RUclips recommended your channel and now I have watched all your videos. I am danish, but spent some time in the states. So interesting to hear your perspective on things. Keep it up :)
Born & raised in Tennessee, 45 minutes north of Nashville. I've been expanding my knowledge of just how crazy different culture is between the U.S. and other countries. I was recommended to check out your channel and react to some of your videos. So awesome that I can actually visualize your comparisons. Have a great day! 😄
Earlier you asked for places to see, i suggested Fredericia and you could actually combine a trip, with your tuesday food. In Fredericia we celebrate, that we fought back the germans in the 18 hundreds, and it goes every year 6 th of july, and we have Chicken with potatos and cucubers, with a dessert. Strawberry and cream, it is also a jazz and other kinds of music style festival, it starts 5th of july and finish th 7th of july. And yes there will be cannons fired on the 6th of july :)
I had a coworker that commuted from Tullahoma to Nashville every day. He had the option to work from home a couple of days a week but just liked being in the office. There is the Nashville Star commuter train and of course the bus system. Very limited but at least we tried... Cars are just more convenient when everything is so spread out.
Long commute consuming tons of gas! There was a time when I lived in Murfreesboro and worked some days in Nashville and some in Tullahoma. I was putting way too many miles on my car. For sure, I absolutely needed it to survive.
Just came across your channel, and I’m so impressed with your content and your approach to living in a completely new country. When you were bringing the hot chocolate to your mouth after taking a bite of the French hotdog, I was going:”no, no , no!”, at my screen, lol. It must have been someone trolling you, if they suggested to try that 😆. Growing up, I always wanted to visit the US as my uncle immigrated there back in the late 40’s. He lived in Jacksonville, TN, but unfortunately he passed away a couple of years ago. I wish you all the best living here!
Hi! Saw your channel yesterday. Now ive watched 4 of your videos. Gotta say! You guys seem sooooo nice i love it and your take on Denmark! Love it when you compare things or say what you think about things you see and experience here! My favorite was your visit to Aarhus. :) Dont be afraid to be more critic about the food even though i dont understand why you dont like varm leverpostej :D hehe. I hope you will do more of the videoes where you try to give your take on things that are different. Love from Aarhus!
Thank you! We always enjoy making it over to Århus when we can! We are really looking forward to being able to get out more so we can do more fun experience videos. :)
If memory serves me right, Sanne Salmonsen (Danish Rock Mama) recorded an album “Where Blue Begins” in Memphis, Tennessee, released in Denmark in 1991.
I can't tell you how glad I am that your RUclips channel popped up in my sugestions today 😀 As a Dane it is so interesting to hear about your experiences with comming here, and it really gives some helpful insights on how newcommers view daily life here, and how one can help make people who come to the country feel more welcome and included😉 P.S I really like your “Try On Tuesday” series, and can’t wait to see what you are going to try next. Perhaps the popular jyde nachos (aka Jutland nachos) consisting on slightly varmed salted potato chips server with a classic brown gravy made from roast pork drippings (aka flæskestegs sovs) - it’s an insanely popular snack around christmas... or basically whenever you decide to make flæskesteg😂
Both my husband and I are musicians and our honeymoon was supposed to be spent enjoying Tennessee and where else not too far away time permitted us to go. Instead we spent our money on reparing our bathroom and recording studio in the basement of our appartment (Copenhagen) after the storm in 2010 turned it into a swimmingpool. Luckily we had friends over that afternoon who helped saving most of our equipment😱😒 Some day we will get there though!🤞🏼🙂
@@TravelinYoung And the Cocio should be cold, even thouhg some take it hot. Ice cocio is the perfect companion to any kind of sausages from a "pølsevogn" :-)
I thought it was really weird until you said Cocio... Because of course! That makes sense (to a Dane, anyway). But hot chocolate with a hotdog? Never. (And a French hotdog is just not the real Danish Experience.)
I studied in NC and tried to get to Nashville but could find no buslines so I ended up hitchhiking and ended up giving up halfway and took the Apalachian trail. Was definitely different infrastructure.
