    You need a couple solar panels and a couple deep cycle batteries! That will get you through in emergency situations. I have gone 2 full days on 3 deep cycle batteries and 2 100 watt solar panels running a ceramic heater and electric appliances in sunny weather. Batteries never got below the yellow light.

    Maybe when your house battery is charged, your generator electric start will work. Same for the propane water heater. It needs 12v for the control and ignition functions.

    Hey Pippi! Love you channel!
    Sorry for the RV issues.. :(
    A new battery is definitely a good idea. I’ve never seen a factory 12vDC electric water heater in an RV. Usually it’s a 120vac element and/or a 12vdc igniter & propane.
    A couple things:
    Make sure you didn’t trip the safety valves in the propane tanks. This will cause the flow to be extremely limited, and can cause the types of issues your experiencing.
    To reset ; shut off all propane using appliances and shut the tank valves and disconnect from the rv. Gently tap the tank on the ground a few times to reset the valve. The tanks are manifolded together so you only need to have one tank turned on. Move your propane selector to the tank you want to use and slowly open the valve just a bit to let it fill the system. After a few mins open the valve fully and purge the air out using your cooktop for a few mins.
    Here are some basic troubleshooting tips for a propane water heater.
    Get your self an electric multi meter that’ll read ac/dc.
    Replace the 12v battery.
    Turn off ac power to the water heater.
    When you switch the WH on/to propane does it try to spark? You should hear a rapid tic tic tic. If not then check 12v fuses. There should be 12vdc coming into the heater on either a toggle switch near the WH or a control board. Probably a red or white wire.
    If you do hear the WH trying to ignite, you should also hear the gas valve click on and propane hissing as it passes into the burner. If you don’t hear the gas valve click on, check to see if it has 12v power. If it has 12v, replace the valve, if not check the Thermostat and high temp cut out switches to see what’s stopping the valve from getting power. If there’s no power anywhere in the valve circuit replace the control board.
    If you hear the valve click on but no gas is coming thru. Check the propane regulator and check the propane orifice in the burner for obstruction.
    As for the gen. The low oil level safety switch is a common failure item. They fault to ground, so if you disconnect the wire going to it, it will be bypassed. If that’s the problem the gen should start, if not I can give you some more things to check.
    Happy RVing!!

    I hate electrical problems. I'm pretty good at fixing most of them, but it's the Gremlins that'll drive you nuts. Here are some things I've learned over the years so keep in mind. Low voltage can keep relays, and injectors from working properly. Relays going bad are not consistent while failing. Working for hours before failing, then not work at over times, then work sometimes. The relay gremlin can cost you a lot of money and time before you finally figure it out. As far as your generator goes try a jump wire on your low oil sensor. If it starts you know what needs fixed. It's what went out on mine.

  • @donbrackenreg2270
    @donbrackenreg2270 4 года назад

    Two or perhaps three from an Aussie full time on the road for 28 years. I don't have a generator, but if it is getting fuel, and the sump is full of oil, the only other thing is the spark. Can you fit a new plug, and also check if the coil is sending enough current to the plug? With all three lpg bottles playing up, it could be the pressure regulator has gone. They are easy to fit, and just make sure it is higher than the lpg bottle outlet. If you have destroyed your existing battery, and you need to replace it, consider a deep cycle glass mat battery, or an even newer one, a lead crystal battery, which are far cheaper than lithium. I presume you have an mppt controller from your solar panels, which can be helped by a bcdc charger in line near the battery. Also, are the solar panels clean, it doesn't take much to cut down their output. Also do you have a battery charger connected to your shore power to keep your battery topped up. Sorry for being so long winded, but power has certainly come a long way from candles for light, and a fire pit outside for cooking.

    If you have a set of booster cables that is long enough, then start up your main engine and try to boost your house battery. I had something similar happen and it turned out that my house batteries had enough power to crank over the generator but not enough voltage to power its circuit board while cranking.... When I used a booster pack on my house battery, the generator started and ran fine. Good luck and never give up :)

    Pippi, I have found in the past that sometimes the LP feels like it has liquid in it but it is inert liquid not propane. It needs to be drained well before you refill it. 🙂 I found out the hard way by thinking something was wrong with the tank reg but the guy who fills it told me it just needs drained. Hope this helps.😎

    • @stephenpowstinger733

      If the tanks use a propellant like aerosal spray cans then maybe that could be left. But it would negate the whole idea of propane refills.

    Perhaps your RV has a propane safety valve? These valves also have an audible alarm. These valves need two sources of DC to satisfy itself that it is safe to supply propane. This to ensure your auto flash pilots are going to function.
    After you run out of propane these valves/switches have to be reset. There is a switch on these valves: on-off. You must have 12V at the valve and propane. If the switch is OFF, turn it ON. It will go to alarm, cheep cheeping. Put up with the cheeping a little while, then switch to OFF again. Repeat until the alarm does not sound with switch left at ON position. This purges air out of gas lines.
    These valves are directly below the gas cooking stove if you have one because the safety valve also detects gas leaking in stove area.
    So get your 12V in order and then bleed the air via the safety valve.
    Good luck to you

    • @PippiPeterson
      @PippiPeterson  4 года назад

      Thank you for this. I have run out of propane while running the generator before and haven’t had to do this. So I may assume I don’t have those. Also no beeping but good to know for other cases!

    That's a weird setup. All of them I've seen all propane equipment runs off the same line. It may be the generator that is on its own bottle, but the rest of the RV should run off one gas line. That way you can have one tank running things while you disconnect the empty tank and run into town.
