Best quote of the podcast “I’m not pretending I’m dating a 13 year old… that’s weird”
Really the only appropriate answer though. It would be pretty sus to just go along with that hahaha.
@@amanda3920 no lol she meant pretend you are also 13 dating another 13 year old not the other way 😂
I just CACKLED out loud at Ben charming people's moms. I think I scared my dogs lol.
Coming for yung gravy 😭
That wasn’t that funny
Maybe he wrote the song Stacy's Mom! Jk🤣
I knew it was coming do to this comment, and I still laughter so loud!
Made me think of that song from Crazy Ex-Girlfriend: I Give Good Parent

Hi Cristine & Ben, I realize you may never read this but I figured I owe it to you guys to give it a shot. In last week’s episode and in a few past pods you’ve mentioned that you may not have continued recording new episodes if it weren’t for listeners posting their appreciation for this channel. I just wanted to add to those comments to say how TRULY excited I always am to wake up on Tuesdays and see the new video thumbnail each week. You each offer such insightful/reflective/witty commentary and I genuinely look forward to the release of each episode. It is immensely meaningful to have a podcast with hosts who offer complex, thoughtful perspectives on social issues/current events/culture and a variety of other topics while also bringing joy and levity to each conversation.
That being said, I hope neither of you feel obligated to record merely for the sake of your fans, and that you can instead continually find meaning and enjoyment in creating each episode. I and I’m sure many others will remain deeply grateful and completely thrilled upon the release of every episode for as long as you will continue posting.
Thank you, thank you, THANK YOU for all of your thoughts and hard work. I hope you’ll keep making podcast episodes for as long as possible in whichever format is most exciting for you both, and I’ll definitely never tire of just the two of you talking. :)
You said that so well! Yes, same, I love the podcast. All those thoughts you put so well, I second
Same here! Thank you, Thank you, Thank You. I always look forward to Tuesdays just for their podcast!
I recently lost my father this past Sunday and I had been saving podcasts for the birth of my first child this February (So I’d have something to listen too while juggling a newborn).
But I couldn’t keep away in this time of grief. Seeing someone else continuing after the loss of their father really helps me feel better.
Thank You!
Ben is definitely a blurt it out babe and Cris is our careful think it all the way through cutie, and we love it.
Cristine’s hair looks so good 🥺🫶
her head must feel so light 🙌
When did she cut it???? Totaly missed it😱
@@colourlady5125 literally same
The "Harry formerly known as Prince" ended me. I needed to pause for 5 minutes because I laughed so hard it caused a terrible coughing fit (got Covid right now).
Cristine with a “normal” length hair is almost shocking 😮😂
Oh, I thought the rest was just somewhere in that baggy hoody.
The way that her ‘normal’ length hair is longer than my hair could ever grow 😭
I didn't even notice 💀 that's really long hair to me still 😅
It looks amazing tho
Can someone explain to me.... what's the normal length for hair?
Ben being a "blurt it out babe" is the most Aries thing about him 😂
Ben was so serious / earnest with his answers, I love it
I know it was hilarious. XD
It got me then most when Cristine was like "Okay but pretend we're like 13" and Ben just was completely unable to switch there and was just "No thats weird" . Like Ben it's not that deep.
He’s just like me fr lmao I take quizzes too seriously cuz they never have a balanced/rational answer
@@caxtonpetri753 it is that deep! He’s a blurt it out babe!
@@caxtonpetri753 he just can't do it xD he didn't even take the 'pretend I'm 17' thing lmao
Cristine, thank you for mentioning heteronormativity in these magazines! Starting in about 7th grade, I began to feel isolated, broken, and confused because my friends had crushes on boys, most often popstars, and I didn't. Those teen magazines amplified my insecurities when they assumed I would or should find boy celebs attractive. I remember taking a quiz on which Jonas brother would be my best love match and thinking, 'I don't like any of them, or any boy for that matter, what's wrong with me?'. I didn't have any representation of girls who felt what I was feeling. Luckily times are changing for the better. I hope younger generations will have it easier than I did 🏳️🌈👩🏻❤️👩🏼💕😸💜
Just a pro tip for anyone reading out there:
Dairy products that are soft (milk, cream cheese, sour cream, mozzarella, etc) if you see *any* mold, do not use anything else. Due to the material, the mold spores have travelled far further than your eyes can see and nothing should be salaved. Please use this same thought process for any softer material, such a bread or fruit.