Good to revisit you guys - I don't watch TV, but this is enjoyable - glad you took up the beer tasting idea, too bad you didn't get hold of a Krenkerup beer - look for it in Irma.
If you want to try some old danish/classic food dishes, that maybe could live up too the rich and fatty dishes you guys like from back home. Then you could try Stegt flæsk med persillesovs: It`s a dish from consisting of fried pork belly and served with potatoes and a white sauce with chopped parsley. The dish is sometimes translated as 'pork strips' or 'crisp fried pork slices'. The pork belly or "breast" cut of a pig is used for stegt flæsk. There is all so BOLLER I KARRY (Meatballs in Curry): This tasty traditional Danish recipe is very popular amongst Danes of all ages. Do not be concerned if you are not a fan of spicy food. This is a very mildly spiced dish, and many Danish children happily call this their favorite food. This is not a recipe you want to miss out on.
What a funny episode, im the opposite of you guys I moved from Copenhagen to Tennessee in 2014. Not sure I agree with all your points on Denmark being that great but its an interesting channel.
From Denmark and been working the last year just outside Nashville, and still gonna be here the rest of the year. But going home to Denmark tomorrow for a break :)
2:55 Well it depends on where you are in Denmark. I used to live in Sønderjylland in a really small village, we only had like 4 busses a day going in and out of the town. So a car is also important to have, espically when u live in really small towns. Oh and you should really try out some different kinds of Grillbar, its really good food. And its a super big danish thing!
@@drdewott9154 Lolland is also a wasteland when it comes to public transportation. My mother lived in a place called Errindlev, and they had 2 busses a day.
@@The_Keeper Yikes. But at least you still have the railway that departs every 30 minutes. But yeah I'm sadly not too surprised considering the ast amount of absolutely tiny villages on Lolland.
True but I live in a town of around 250 people and we get 2 busses an hour. Whereas I'm from a city in Ohio of a little over 5,000 people and it only had a bus twice a day
Hi just stumbled upon your channel and saw you came from Tn. I spend some time working at ornl while living in Knoxville during my PhD. Great place and love the friendly people. I was watching the WC final I 2010 at a bar thinking a lot of people supported Netherlands realizing they didn’t even know there was a game they just wore ut colors🙃 I ended up renting a room in a house with some east tenneseans and they are still friends today. I will share your channel to lure them over ☺️. If not already suggested eg danish pastry or citron fromage for try it on tuesdays all y’all doing a great job 👍 cheers
Miranda here. I grew up in nearby Oak Ridge, TN! How cool that you were at UTK. And so funny about the orange 😂 If it's a Saturday, EVERYONE is sporting their neon orange UT gear. It can be a bit of an assault on the eyes. My mom was so mad that I decided to go to Middle Tennessee State University instead of UT. I was accepted but I really liked MTSU and they had a better music education program which is what I wanted to study at the time. Worked out though because I met Josh there!
@@TravelinYoung So true. Btw agree that Cades cove is beautiful and there is some great hikes. I was introduced to some great bbq there as well so if you found a place to get good brisket in DK please share :-).
For a great, unusual & interesting "try on Tuesday" experience, I highly recommend visiting the under ground museum called "Cisternerne" in Frederiksberg ("Independant" borough of Copenhagen). They are sadly closed due to Covid- restrictions, but will be open to the public again when possible.
There must be some miscommunication going on here. I don't know what the original suggestion was but yes you can enjoy a hot chocolate (or preferably a cold Cocio) together with a french hot dog but you don't literally mix it in your mouth! Ha ha
I think Joshua should try makrel i tomat on top of rye bread with a streak of mayo on top 🙂 Another food to try is sylte on rye bread with raw onion rings on top, some like to put a bit of mustard on top too. And then there's cold or warm sliced frikadelle on top of rye bread with remoulade on top 👍👍 Thanks for another great video 🙂

Try some old time fastfood classic`s, you most try RIBBENSANDWICH (Pork Roast Sandwich) or a 1/2 chicken with frenchfries and last but not least Bøfsandwich: It`s the classic Danish take on a hamburger. It contains the hamburger elements of a cooked ground beef patty placed inside a sliced bread roll. The traditional condiments are ketchup, mustard, remoulade, sliced dill pickles, raw onions, and crisp fried onions, but now you get it with brown sauce as well.
