This is why I always try to remind myself to calm down and wait. Unless I’m a plant breeder, I don’t need it in my procession right away. They will eventually get cheaper!
That was me in photos of the Thai Con and the Michelle with my left hand. 😂
I got 4 of the $19.98 ones at the Bellevue, WA location. They’re so big and almost every one of them have inflorescence. The Bellevue store thought they were too expensive and marked them down to $19.98 as a Calathea. Even though they are a vendor product and not allowed to mark them down
We have also had $20 Warocqueanum, Magnificum X Crystallinum, and a Clari hybrid. Not to mention Monstera Albos at one Costco location. It’s amazing finding all these once rare plants for so cheap in big box stores.
Im glad cause I hate with a passion growing out seedlings..its nice to be able to get a bigger plant at the cost of tiny seedlings off Esty
Yes! Anthurium can be tough too! This is a great deal for a large, flowering anthurium, even at $95
I was at HD tonight (Central OR) and there was one of these anthurium Michelle left on the shelf marked at $95 (I didn’t get it). An employee saw me looking at it though and said that they had received a shipment of “like 50 of them and people have been buying them like crazy.” There was also a three-tier cart packed with nicely variegated Thai Cons from Proven Winners for $45 each!
I saw this on Reddit the other day and I have now seen everything! I thought I'd seen everything with Thai Cons but now I really have seen everything!
Doc Block is in Miami. Drea from Aloha Plant life went to his place after the IAS. He gave her a tour of the property and they had a nice long chat. He reminds me of Mr. Rogers.
He does remind me of Mr. Rogers! Makes sense he's in Florida -- all the best breeders!
Patiently waiting on the East coast.
Check out new jersey if you're in that area!
@prettyingreen We're further south in Georgia .
Yes, I live in Spokane Valley, WA, and yes they were $95
Daaaang. Ask for a deal 😅😂
@prettyingreen I didn't get one, but a few local Facebook groups I am in were showing them. I was too slow!!
on a recent vlog, the vlogger mentioned that the breeder has a small space for anthurium production. he mentions that docbloc sells via distributors and earns through royalty fees for every plant sold.
We had Dorayaki here in the northeast as well
I bought one too! $20 I couldn't believe it but yeah, KS
I'm in Northeast NJ might have to check out home depot this week.
Also love Proven Winners, my outdoor garden is full of their plants. Always healthy and colorful, long blooms, etc.
Dannnnggggg I wish my local Home Depots had any sort of decent houseplant sections. Even if they do come to Canada, my local stores won’t get anything good.
Yep. Don't I know it
Not in Florida!,. I checked in 2 Home Depot’s and nothing!!. I will wait and wait and wait. 😅😅
No, I don't think it's ethical to take the plants from local people. If they sit there for weeks and no one buys them, then I will take them in an effort to re-home. But not with in demand plants. That's messed up regardless of what the item/product is.
Yesss
Great point!
What difference is if you buy 10 plants from a nursery or home depot and resell them.
I just bought a Michelle from
Rare Plant Fairy with a signed tag from DocBlock
I can’t wait for those Doc Blocks to come to GA but yes will be examining for spider mites. I would trust nurseries more.
And we also are home base for Kroger and Kroger always has better plants in other states which really pisses me off since there is a Kroger on just about every corner in Cincinnati. They need to step up their game at all the stores in cincy because most big box stores here always get the same ole crap
I worked as a grower for a Big box stores. What you save in purchase price, you will spend in pest treatment, Sorry, but they won't invest in knowledgeable growers, so no one I worked with could identify a thrip, or spider mite. They are also potted and packed in a grouping of 1000's, so only the plants on the outer edges get treated properly.
I do not think it is ethical to buy them all up at a cheap price and then reselling them. I understand if you import and aclimate them, and put effort into them, but not if you just hoard them from a big box store. Then again, if your client does not care and is willing to pay hundreds, I guess to each their own.
My friend got a Doc Block "Michelle" for $98 at Home Depot in Southeastern Washington State. WOW!