If your dairy product is a harder material (most any cheese aged over 6 months) it is possible to cut off the mold and use anything you have left. Aged cheeses are dense enough the mold is only able to penetrate so far, and the methods of preservation/aging the cheese often help to impede the mold.
But, poor Ben, my hands were covering my mouth the whole time he explained what his grandma had done.
I'm 31 and in Europe we used to have notebooks specifically dedicated to quizzing friends and classmates on different personal topics. The questions were about anything from a favourite colour and phone no. to 'who's your crush?' or 'have you ever kissed?'. Every respondee would write on one of the pages of the notebook, but also get a sneaky peak into other people's answers. Some of such notebooks would also have physical locks embedded in the hardcover and opened with a key.
Omgyes, the friendship books, I loved those so much. And you'd put a picture of yourself on the page you filled out
Omg saaame in Brazil. Ppl did a whole notebook just to actually find out their crushe's answers. Hahaha
That's very sweet
Omg I had these as a kid in Poland!! I loved them, we really took them seriously 😂
oh my god you unlocked a memory
Shoutout to that magazine for telling girls to make sure your crush isn’t treating you differently when alone vs in front of others. Where was that quiz when I was 15 😂
I've met people like that, full-grown adults and not a crush, that will say one thing to you privately and then have another completely different opinion in front of others.
And it's always so disappointing but also like, how do they get through life without everyone hating them?
for real ! I didn't have a crush but my male friends definitely played with me in my village but ignored me at school like, wtf was up with that?
Cristine looks so cute with her hairstyle 🥺💗
Ow she looks cute, but those were pain in the butt especially when you have very slippery hair
there was another podcast episode where she straightened her hair and parted it in the center as a tribute to Avril Lavigne, she looked good with that too
she’s adorable
How does she actually look 13 though?!
@@Pastadudde can you remember which podcast episode you’re talking about?
Cristine would SLAY as a redhead
This was really funny! I love the conversations between you both, always very entertaining, maybe you can look at other vintage things, like old recipes or old advice for women in magazines
She would! And it's actually trending to look like a natural redhead right now lol
Any redhead has the capacity to absolutely and utterly slay
(my heart)
i think she was a red head back in highschool/college!!
somebody fly brad mondo out to ottowa
I love how it seems Beyn took over the weird musings and tangents that Cris normally does. Also, I am cracking up at how earnest they were with the discussion of the quizzes and answers like we all did back in the day. Took me back to being a teen and doing these quizzes myself!
I feel the need to comment concerning JoJo! When she was young, she was a bit of a one hit wonder, but it sounds like it was thanks to shady record company dealings from what I recall hearing - the record company sat on some of her music and wouldn't release it & wouldn't release HER from her contract so that's why she disappeared for quite a few years. She was finally able to break out of the contract somehow, or the contract expired (I think within the last 5 years or so, can't remember how she got out.)
So anyway, she's back, and tons of her fans from when she was 12-13 have remained loyal and flocked back over. I'm not a superfan, but JoJo is a queen - she is so talented!! 👑❤️
That's what I came to say too. She got a lawyer and I believe it was regarding a New Jersey law regarding children and contracts and how it was unlawful So she was able to get out of it. Or at least That's what I remember.
I love her cover of Marvin’s Room by Drake!!
Justice for JoJo!
You guys should do the adult cosmo quizzes 💀
My understanding of co-dependency is “I’m not ok unless you’re ok”
It describes a relationship with an addict for example.
It can also present as needing to make someone happy before considering your own needs.
What if Ben was the real creator all along and Cristine is actually just a robot he built….. we will never know because Cristine does not leave the house.
😂😂 love from Australia 🇦🇺
That would explain why her favourite video game is Detroit become human 🤖
👀
I laughed so hard at Cristine’s reaction to Ben seducing people’s moms😂😂😂
Ben knowing Jojos song and not Cristine , shook me lol
Also Jojo is short for Joanna
Also she's done a few popular movies back then too
Her studio screwed her over. She had to stay locked in a contract and her studio wouldn't let her release new music. She had to find a loophole just to be able to get out of her contract and be able to record her own music. It was really devastating and hard on her. There's a really interesting documentary I believe on RUclips that she posted or did a collaboration with.
