The left 4 dead type 5 clip is honestly terrifying because the fact that a zombie, a completely brain dead creature that doesn’t even act on instinct, runs in fear from something and doesn’t even stop to eat a helpless and defenseless prey is truly unnerving
When a creature that acts only on instinct doesn’t follow it, you should be scared.
even scarier, you could see that it was not just one zombie, but an ENTIRE HORDE of zombies running from whatever the thing is. now, anything that could make a large group of mindless individuals who normally just shamble around aimlessly act with that much speed and purpose has to hold an EXTREME amount of authority within the game.
when the virus controlling you doesnt act on instinct and says "to get tf outta there" is scarier when it probably seen what you havent seen

Not gonna lie, spookcoast was so fucking cool. The jumpscare and the animated looking flailing compared to the realistic movement is so cool to me.
I had to double check but on spooky coast (25:55) right before the umbrella civ guy lunges at the camera the npc we're seeing through has his right hand broken.
yeah! like he’s slowly ragdolling.
The "Are you trapped" bit gives me fucking chills. The way I view it, we get two answers, one from the umbrella men and one from a DMNPC. The DMNPC, trapped vying to get to the yes to prove to something or someone out there that it exists and to try and get it to hear its plea. The umbrella man seems to answer by taunting the viewer, clipping the skybox and going to another map, showing that not only is it not trapped in the walls of the map that Eida built but not even to the map itself as a way of showing that its powers and abilities go well beyond what we thought was possible not just by the umbrella men but by the engine itself. It takes a special talent to have an ARG extend to a legit livestream without breaking kayfabe one way or another.
If I recall correctly, there was no real interaction with the livestream, so it was basically a very long prerecorded video.

It's worth noting that even singleplayer source games have very very rudimentary multiplayer capability. This includes Portal 1. It's quite possible - hypothetically - to force any Source Engine game to connect to a server being ran by the same game, even if it's supposed to be singleplayer.
We once did that with Portal. It wasn't this weird, but definitely caused many annoying crashes and glitching dialogues
Hm... yeah, you're right - totally slipped my mind that singleplayer Source games, just like "Minecraft" or "S.T.A.L.K.E.R", create a localhosted server instance for the singleplayer campaign...
Fun fact: a small bit ago Valve actually made portal 1 multiplayer work *better* than before, if i remember correctly!

Sadly I think it's mentioned somewhere that the command doesn't work with gmod for some reason. At least not modern gmod. So maybe old versions?
@@AHandele3546 Actually, that's a good point. What about modified SE games, like Titanfall 2 or Apex Legends? What about Source 2? What about games BASED on Source engine titles? There's a lot they can explore.
Here's what I think could be the results of each test:
Postal 3: For a generative AI, Postal 3 is, somehow, one of the BEST for them to use, with positive and negative reinforcement states. A lot of demos would probably play with that, potentially reaching a climax with a full game run with either ending.
Titanfall 2: Demos featuring more mobile DNPCs, with hands and stuff, operating titans and other machinery. Probably would have a DNPC try to fight an umbrella man with the Titan, only for him to phase through it.
Apex: similar to the TF2 gameplay, probably a lot of crashers present.
HLA: Probably the climax or ending of the series, if its ever used. Probably going to reveal a twist about what how the DNPCs actually operate in tests, probably relating to HLA's VR.
TheWhatShow: makes an hour and half long video completely breaking down the entire arg
Anomidae: I'm gonna do what's called a pro gamer move
Shame the ARG has gone completely off track and that it lost all it's appeal.

Kind of a stretch, but I wonder then if this indicates that the DNPC tech has been in development since long before Source. According to John Carmack, lead developer for the Quake engine, there are still bits of early Quake code in HL2.

1:02:25 Not sure if someone has pointed it out yet, but going with the whole “Eida and Mona were two different people” theory, it’s actually more likely that “Jan” is Eida. Considering his accent, the fact he’d likely have easier access to Fsky with actual geographic relativity, and the fact that “Jan” is actually supposed to be pronounced “Yan” (since it’s dutch, plus it’s masculine), It feels a little more accurate.
My memory is kinda shit but is Eida's location even confirmed? Because if not, I want to point out Jan is also a Fairly common name in Norway, which makes sense with Fsky as well

my theory is that umbrella man are the "employers" that G man mentions
The scariest thing in this video was him saying "council" instead of console.
I’ve honestly never heard anyone pronounce “Console” like “Council”, I personally pronounce it as “khan-soul”
It's "Kohn-sole" you plebean 😂
@@engineerskalinera You slob, you Bobolyne, it is pronounced 'Con-Sole'

Jerma is the interloper
it's the kind of project I'd love to see a making of series.
The amount of wotk is insane
i love video like these where they talk about arg (which i am VERY VERY scared of) but once in a while adds some goofy unrelated jokes to make me still want to watch for more
I loved the part where the umbrella men said “It’s interlopin time” and then interloped all over the dynamic npcs.
"what do you mean he doesnt say it in the video?"
@@darrylthewolf6568 what? of course he did did you even watch the video?!?!?!?

Truly one of the ARGs of all time.
Interloper has been my favorite Source ‘ARG’ ever since it came out, awesome to see you cover it!
34:18 This man is already insane he just doesn't know it yet
The Interloper ARG has been one of my favorites. It's not like those ARGs where you need to look every pixel of a video to figure something out. The Interloper ARG can be interacted physically (Like the CS Source and TF2 demo) and how it involves A.I learning the game then gets targeted by the Interloper if it gets too self-aware.
The Left 4 Dead demo is so underrated. The witch music kicking in gave me chills
using hammer edidtor in a arg is something i dont think has ever been done before. and thats really cool
i made 2 mistakes and had to press edit twice
I can't help but feel that the conversation about "checking in a year or two to make sure it's gone", is about The Mona, and Anomidae is gonna end up finding it somehow later in the series.
Something really terrifying I noticed was when I tried the interloper, a graffiti appeared. It wasn't the man in full black. Just a normal one. But when I came back to the game launching it once again, it wasn't there. That thing literally scared the ever-living hell out of me. It also freaks up your game; for example removing the G-Man TV appearance.
where did the graffiti appear?
Maybe in follow freeman or anticitizen one, since the section with the generators and Barney has a whiteface umbrella man decal
