumble == inside carburetor has several different variable types. not many people have ever seen the variable in action. maybe i return to 25mpg.

what do you soak the carb in to clean it?
