I used to live a few valleys over from them. Seen them live so many times. If you ever get a chance to see them live. Do it and don't question it. Just do it 😁
Seen them in 2002 at a festival in Ireland. They walking onto the stage,’we are the stereophonics’ then straight into the show. No dicking about, just bloody great music in a fantastic live performance. What a great band.
I've seen a lot of bands live and nobody but nobody sounds just exactly the same live as they do on the album. Obviously we love it when a live stage show is somehow different from the album. But I mean it as a huge compliment that you can't tell the difference between the phonics live and a recorded studio version. They are just that polished.
Love this band, I am from the next town to them in Wales and even though I moved away 33 years ago to do my nurse training, Wales will always be my home !! I know exactly where they are coming from. 1000 trees is ironic and true about anything in life and I will never get bored of hearing it!!
Still love belting this out.... Thousand trees holds a story, most of the early Stereophonic songs were written about characters and individuals in and around Aberdare 👍
+wight warren nothing better than when Wales beat England in rugby and after the match stereophonics are put on in your welsh pub.. Goosepimples... Going to see them dec 12th cannot wait
jason tennant Wales always have a strong rugby team. After the euros we start to see a very strong welsh footy team also. "Don't take me home" was the most epic chant during the Wales euro games!
it only takes one tree to make a thousand matches, it only takes one match to burn a thousand trees 🎶 most profound lyric I've heard ever. to this day.
La primera canción del PES a la que le presté atención como para buscarla y no me arrepiento, tremendo mensaje y aún mejor fue descubrir que su vocalista Kelly Jones cumple años el mismo dia que yo XD
Some of this was filmed outside my flat in Greenwich when I was a young lad in a band. I remember being just a bit jealous at the time which clouded my judgement on how talented kelly is!
I remember when I first heard it it gave me goosebumps. I had to have this song. I used JetAudio or something to record this song from PES 2010. It's been around 10 years since I've first heard this. Still one of my most favourite songs. Probably because of the Tree/Matches metaphor. Or maybe just nostalgia. Either way, I love this.
La primera vez que escuché a Stereophonics fue por esta canción. Siempre agradeceré haber puesto atención a esta canción, para luego buscarla y encontrar a la que será por siempre mi banda preferida.
This song is about a football coach who fiddled kids, the way Kelly is able to write a song about it and how the village reacted just shows his incredible talent as a song writer. Writing about life that's what the phonics have always been about 🤘 Welsh Legends
@@darthattenborough1145 it was a rumour, but because of how severe the rumour was the coach’s reputation was ruined and he couldn’t go back to coaching because of it

The song brings back childhood beautiful memories. In 2010 me and my brother and our friends we used to gather at home every weekend and play PES 2010 game. We used to do tournaments and compete with each other. It was extremely fun. 😢💔
Had a hard time downloading this song before Limewire came out, thanks to my brother who kept a stock of 90s songs. Now I'm hearing it again after a decade, in one click.
This is the first phonics song I ever heard (back when word gets around came out), it's still my favourite. If they'd stayed close to their original style they would still be my favourite band but sadly many of their songs became droney and forgettable. I hope their new album is good (I want to see them again on the next tour cycle), I like a few of the songs off each album since JEEP came out but those first 3 albums were the better ones imo, I still love them because of those albums though.
+mischiefmaker1000 You've pretty much nailed it mate. First 2 albums were brilliant, J.E.E.P has it's moments (singles were disappointing) but from then on it was downill for me bar the odd half decent track. Cest la Vie is up there with their best material though. Great song.
I grew up walking that street to Meridian Primary School on Old Woolwich Road, Greenwich, London. Look it up on Google Maps, you'll see that nothing has really changed since this was filmed. Just up the road, on Caradoc Street they've filmed music videos, including 'The Importance of Being Idle' by Oasis and Billie's 'Why You Gotta Play That Song So Loud?'. Also, the 90's Krays movie was filmed on Caradoc Street and I'm pretty sure some Doctor Who was recorded there, too.

Playing PES 2010 with my 2 brothers day and night. This songs brings memories that I will cherish forever .😢❤
Shame people don't mention them much now but the phonics first two albums are up there in terms of British music. Absolutely essential.
Mark Lane I totally agree. One of the best debut albums - along with Arctic Monkeys, Supergrass, Bluetones and The Libertines.
@@dellafenton2417 Might I add Oasis to this list :)
Totally agree. The first two albums were ridiculously good. Every song could be a single!
Totally agree and delighted no one used the ridiculous "underrated" term about them.

I understand entirely
I think it's because this song feels hopeful but ultimately knows it's in vain.
I get you
Something whether it be measurable or not has disappeared from the days when we grew
There is a Welsh word for this feeling of longing: Hiraeth
I feel that too, It feels of our never coming back young years during the 90s. But we are still young in our head !

It started with a school girl
Who was running
Running home to her Mam and Dad

They said tell us again, she told them again, tell us the truth, they find it hard to believe
'Cause he taught our I was steve, he even trained me, taught our John who's a father of three
Only takes one tree, to make 1000 matches
Only takes one match, to burn A thousand trees
A thousand trees
You see it in the classroom
In the swimming pool
Where the match stick men are made
At the scout's hall
At the football
Where the wise we trust are paid
They all honour his name
He did a lot for the game
Got his name knocked up above the sports ground gates
But they're ripping them down, stamping the ground
Picture gathers dust behind the bar in the lounge
Only takes one tree, to make a thousand matches
Only takes one match, to burn a thousand trees
A thousand trees
Wake up, and smell the rain
Shake up, he's back to stay
He hasn't been on a holiday
His growing seeds don't believe
Why he's been away
From the school yard
Changing room
Playing field
Bathroom
Phone box
Office blocks
Corners turn around
They keep doubting the flame, tossing the blame
Got his name knocked up above the sports ground gates
And they're ripping them down, stamping the ground
Picture gathers dust in the bar
Only takes one tree, to make a thousand matches
Only takes one match, to burn A thousand trees
A thousand trees
A thousand trees