Very exiting when you Are telling us about your life in America. Where I come from in northern Jutland, we have two teams from Frederikshavn and Aalborg in the ice hockey league. I grew up going hunting with my father and meet up with other hunters. Alot still hunts in Denmark, perhaps more if you live in the country side. Are we going to listen to you performing some American songs? 😊
A french hotdog is not a "real" hotdog. Next time - ask for "Ristet hotdog med hele molevitten" - Hot chocolate is ok - but only if it came from a Cocio bottle :o))))
If you think the Graceland Randers contains a replica of Elvis' home, then you are horribly wrong. It is basically a restaurant and a souvenir shop. Plus an exhibition in the basement of "tingeltangel" in glass showcases. Post about Elvis' life and work written in dramatic present tence in (slightly) unhelpful peasant Danish. And a big red car. On a scale of 1 to 10, Graceland Randers lands on 2. It's almost worth sacrificing a ticket for DKK 100 to see why ... (we thought: Lene and I) . .
Henning Stærk (big in the 80's and 90's) did go to Nashville to record at least one of he's records. You have to try - Ristet hotdog "med det hele" (the right danish hotdog) - Fiskefilet med remoulade (fish filet with remoulade - should be fresh cooked) - Leverpostej (danish lever pate - should be served warm) - Hvidtøl (sweet beer with almost no alcohol) - Gajol flakse (swtrong alcohol with strong licorice taste) - Frøsnapper (danish pastery that tastes good)
Yeah it is not easy to find good Brunsviger in Copenhagen, Q8 gas stations has the best for some bizarre reason. My best advice is to look for some where the topping looks creamy. The baker in Stige, a suburb of northern Odense, won an best one for their brunsviger i a regional newspaper in 2015 and 2019. so they are a good choice.

Hi there, great vid, I always enjoy them. And may I say welcome to the world outside US where football means football and American football is a small regional sport 😉
Football is indeed the real sport where you hit the ball with your foot :D We're huge football fans and have been to tons of matches. We had half season tickets for DC United when we lived in DC.
Hey Guys. If you like Mexican food i can recommend Que Pasa in Vanløse some few kilometres outside of CPH city centre. The owner Jon is from Colorado and make great food. His starter is queso dip with 2 mini tortillas. Love it :)
Great videos - fun to see and hear about danes from a american family ! If you visit Sønderborg try the local dish “Kong Fiddes Livret” its a strange mix but so good, also try “solæg” it goes well with “Snaps” we eat it as a starter at easter and “julefrokost” ( in the old days it was served at the local pubs ). You need to try “Frikadeller med kold kartoffelsalat” it's amazing especially in the summer time. There is also “Grønlangkål” many eat it at New Year eve, (it’s a dish with ham, sugar potatoes, cabbage sausages)
Hey, just found your channel and really enjoy it, super "hyggelig" :) One suggestion though, when you talk about thing (especially geografic) it could be nice if you could at a picture of it for some time so i dont have to pause the video to google Tennessee :)
My favorite part of Tennessee is eastern Tennessee (east of Knoxville) mostly because it's much like my favorite part of USA, which is western North Carolina. And also because I'm interested in the Cherokees, so I visited a lot of old Cherokee locations around Vonore and elsewhere. And eastern Tennessee is definitely a lot different from Denmark. 😁
Miranda here. I grew up in Oak Ridge which is just west of Knoxville so east Tennessee is my favorite part too! I loved visiting Cherokee, NC and heading over to Asheville. That whole area of the Appalachians is just so beautiful. Cades Cove is one of my favorite places on Earth :)
@@TravelinYoung I agree! Cades Cove is great as all part of Great Smoky Mountains NP. I have visited Cherokee about 10 times and I love to come back, but my favorite part of western North Carolina is the area around Caldwell, Wilkes and Iredell Counties, and I've made a lot of friends in that area. I actually written a book about WNC: Land of Friendliness and Beauty - a Danes Guide to Western North Carolina. 😁
This is not typically Danish. But you should try taste the icecream at the place called Ismageriet in Søborg. It is so so good. They have a lot of flavours and make new ones all the time.
