Pull black choke. Get top dead center with kick start. DO NOT TOUCH THE THROTTLE. Kick full power. Should start right up. Not touching throttle is the key.! Get rid of decompression switch!!! If you foul the plug. You guessed it. Gas tank is coming off and get you something to get down to that plug. A couple times doing that and you will learn the procedure. Very finicky but great bikes
Okay I've checked valve clearances and figured I would change the cam chain after I got it running well. I'm gonna go change the chain now hopefully that works.
Thx I’m Buying one within the next week and it has done a complete rebuild and it will not start I think all I need to do is set timing and measure the valves correctly
Make sure your motor is top dead center. The dots should be straight and and the tick marks should be parallel with the top of the head. You can stick your finger into the chain tensioner hole putting pressure on the guide to make sure they are aligned properly.
@@FoursquareT oh thanks on such a fast answear, so I dont have to count the dots on the chain than it is more important that on cams dots are straight and tick marks parallel with the top of the head?
So I was riding and the bike was running fine then then it started to bog out in 3rd so I went to second then first and limped it to camp. Now it’s extremely hard to kickstart idk what happened
FoursquareT oh gosh too many man I’ve had it for just about over a year never any major surgery needed. When I bought it 5th gear was blown out but everything else works properly I’ve never gotten around to fixing it and then this happens
Graham Bikes head over to ThumperTalk. Online or the app. Lots of great people over there full of knowledge. eBay is great you might be able to get a full transmission pretty cheap
@@trevornewton9687 finicky old yz’s I had a trick to start them. Hold the decomp lever in and slowly kick 3 times. Release decomp lever and find top dead center. Once compression it built pull lever without moving the kick starter. Give it a squirt of gas by twisting the throttle and kick. It’s cold now so you will need the choke on.

dont use decompression switch at all?

These bike are really reliable once tuned. Tight valves are normally the reason for a no start.
@@FoursquareT How do you loosen them?
@@nathanfrigerio3473 you need to replace the valve shims with ones that are in clearance spec.
Extreamly helpful, thank you
Great video man💯
When putting the timing chain…how many dots should be on the chain between the two dots on cam shafts?

@@janjakus3596 correct.
@@FoursquareT thank you very much sir you helped me a lot, I was confused by the manual and counting dots. Cheers
Got an 03 that bags and lags at open throttle
what fuel tank you have?
Sorry for the late reply. It’s an ims dessert tank.
Good video thanks
Hey having problems with my 250f big bord
kicks really hard and won’t stay tuning just dies out what could be the issue??
Sounds like your exhaust shims are too tight. Also check your pilot jet and accelerator pump diaphragm

Sounds like the big end bearing is going. How many hours on the crank and piston?

I still can’t get mine to start extremely annoying
Can you bump start it? Does it have a decomp lever?
@@FoursquareT yes it does have a decompression lever and I tried bump starting it earlier but I don’t honestly know how to do that 😂

@@trevornewton9687 also I would check your fcr carb to see if the acceleration pump is working properly and not clogged.
@@FoursquareT okay thanks ! And I will take a look at the carb
So hard to start