She finally has gotten out of her contract due to a legal loophole about them holding such a long contract on a minor. (She was 12 when she recorded her first album) Since then she’s released an album Good to Know and an EP trying not to think about it. Both are amazing R&B works. Her vocals have grown even more. Truly one of the most talented living vocalists alive. It’s a shame what happened.
(Seeing her on this thumbnail got me to excited as a JoJo stan)
These magazine quizzes made me have such high crazy standards for guys. Like they really made me think guys shouldn’t be talking at all to any other girls. Thankfully now I’m an adult and know that’s idiotic 😂 but I’m with you. These magazines gave me something to do at home other than watch the same cartoons all day every day lol
Me tooooo!😭🤣
I’d rather watch cartoons personally 😂
@@radgamerrach good for you?
See, I feel like that "weird-smelling dinner" question is a sign of how much times have changed-my first instinct would be to ask if they did something different, and if they said no, we're both taking COVID tests because ONE of us has lost our sense of smell 😂😂😂
I’m loving this throwback. This was a good podcast idea 😂
I don’t care if I’m a super simp, you guys make me happy lol :)
justice for JoJo! she’s got some pipes! “Joanna”…you also know “Leave (Get Out)” for sure! super talented!
I just went and binge watched a whole ton of Jojo’s music. What an incredibly talented woman. Her voice and lyricisms are so powerful and I’m mad at myself for not supporting her new music sooner. Definitely adding her music to my playlists.
Her studio screwed her over. She had to stay locked in a contract and her studio wouldn't let her release new music. She had to find a loophole just to be able to get out of her contract and be able to record her own music. It was really devastating and hard on her. New album and EP are so good. Watch her UPROXX doc on RUclips! So sad what she went through as a child star.
Menchie staring at Ben is the cutest. 😄(about 23 min in)
id love a podcast on productivity/organization, whatever shape it may take (tips, methods...)
also does cristine uses notion? thats something i feel like she would really like
OMG. This reminded me of my days reading magazines like these. There was one time in high school when I collected religious magazines where they had articles about monasteries, BUT also about crushes and teenagers problems. This last section was like a question from a reader and a nun replying. One girl was asking for advice on how to deal with bullying, she described how she was called ugly and mocked. And the nun legit replied "if a lot of people tell you you're ugly, maybe they're right." And then she went on and blamed the girl for the mean things that were said to her. Like "it's your fault that you're ugly. Why don't you do sth about it?"
It still shocks me to this day. But hey, I doubt that reader was even real (you never know with these things)
That's kinda fierce though, better than lying and saying something like "oh it's what's on the inside that matters" when what they really need is to put more effort into their appearance
💀
These podcasts make my Tuesday ❤️
Seventeen, tigerbeat and J-14 were the magazines I used to get every month, mainly for the posters and quizzes 😂 what a blast from the past
I think this was fun and entertaining! I'm a fellow mid 30s gal and grew up in the 90s and these magazines were popular. I don't think I was really ever interested in them but if my friend had one I would look at it. I think I was more intrigued in the horoscope part lol. I really hope people didn't take these seriously lol
Cristine’s hair looks so nice and healthy!!!
"Now that we are 30 mil years old" 😂😂😂 I felt that in my bones 😂😂😂😂😂
The amount of posters I had from these magazines and also doing these quizzes like it was actual advice.. yet I never really dated as a teenager lol I miss how simple things were with the teen version of tabloids. This is so ridiculous to look at now. I don't believe at all those were actual "quotes" celebrities said lol But so fun!
BEN. Why you gotta cut the fun?! I demand a part 2 with the modern versions.
These magazines & quizzes really brought me back to my teen days and I loved it!
Loved the podcast lol a true throwback, also I’m going thru a tough time and you guys always bring my spirits up, thank u ❤❤❤
I'm home sick with a stomach bug, this podcast was unadvisable for me to watch cause laughing hurts 🤣😅😅 also I was the one who found my dad's playboy stash....not my brother 🤣
Me too 😂 I brought it to school. My parents were delighted.
I was born in 98 and when I was 7-9 we used to buy magazines like this, at least in Greece. I don't remember these quizes but I do remember reading the zodiac signs and the gossip about celebrities or their "sayings"
Don’t forget the romantic love stories and the love and intercourse advice.
This is amazing and I haven’t started yet! Beyyyn! Thank you for agreeing to have more quizzes 😂😂 I love them so much 😂😂😂❤
I do not have the context for Christine's haircut but I had to do a double look once I noticed. Looks great!