Back in 99 i visited a bunch of people in the US i had met online on text based role playing games. I have some of the best memories from Tennessee. Stayed with a couple living in a trailer park in Clarksville, and saw a lot of fort Campbell where the husbond was stationed. I had never seen anything like that army base, it was almost its own country. The population in the trailer park were very mixed, but all very nice people. I taught a lot of them to drink vodka with tyrkisk peber 🤣
Hi Youngs, enjoy your channel. May I suggest you try "Rygeost"? It litterally means "smoked cheese" and is supposed to be the only original Danish cheese. My Grandma used to make them herself but you can get them in most well assorted supermarkets or cheese shops. Usually you can get both a low fat (1%) or a fat ((10%). They are both ok if you like smoked cheese, but frankly the fat is best. What is most important however is that is has to be very fresh, preferably a couple of weeks before the "use before" date. Can be used in salads but I especially like it on a slice of fresh bread (what ever bread you like) with butter and salt and pepper and perhaps some chives on top. In the summer I often mix it with creme fraise and slices of radish, cucumber and chives. Goes down perfectly with a beer or a glass of white wine. Usually people hate or love smoked cheese, and if you don't like it just drink more beer/wine :-)
Hey guys. Secret little tip for ya: Go to any supermarked and buy a bag of "Gifler". Cinnamon or vanilla. Go home, and warm them in an oven. About 5 minutes. Goes well with coffee or tea
Hi :) I'm a Danish woman at 61, and i do live in the Northern part of Denmark. I play Minecraft, and i do follow a lot of youtubers who play that game too. My favorite youtuber is Joe Hills, who is from Nashville Tennesee, and he is a member of Hermitcraft. Joe Hills and his brother Sean Hills has made a lot of songs, which can be found on every platform on the internet... also on RUclips. Joe Hills do tell some informations about Nashville in his videos and live streams (on Twitch and RUclips). So i do know that Nashville has a copi of The Parthenon. and of cause that Elvis did live there. :) You should visit "Den gamle by" in Aarhus (The old city). And when this pandemic is over, we hope that "Tall Ship Race" in Aalborg will return again. :)
Murfreesboro --> y'all went to MTSU? Asking because I spent time in grad school over at UTK! :) Thanks for all the content -- my wife and I are very serious about moving our lives to Denmark, and this has provided good insight while we wait for the borders to open for travelling to visit.
We are indeed Blue Raiders! I was accepted to UTK (I grew up in Oak Ridge) but I liked MTSU's music program better and I was majoring in music at the time. My mom and brother are both Vols though! - M
Hi guys, I was born and raised in Nashville and am thinking about moving to Copenhagen for work. Interested in hearing about cultural barriers there and your personal experience comparing the people there to here.
For next "try on Tuesday" you could make real homemade Brændende Kærlighed (burning love) which is just fried bacon and onions with mashed potatoes if you haven't had it already. I'm sure you can find a recipe online.
Hello Family Young! Next time you go to Ærø you should take a trip to Marstal and see the beach houses there, and go to the cafe and order "Løwtenpandekager" with gooseberries or syrup!
Well, we obviously need more guitar performance videos after this. And singing! Is it obligatory to know how to play acoustic guitar if you live in Nashville? :)
@@MK-vh9wz Not a lun cocio.. I don't know how we got to that point.. the Cocio of course has to be just lun enough that it can be emptied in a second, but not lun as in 15 degrees celcius, or am I totally not Danish? Jeg er nordjyde - så derfor spørger jeg :D ;) When is something warm as opposed to lun? Within the 10 - 15 degrees celcius range? Just asking generally if anyone wants to chime in. Ingen hate herfra :)
What better way to start off the day with than with you guys! As Christ Stapleton sings; "You're as smooth as Tennesee whiskey" Also that combo is not proper one with hot chocolate and hotdogs. You have to go to a real hot dog stand, not a "kiosk" like the one's you were at, then order a COLD Cocio chocolate milk and a real dog! Edit 2: Also fun fact about Memphis got a rap style / rap genre specific to the area.
