LG Velvet Review: One Thing Wrong [4K]

- - Velvet is a very odd phone. It's a pretty good package with solid build. Good screen, sharp camera, dual stereo speakers, and battery enough for the entire day. Pretty common choice of specs, too. Snapdragon 765, 48MP camera, 8GB RAM, 128GB storage, and 4300mAh battery.
But here's the catch. That's only the case for $450-$500 devices.
This midranger sells for a flagship price of $750 but just why? It's not like LG doesn't know what a flagship looks like. They've just built the V60 ThinQ!
So I have a theory. The engineers were building a good midranger for the $500 goal, but suddenly the management decided they want to sell it for $750. So they sprinkle a few premium features like the stereo speakers and wireless charging.
Is it a good phone? Yes. Should you buy it? No, not for that price.
Many consider the phone as flagship lacking too many features, but I think it's more like a good midrange phone with one wrong thing, the price tag.

Get a plastic one, may not prevent drops but deals with scratches and stays on. The phone does have gorilla Glass 5

Good review. In Korea, at least, there were some good deals for preorders through Coupang - got 200,000 off the list price of KRW 890,000, so that comes to be about $570. Then LG also threw in an LG Puricare Mini, which retails around KRW 200,000. So I was quite happy with that (plus I was upgrading after three years of my G6, so I'm perfectly content with my "G9" 😅)

I think LG just made a museum phone
in settings you can mess with the euqalizer, at 9:33 you can see it and just mess with it till the sound is to your liking and there is other pre-loaded options for you to try.

You can't properly review a phone without showing your face, because you can't properly test a selfie cam or portrait mode. He should at least get someone with a face to help him out.

I don't know if I bought a faulty device. I bought the t-mobile variant. However, the battery isn't as good as I thought. It looses 5 percent of battery with sparse browsing within an hour. And that's with extended battery saver on, and brightness set to 12%. Is this normal battery drainage for the phone? Did anyone notice this when theirs was new?
Well done review. As I said, this is an htc move from LG. One to U, G to Velvet. Only LG knows why. My G7 stays, after 2y it's better phone in simply every area. V line isn't available in my country, LG doesn't release it here.
Have you gotten the A10 updated on your G7?
@@sobanali9953 not yet in Europe, LG gives us updates in the end. Korea first, USA next than the rest. No wonder LG is doing horribly in Europe. Now with Velvet, almost certainly even worse.
@@gogigp in the US some carriers have given the A10 update you can also update manually to Korean which has many features not available in global release., guide is available on LG G7 forum in reddit. velvet is a disgrace even to G series, with bad camera and 8 MP ultra wide angle which is utterly useless. A thing LG pioneered. They should just make a phone with V30 body but new internals and better cameras or like G4 beautiful leather and curve.

The notch is a deal breaker for me but I do love LG smartphones. All my Android devices since day one were LG's. Watching this video on an LG Stylo 5X.

Can some advise me? My G4 is almost 5 years old now and looking to upgrade. Should I choose the G8, V60, K61 or wait for the Velvet? Camera and longevity are most important to me. Any thoughts?

Great information, but speaking a bit slower would be helpful.
I had to replace this phone twice and return both of them. this phone has big problem with wifi. you just start face time and it will get hot around the front facing camera less than 10 minutes and drop out the wifi and won't let you connect until it cools off or restart. it will use your cell data. I disable switching to cell data from wifi if wifi no good. but it will never make difference. Anyone else has the same issue?
I think they used very very crappy cheap moden cheapest in this phone.

to me it looks like a very solid package but because of that price I would just go for a bit more expensive LG V60 which is a full beast besides the lack of high refresh rate which is not that important either way
If youve got the money then of course but i think the velvet is more a competitor to the a71 5g which it beats out in every single way except camera software. And i think it was a smart decision to put it in between the bland and cheaply built plastic a71 5g and the bathroom tile lookin unimpressive specs havin ass google pixel 5, in terms of price. All 3 phones gave the same cpu yet for some stupid fuckin reason all these reviewer are loving the google pixel 5 and ignoring the 765g in it but lg puts it in a cheaper nicer looking phone and theyre all like "underpowered cpu for the price, so many better deals out there"
@@subject204ghost3 yeah, I agree and from what I have seen the cameras of the Velvet are legit, but to me the compact size of the Pixel 5 is awesome even though LG Velvet just offers more stuff
@@LetsBringThePain honestly if lg just spent even a little bit more time refining the software and post processing of images then the main camera would be great. But even then the pixel 5s photos will still be on a completely different level.

I just ordered this phone bc it has bluetooth 5.1 and has 5g. Just a few minutes after ordering I saw people complain about the sound. Damn I hope its not that bad or I will return it. My Huawei P20 pro has Dolby Atmos and it's great.

@@hxsm8090 I returned it after checking it for 10 minutes lol. Display colors are not accurate at all and the sound is bad like I've read in the reviews. I went for a Samsung S21 Ultra instead which ofc is much more expensive but worth it for the next 5 years.

3D sound engine u say it doesnt help the sound engine at all. Another reviewer i listen to says it improves the sound engine alot. So who are we suppose to listen to then!? I feel reviewers into phones still need to work on being more specific into why or what difference there are or there isnt between having 3D engine on to having it off.!!

I've never owned a phone with a curved screen but I thought everyone liked it. Since when and why do people hate curved screens?
@@tessat1693 It's subjective. Some people appreciate the aesthetic and it does make a phone feel smaller in the hand. But, it also increases the cost of the phone, makes it more fragile and your hand accidentally touches the screen when holding it. Since phones are designed with a price in mind, i'd say the quad dac was more important to include than a curved screen.
I have the v60 my bro has the Velvet. If you adjust the EQ settings right on the Velvet the headphone sounds are really impressive. The bigger differences is actually camera and battery.
@@douglassgarvey653 I'm always disappointed by LGs pricing and features. All they need is a mid range phone with a good dac, like the audiophile version of Google pixel 4a. They keep spending money on random things instead of using their mature tech, which at this point won't cost them anything.
@@spoots1234 Honestly I was lost as well when I seen a dac would not be included into the Velvet. I just assumed LG would install the dac in all their newer mid and top tier phones. Maybe that'll change in the Velvet 2
Sadly LG killed the G9 and went with the Velvet. Maybe it's worth $100-150 over a $450 phone but probably not $300. I wish they had included a Quad DAC, then I might have considered it.

The UI really looks like ONE UI. Why LG? I loved their phone in 2017 and below because looks so special than others. I see this and I don't see any special thing anymore.