Best episode so far, it’s like a warm hug. Loving the hair and headband
Cristine rocking that 90s headband! Jo Jo’s big song was leave (get out)!
Nice hat… NOT💀
“I’m just gonna blurt it out babe! Don’t wait by the phone!”
I remember these magazines! I mostly purchased them for the posters of boy bands that came with them 😆💀 this was a very funny podcast I loved it! Do more of these 90s retro baby episodes
i love this podcast so much. even when you guys do silly topics you both always have insightful thoughts and comments to put out there. you guys have a great mixture of comedy and entertainment, alongside more serious and insightful ideas.
The hair with that stretch hairband and the big bright hoop earrings...that takes me back to my high school days
Just finished watching Severance it was such a good recommendation! I always enjoy these podcasts and appreciate how both of you can have such interesting and insightful discussions about such a variety of topics :)
This was super fun!! I love that this was light hearted and good conversation
It would be so fun to see an updated version of these quizzes !! this video was already very funning so itd be entertaining to see a more modernizes versions
I was a kid in the 2000s and I loooved these quizzes!! I was subscribed to Girls Life magazines for years. I would love another episode doing these quizzes!
I actually loved this episode and I’m so happy you picked this concept on the stream over the weekend! The silly questions were light and fun and opened up a lot of good topics for discussion.
I loved this episode! Hilarious to think back and see how much of our prepubescent social life came from these quizzes
This was so funny!! You should do more quizzes like this haha
The 90s nostalgia hits hard with this podcast 💗
Here to comment cristine's hair looks sooooo pretty 😍 i loooved that she finally cut a bit! And i appreciated the commitment of styling it full 90s to be on theme with that week's episode 🤣❤👌🏼 will miss them these upcoming weeks but if anyone deserves to take a break it's these two!!!! Love you guys
That was lighthearted and fun! I used to buy the magazines for the posters. I had my bedroom walls covered with them! Don't remember the quizzes so much.
I NEED an episode of you both doing modern quizzes 😂 I also think it’d be fun to mix in a few buzzfeed quizzes and contrast how they compare to both the 90s magazine quizzes and the modern magazine quizzes
This episode was so fun! I was laughing all throughout the video, thanks guys
lmao cristine trying to take the quizzes from the perspective of a 90s teen whereas ben wanting it to be as their current day selves
This was hilarious and light. Loved it and would want more
the dancing question. i dont care if you're a good or a bad dancer, its all about your willingness to dance. i grew up going to a lot of family parties and dancing. i wouldnt be with someone that felt forced to dance. its fun if we both enjoy it :D
Oh, the nostalgia! Only thing that would have made it better is whipping out that origami thing we all used to see who we were gonna marry, what kind of house and how much money we’d have. Or something like that. Wouldn’t mind seeing you all do the updated quizzes for just a contrast in how teens have changed (or not changed 🤷🏻♀️). Ya know. Educational purposes for us old ✨30-something-year-old-ladies ✨…and now I miss Jenna Marbles.
I miss Jenna to
Ohh that would be so interesting! I feel like kids now (with internet maybe) are so much more grown up. The quizzes probably look quite different.
also 34f; hollo from Kansas! my older (40f) sister and i both had mag subscriptions growing up- she particularly loved the quizzes & took her answers very seriously. she also was very invested in the workout routines - it's insane how many workout routines were pushed and how body critical some of those 90s magazines were
this was such a funny and entertaining video !! i'd love to see this followed up :)
I loved this! I am 29 so when I was growing up I definitely got all these magazines and took all the quizzes. I remember seeing a picture of Avril Lavigne in that pink and black plaid skirt, and I immediately went to Hot Topic in my local mall and bought it 😂 I don’t know that I took all the advice seriously, but I remember an article where Selena Gomez talked about how her skincare routine was just drying her skin out on purpose to get rid of the acne 😅 I had oily skin, so I definitely did that and hurt my skin, haha.
I literally laughed out loud so many times in this episode. We need more quizzes! 😂😂
Ben’s reaction to the photo of the boy was hilarious. His genuine laugh cracked me up.