The Taco Shop*2 on Østerbrogade, makes somewhat decent "super-burritos" (Super=extra everything - choose that!) and nachos with homemade salsa and guacamole.. Back in the 1990´s a Texan called Joe started up the Taco Shops in Copenhagen (I thinks there's 3 spread around town now) BUT.. He went back to Texas and even though they try to use his recipes still, its only "Not bad, I guess OK" compared to Joe´s mouthwatering servings :) But, better than nothing when craving Mexi-food imo. ;) I would love to visit Tennessee.. Actually I wish I could afford to take a year off and just travel the states, since its so big and there's sooo much to see. But most likely I´m gonna start with a long weekend in N.Y.C to go electronics/photo/guitar-shopping and hope I don't get caught by the Danish Toll, when I fly home :D
fly from hamburg instead of CPH, and if you buy a geetar, make it look old, and the hard-top case w a couple of dings and dirt. that's how I got my D28 through.
You should try “sommersalat” which is a smoked cheese (rygeost) based spread or topping for smørrebrød. Its really good with smoked salmon or potato… I also snack on it as a dip with “stegt flæsk”, but maybe thats just me 🤷🏻♀️ preferably get it from a deli (Meny in Hørsholm has the best one)!
Can you make an episode/video about cars? Like us vs eu cars, prices, gas stations, recommendations, what you drive, do you expect to buy your daughter a car, parking etc etc
There is a big difference between the "French hotdog" + a cup of random cocoa milk substitute you got and the real thing. It's like the difference between buying a frozen pizza from the supermaket and going to an Italian restaurant. I recommend you try again :)
If you want to try some of the best pizza in København you should go try either "MOTHER" in Kødbyen og "BÆST" at I believe Nørrebro. Both are very affordable relative to Copenhagen dining. Also you can get really good soft tacos in Kødbyen aswell.
Can you try to describe what it will be like for a Dane to visit the area around Broadway. Nashville Downtown. If you are into live music, this is the city ... Try a piece of Danish French bread with old cheese, perhaps with honey or jam on top. It is something you have to learn to eat as a child ..
Broadway in Nashville is one of those places where something is always going on. Every bar has a different singer in it trying to make it. There are lots more tourists these days so if you don't like crowds it can sometimes be a bit overwhelming. It's not nearly as bad as Vegas or New York though!
@@TravelinYoung I have been to Nashville and visited the area on a weekday evening so cozy and on a weekend where there were too many people Continue the good work on your channel maybe in the future that you can review What music you can watch in Danish places or in Tønder The festival. You should try Herrings. Herrings are prepared in a lot of different ways. You can buy it in any food shop. Herrings are very traditional food in Denmark. Put it on black bread and eat it with hard boiled eggs and tomatoes and don´t forget a snaps and a cold beer. Herrings are always the starter at our Christmas lunches held on 25. decemer an 26. december with our families.