DocBlock is based in Florida but probably has contracts for TC in multiple labs worlwide. Here in EU prices for all DocBlock anthuriums are crushing down too and Dutch wholesalers are starting to sell them and not only the Michelle. Some resale growers thought once that these too expensive anthuriums hybrids will be the Holy Graal and that they will earn a lot of money. They probably subscribed an exclusive contract for the distribution with a minimum of plants per year but...the retail prices were too high (250€ for a 3 leaves Michelle in 10cm pot, 350€ for others crosses) for the massive expected sales. And now these growers bypassed a part of these anthuriums to wholesalers . All these hybrids are nice but they're are all more or less the same (except the red velvet cake and the dark and handsome). And above all that, there's the concurrence of direct sales from Ecuador and Indonesia...
VERY interesting details! i think there's more to explore on Doc Block in general...
Oh I wish I could find this in a big box store here in the UK , but maybe we will catch up in a few years. Brexit means it is harder and more expensive to import plants from Europe so the range available in store isn’t very exciting.
indonesiab anthurium still my favorite
They are huge too!
Good. I love anthurium, but lots of those plant prices are outrageous for many people.
They popped up in my Home Depot in south Jersey yesterday. Someone posted it so I went and all of them were gone within a few hours of the post lol 😂 I think a lot of people bought multiple 😅
Ohhh damn! That is how it goes
Dorayaki and Forgetii got released in CA. No, I wasn't lucky enough to secure any despite driving to five diff HD. 🤣
I found a Doc Block Michelle at $95 for it.
Darn. I don’t see them in my state. :b
Hopefully we all get them soon!!
I'll go check tomorrow
Same
We had them at our Home Depot in Salem, OR. $94.98
Not rare anymore! They are going to be grown at scale by Proven Winners. Another amazing video!
Thanks Shane!!
Thankyou!😊
I contacted PROVEN WINNERS & they said there are NONE AVAILABLE in Florida at all. They said ONLY IN MIDWEST AND EASTCOAST of country?
I’m in Cincinnati and I got a obliqua monstera for 17.00 and it was 74.99 but we never get anything good at our Home Depot’s they suck here!!!!
They are selling for $94.98 in NJ
Which store did you check? Just for other east coasters to see!
@prettyingreen Sorry. I should have mentioned the Home Depot in NJ is selling the Michele anthurium for $94.98.
it drives me crazy that these "rare" plants show up in northern markets and, down here in Florida where we can grow them outside, they take a year or more to show up. Even in the non-rare circles it is the same. They have been getting Harlequin Cordyline up north for two years, they just appeared in the nurseries and big box stores here in the last month. On the flip side, I guess, we have bag baby orchids all of the time and a nice variety, while they are rarely offered outside FL and CA.
I know that is kinda weird especially since Doc Block is based in FL!!
Doc Block has seemed to be promoting his brand for a while now. I thought this was coming.
yes he is now even active in posting youtube videos. in his recent interview, he mentioned that he gets royalty for every plant sold. active promotion means they have lots of plants ready for the demand
They have them in L. A. now. $94
Which HD stores?
@@prettyingreen Glendale. Very good quality with big leaves.
Notice nothing in Michigan
Doc block had announced this in his discord a while back.
Where is your guys home depot? Im in valley and wondering which Los Angeles hd has alot of plants
I checked Marina del rey last night and nothing!
Steins in Wisconsin found a Carla blackiea for 12.99 marked as a flamingo anthurium lmao
Woahhh that's a GREAT deal!
And of course Wisconsin gets left in the dust 🪴💨
:/
Not in utah so sad
No, its not a michelle. Its a producer from the Netherlands. They sell there plants world wide
Home Depot really making me wish I didn't live in Europe😅
hahaha you all get so many cheap awesome aroids!!
First!!
🫡
anybody found some in Home Depot in TN?
It’s really messed up that Doc Block sets the prices really high everywhere to turn around and put them at Home Depot for $20. I spent 195 and now I can’t even sell it for half the price overnight.
Agreed. To be fair, it looks like they were accidentally marked down by home depot. But retail is significantly less than the $195 now :/