I'm only 9 minutes in and there are so many good laughs in this episode! 🤣
It's funny you describe these as 90s magazines. I remember doing these in middle school, and I was born after 2000. Growing up in Eastern Europe and moving to Canada, i realized that, in a lot of ways, early 2000s where i was born was basically like the late 90s in the US. It's odd how much I relate to this, with the added perspective of sort-of adulthood (early twenties) and gaining maturity within the context of relationships, respect, idealism vs. realism etc. These topics are not something I hear talked about a lot, so it's refreshing to hear someone acknowledge them.
Please never let this end, you're my comfort podcast ❤️
We need more of these!!
Cristine is such a nostalgia bomb this ep 😆 I would have absolutely met someone like you in middle school
please do part 2 to this no matter how this vid performs cuz I love this so stinking much
I totally loved these quizzes when I was a teen, when I liked to fantasize about relationships 😂
I want to hear more quizzes! this was one of the most entertaining episodes imo!
this was such a fun episode!!
41:42 fun fact: the boy in that picture is Jason Dolley, he played PJ on Good Luck Charlie and he was also in Minute Men! Idk if Cris or Ben will know those but my fellow zoomers should remember the iconic Disney show GLC.
I watched this show with my kid, which makes me sound really old, but I'm 35 I swear 😂
This must be the funniest podcast ever, maybe because I was down the past few days, but this made me crack real good at work!🤣
ahh yes I remember these. In retrospect this explains a LOT of my younger dating insecurities LOL. Thanks for this beautiful gift of a podcast.
Simply committing to the 90s w the head band. Love it
Growing up in the country, I only had 4 people in my class before going to an all girls secondary school. I used to take these quizzes all the time but it always felt highly fictionalised or aspirational to me because I just didn't have the independence, exposure, or opportunity that the people in the quiz options seemed to have. So in that sense I don't think I took them seriously, they didn't feel real, but I have no doubt that they shaped some of my interactions once I got older. In my young mind, the interactions described in the quizzes must be real because these quizzes were designed for other readers like me to take. And I read a lot of them for years of my life. I think I did box things into certain categories or expectations for awhile until I finally learned through my own experiences to take things as they come . I think I would have had an easier time overall without these quizzes in my life. Still, as a bored kid in the country, I had fun at the time
Wow such a throwback to my childhood! I can’t count how many hours my friends and I spent with these types of magazines. The best part was the posters that cam inside. My room was COVERED in them.
I cannot stop cackling at this LMAO loved the fun lighthearted idea
More!! More 90's quizzes!
The nostalgia! I'm a British 31 year old so the magazines had different names but it was all the same quizzes and stuff. I miss the free gifts that came with a magazine. Loved a pink fluffy topped pencil or weird sticker set!
For anyone curious I read Girl Talk, Mizz and Top of the Pops
My first thought when cris said vintage 90s quizzes was “is 90s vintage” so glad Ben said it as soon as I thought it 😂😂
😂😂😂❤❤❤ love taco tuesdays! laughed so much and hard durning this one too!
I used to do these kinds of quizzes all the time in the 90s and early 00s, they were one of my favourite parts of the magazines. I never took them very seriously, for me the impact was probably more subconscious if anything, like the reinforcing norms stuff. I do remember there were a lot that weren't about relationships etc too, more personality quiz style. I also loved the pages where people would share funny, embarrassing stories, though I'm sure if I read them now they'd seem ridiculous lol.
I was not so much into the magazines with the quizzes, but they did impact a fair bit on how I felt about boys. And here's some random stuff I was thinking while watching this episode:
Famous redhead - Ed Sheeran.
We had computers since the late 80s. But we only got the internet in early 2000, and it was dial-up. Three years later when we got broadband all my uni friends were extremely jealous.
And Ben, as for the blurting out whatever ideas come into your head - that sounds a lot like brainstorming.
The sour cream pie story 😂 always a favorite
I was born in 97 but still bought magazines and did these quizzes in my preteen years 😂 I also didn’t have a phone until high school lol
Cristine: starts singing
Menchie: looks for the nearest exit
lolololol
10 out of 10 to Menchie for that loaf 🍞
This was hilarious! Please do more😃
Cristine your hair looks SO GOOD and SO HEALTHY.
I remember picking out three or four of those magazines and we will be going on a really long road trips… that and my disc man.
Lovw these podcasts ben & cristine
Ben charming all the moms - "oh my Beyn!" Great episode, I laughed so much, even as a very young GenX who wasn't allowed to read these magazines.