i think you need to go to Randers to see "memphis Mansion" and get a tour in the Elvis museum in a replica of Graceland, and get a good burger in their restaurant
Hi guys :-) love watcjing your videos, and also that you dare trying so,e of our foods and culture, if you are into desserts, I suggest you try this : - jordbærgrød med fløde (strawberry porridge with cream) or - æblekage med flødeskum (apple pie with whipped cream) Try it on a Tuesday. the taste uf my childhood at my granny! Keep up the spirit and good videos :-D
French Hotdog and hot chocolate, urhf! very unfortunate combo, traumatizing just to look at (hehe). As mentioned by several others in here, it MUST be the open Hotdog (Danish / American style) and the chocolate milk MUST also be of the brand COCIO, hot or cold are then individual preferences. Personally, I am not much for mixing these exquisite delicacies myself, but enjoy them to the fullest individually. Too bad the person who introduced you to this sausage cart "tradition" did not perform the introduction live ... I myself am a musician (guitarist) so of course I love to hear about everything that has to do with music and Nashville is almost a mecca. I dream of going to Nashville, Tennessee for the gala National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM)
My wife and I visited the US back in '05 for two months and drove all the way around the country. Memphis was one of the friendliest cities we visited, but everywhere we went we were greeted by friendly and very open people. We love Americans. You may be loud and obnoxious, but you're also super friendly and hospitable. :)
I agree. I have been to quite a few US states and have never, ever met an inhospitable US American (possibly because I am a white Nordic citizen?). Friendly, open, hospitable is what covers it - but superficial and willing to take advantage popped up on rare occasions. However, the 'honest and friendly' outnumbered the crooks at least 1000 to 1 - or more. It is only when you view the US from afar and consider the crazy politics that one realizes that their leaders are [insert derogatory term of your choice]. Even worse is the fact that they ELECTED the creeps to run their country! Go figure!
No they are quite different. Even the meat is quite different as hot dogs in the US are processed differently so they have a very different texture. This just gave me an idea though! Perhaps we can do a Chicago Dog vs. a Ristet Hotdog show down one day with some of our Danish friends. Chicago hotdogs also have very specific ingredients though I'm not sure we can get the neon green pickle relish here :D
Unfortunately I did not try to get a hotdog while I was in the US, but from the tourist videos that I have seen, with Americans trying our Danish hotdogs - the Danish hotdogs seems to win over most of the Americans who try them - that would be indicating they are not alike😉 (some of the people in the videos also explain how they consider the Danish hotdogs different from the American ones). Of course which is best is up to each persons taste and preference and as most of us know - when you are on vacation and in another country things often taste different than if you get some of that stuff home and try it there, so often it is the atmosphere around you that add to the enjoyment. Phil Rosenthal from 'Somebody Feed Phil', did however say this in Season 2, Episode 4 (Copenhagen): "I'm not kidding, just any hotdog from any cart, is going to be one of the best hotdogs you've ever had." - he also liked a chocolate milk to wash down his hotdog.
@@TravelinYoung A year ago -- or something -- they had the green pickle relish in meny, and I bought it. I was disappointed, it just isn't the same when you are not on a street corner in the Windy City. But my (adult) kids ate it up.
@@TravelinYoung problem with doing a comparison is getting some of the ingredients for example with the Chicago finding the poppy seed bun, or celery seed salt, or the pickled pepper. Or with a Cincinnati style chili dog will have to do the seasoning bleng and the chili from scratch and the "cheddar" is not here. Though you can probably get everything for a KC dog
2:30 The missing public transportation in Tennessee is not because of the fact that everything is so spread out. The cause is something else. Example: Finland is more than 3 times bigger than Tennessee, have a bit lower population count - but excellent public transport. Same argument goes for your explanation of missing public transport in cities. My personal guess: Culture and politics. A well functioning public transportation network can, for some politicians, smell too much of a nanny state or socialism.
i think you need too look into if you can get a "Bridgewalking Lillebælt" in Denmark and then you can keep going west to "Hvide Sande" and get a "klipfisk" as some food ... and remenber you dont get real "klipfisk" in copenhaven .... the not made of the sameway..
Hot chocolate? no no no, your suppose to wash it down with a Cocio (cold/handwarm). Hotdog+Cocio is THE Danish thing to do. (that hotdog be French or regular, dont matter.) on a complete side note, your comment on how Mid Tennessee is similar to parts of Denmark, I (a dane) spend some time in Florida, and parts of the eastern coast actually reminded me of the Danish west coast, apart from the temperature.
It was the wrong hotdog and the wrong chocolate milk. The one that we as Danes recommend is a ristet hotdog with ketchup, mustard, remoulade, onions and cucumber together with a cocio chocolate milk. You should also try to find a place where you can get traditional Danish food like Stegt flæsk med persille sovs og kartofler. Or Flæskesteg med hvide og brunede kartofler med brun sovs. It’s absolutely not NOMA but it is truly Danish.
