Actually, spices especially the herb ones are good. Ones like curry, thyme, tumeric, rosemary, bayleave,nutmeg and all plant related ones are all good for the body and health... Use the right spices not the chemically formulated ones (flavours)

It depends on the amount of Stew you are making. But 4-5 should be fine.