You should try smoked (røget) eel (ål) on rybread (rugbrød) with scrambled egg (røræg) mostly because I heard an American say: "what - are you eating snake?!?".
dont forget a glass of x-mas aquavit (47,5 % alcohol, yes the danish version of "white lightning"). and for the american, a good jambalaya needs ½ diamondback rattler in it!
first of all, I love your videos. is it fairly true that american food tends to have to have some kind of sweet taste instead of omami taste. secondly i am a big fan of american cars (anything under 8 cylinders is a go-kart) what is your opinion on european cars vs american cars?

If memory serves me right, Sanne Salmonsen (Danish Rock Mama) recorded an album “Where Blue Begins” in Memphis, Tennessee, released in Denmark in 1991.
You guys should try "stegt flæsk og persillesovs" at guldgrillen in copenhagen
I can't tell you how glad I am that your RUclips channel popped up in my sugestions today 😀
As a Dane it is so interesting to hear about your experiences with comming here, and it really gives some helpful insights on how newcommers view daily life here, and how one can help make people who come to the country feel more welcome and included😉
P.S I really like your “Try On Tuesday” series, and can’t wait to see what you are going to try next.
Haha, we are so glad you found us! And thanks for the suggestion, we are excited to try new things and this seemed like a fun way to do it!
Sorry guys that’s not a hotdog. That’s a “Frenchdog”
Bliver det ikke kaldt fransk hotdog i Danmark ?
@@JSJ1978 jo
Technically it's still a hotdog.
Yes it is still a hotdog but not a traditionally danish hotdog
And not one traditionally eaten with a bottle og Cocio (a drink more similar to Cocoa flavoured milk than hot chocolate)
Oh no no :) you need to go to a real "pølsevogn" and buy a cocio and a "ristet" hotdog.
Ha I knew I would do it wrong! I love ristet hotdogs though so I am willing to take one for the team and try again :)
@@TravelinYoung Haha I like that you knew you would do it wrong 😂
@@TravelinYoung And the Cocio should be cold, even thouhg some take it hot. Ice cocio is the perfect companion to any kind of sausages from a "pølsevogn" :-)
I thought it was really weird until you said Cocio... Because of course! That makes sense (to a Dane, anyway). But hot chocolate with a hotdog? Never.
(And a French hotdog is just not the real Danish Experience.)
Yee.. a real roasted hotdog and a cold cocio.. thats some of the best.. Im craving it right now just thinking about it..
Yeah the regions west of Storebælt are so much more car dependent than those east of it. Partly due to density, partly due to local politics.
@@drdewott9154 Lolland is also a wasteland when it comes to public transportation.

Ha ha

I think Joshua should try makrel i tomat on top of rye bread with a streak of mayo on top 🙂
Another food to try is sylte on rye bread with raw onion rings on top, some like to put a bit of mustard on top too.
And then there's cold or warm sliced frikadelle on top of rye bread with remoulade on top 👍👍

Try some old time fastfood classic`s, you most try RIBBENSANDWICH
(Pork Roast Sandwich) or a 1/2 chicken with frenchfries and last but not least Bøfsandwich: It`s the classic Danish take on a hamburger. It contains the hamburger elements of a cooked ground beef patty placed inside a sliced bread roll. The traditional condiments are ketchup, mustard, remoulade, sliced dill pickles, raw onions, and crisp fried onions, but now you get it with brown sauce as well.
You just made me want to visit Tennessee, thanks!

Dollywood/Tennessee ah, got it!
I love Dolly Parton, sounds very nice on turntable. (they never really play Dolly on the danish radio)
A french hotdog is not a "real" hotdog. Next time - ask for "Ristet hotdog med hele molevitten" - Hot chocolate is ok - but only if it came from a Cocio bottle :o))))

When you say Tennessee i have to mention that Denmark has the largest Elvis Presley memorabilia collection outside USA, even a copy of Graceland :)

You have to try
- Ristet hotdog "med det hele" (the right danish hotdog)
- Fiskefilet med remoulade (fish filet with remoulade - should be fresh cooked)
- Leverpostej (danish lever pate - should be served warm)
- Hvidtøl (sweet beer with almost no alcohol)
- Gajol flakse (swtrong alcohol with strong licorice taste)
- Frøsnapper (danish pastery that tastes good)
The warm leverposted should have fried bacon and fried mushrooms as a topping. (frying the mushrooms in the bacon fat makes them super delicious.)
Try fresh rygeost with radiser. Next time you go to funen. And real funish brunsviger upside down on well buttered rundstykke.
Du kan skam nemt finde rygeost uden for Fyn, jeg er selv fynbo bosat i Jylland og jeg kan købe rygeost i Føtex, Lidl osv 🙂
Yeah it is not easy to find good Brunsviger in Copenhagen, Q8 gas stations has the best for some bizarre reason.
My best advice is to look for some where the topping looks creamy.

Ooh! That looks really good. I love cheese so we will try to find some. Thanks!
Hey guys. Secret little tip for ya: Go to any supermarked and buy a bag of "Gifler". Cinnamon or vanilla. Go home, and warm them in an oven. About 5 minutes. Goes well with coffee or tea

Broadway in Nashville is one of those places where something is always going on. Every bar has a different singer in it trying to make it. There are lots more tourists these days so if you don't like crowds it can sometimes be a bit overwhelming. It's not nearly as bad as Vegas or New York though!

If you haven't tried it yet one of the things that many Danes eat for breakfast is a roll with butter, cheese and jam on it.

Are the hotdogs in Denmark like American hotdogs?
No they are quite different. Even the meat is quite different as hot dogs in the US are processed differently so they have a very different texture. This just gave me an idea though! Perhaps we can do a Chicago Dog vs. a Ristet Hotdog show down one day with some of our Danish friends. Chicago hotdogs also have very specific ingredients though I'm not sure we can get the neon green pickle relish here :D
@@TravelinYoung I'm here for it!
When corona allows it, you should visit refshaleøen! 😊👍 Lots of food stands/trucks. Very amazing atmosphere.
They also have other, uhm "attractions", that strangely make the food stands more popular. 😜
We love Reffen! We try to get out there when we can. There is a place there that has the most amazing mussels.
Badminton is also a big sport in Denmark
Yes, we've had, and still have, some of the best players in the world! Check out Viktor Axelsen
Thx for the video
Hot chocolate? no no no, your suppose to wash it down with a Cocio (cold/handwarm). Hotdog+Cocio is THE Danish thing to do. (that hotdog be French or regular, dont matter.)
on a complete side note, your comment on how Mid Tennessee is similar to parts of Denmark, I (a dane) spend some time in Florida, and parts of the eastern coast actually reminded me of the Danish west coast, apart from the temperature.
You should watch Geography now's video on Denmark. It gives a good short overview :)
It was the wrong hotdog and the wrong chocolate milk. The one that we as Danes recommend is a ristet
hotdog with ketchup, mustard, remoulade, onions and cucumber together with a cocio chocolate milk.
You should also try to find a place where you can get traditional Danish food like Stegt flæsk med persille sovs og kartofler.
Or Flæskesteg med hvide og brunede kartofler med brun sovs.
It’s absolutely not NOMA but it is truly Danish.
Like a lot other have commented. you have to go to a real hotdog stand/van and get a warm Cocio and a Grilled Hotdog with everything.
Have you tried axe-throwing yet?
(It's a thing here...)
Added to the list!
"If you ever want to go to the Jack Daniels destillery ... " Heck yeah, when does the bus leave?
I embrace this way of thinking :).
You gotta drive your own car to Lynchburg
first of all, I love your videos.
is it fairly true that american food tends to have to have some kind of sweet taste instead of omami taste.
secondly i am a big fan of american cars (anything under 8 cylinders is a go-kart) what is your opinion on european cars vs american cars?
Thanks! We are thinking about doing a video on the subject of cars pretty soon. We are a couple months away from needing to replace our lease, so seemed like good timing. Stay tuned :).
