I have heard of health benefits from sour cherries but these are very hard to find in the stores. Would eating the more common sweet cherries in the local produce section provide similar benefits aside from the sugar load? BTW, really enjoying your accent. We really don't hear anything like it very often here in the states.
In the UK we will soon be offered flu vaccines. I have seen speculation that the adjuvanted quadrivalent vaccine of 2019, produced using animal cells rather than eggs, impacted the immune system and increased the chance of coronavirus infection and mortality. I have also seen a correlation between people who had the vaccine and Covid deaths but that might just be caused by the common factor of age. Can you apply your expert scrutiny to this topic? I hope it's not too controversial.
I like your warm, engaging style of presenting this quality material. I tried cutting down on purines and went almost vegetarian, but the gout got worse, even with medication. It only improved when I cut down on all sugars including carbohydrates - maybe inflammation was a bigger factor than purines? Now I can eat more food with purines, but just a couple of slices of bread can have me back on my back in pain for a couple of days! Anyway, some helpful advice here. I can certainly confirm your comments about cherries (especially sour), coffee and low fat milk - highly therapeutic indeed in reducing pain and preventing attacks.
Dr Sam, I am so glad I have found you. I am grateful there are Drs that really care about people and try to find root causes. Some choose to cover up with medications. Thank you for looking deeper than most into the causes that lead to problems.
Great video Dr. Sam. I have experienced gout in the past. When I finally got serious about my diet, and quit all sugar and junk food, I've been fine ever since. Thank you for helping to save my life. You truly are a blessing to me, and a beautiful doctor.
03:25 When the world's most beautiful doctor speaks/smiles! Patient becomes symptomless throughout the whole length of your videos. You are a an instant pill for all ailments (for at least 5-10 minutes of your videos :).
Interesting video!! I am a medical doctor i am in my early 30s and I have experienced my first gout attack 2 months ago. It would have been more interesting if you would have discussed complications of Hyperuricemia as well as chronic and acute gout.. Cheers!! Looking forward to watch your more of your informative videos
Dr. Sam, You are wonderful! I could listen to you all day, no matter what subject you are speaking on, although, I do learn many important tips from you. I love that you truly care about people and speak honestly on many health topics. Thank you so much for all you do!
I'm glad that you pointed out the link between hyperuricaemia and cardiovascular disease, chronic kidney disease, and diabetes. Indeed, all 3 are linked. They are all part of metabolic syndrome. And what else are all 3 linked to? Inflammation. Obesity, too, but inflammation is what lies behind these 3 chronic conditions plus gout and arthritis. And what's behind inflammation? Mostly a bad diet, lacking in vegetables, and high in sugars and bad fats (polyunsaturated oils). It may seem simple, but most of us fail to make these obvious connections. I know I have. And it's taken a gout attack to make me see. I hope I can make the dietary and lifestyle changes I need to, before things go from bad to worse. And I hope this helps someone too.
dr Sam it is always good to her from you is great the you have all the nolige I try to watch as much of your video as I can why wont the media listen to you because you know what you are talking about and a lovely smile
You told me new things I didn't know. I lived in Australia. Nice to listen to you.thanks for the info.stopped sugar Dairy and gluten added spinach broccoli And rice.eating very very simple lots of fruits and veggies. 🍒 .lost 2 dress sizes Slowly.gonna add coffee and vitamin c Thanks so much..Your video is terrific.
Good effort you made. I have high uric acid and Carpal tunnel syndrome also. But no gout symptoms. Doctor suggested me to use vegetables and fruits only and avoid all type of meat and beans.
I have stage 4 kidney disease, follow the diet and take febuxostat, however still get gout occasionally but not nearly as bad as it was prior to medication. Thanks for sharing some other helpful information. I will try the hints.
During the whole length of your video the patient becomes symptomatic. You're a medication for all problems instantly. The most gorgeous physician in the world speaks/smiles as nobody ever seen before.
thank you so much Dr i have been on keto diet anf fasting and lost 13 kilos after quitting smoking and now are confrunted with severe gout in the left big toe
I enjoyed this video and I value the info about maintaining low uric acid levels. I don’t know how to measure it myself without a doctor visit. Please tell us how to gain insight into our Uric acid levels
Thank you Dr Sam for the very informative video. I am a gout patient for the last 6 years . The first attack was very painful and sever , I went on a medication and a strict diet for three months until the pain fully gone ! Since then I’m on daily dose of 100 mg of allopurinol and 1000 mg of vitamin C! I do get attacks once or twice a year in some seasons but light ones they would go after two or three days with taking plenty of water with lemon ! A month ago I had a very strong attack in my left foot big toe joint a similar to the first one I got despite the uric acid wasn’t that much high , the last blood test showed 7.3 ! I have few questions here : 1- does the high blood pressure or a panic situation cause gout attacks ? 2- do supplements sold in Amazon or other websites such the cherry tart and celery seeds extracts etc really maintain the uric acid levels ? 3- do people who change their their diet , loose weight , exercise etc but from time to time consume some high purine foods and drinks are likely to get attacks ? Let’s say 70% low purine foods and drinks 30% high purine foods and drinks! 4- do some leguminous plants products such as chickpeas , different types of beans , lentils etc contribute in rising the uric acid level like other high purine foods ? Finally I wish you all the best Ali
Hi Dr. Sam, I was wondering if you could make a video for type 2 diabetes. Specifically, how to control blood sugar and what are the best foods to eat/not eat for this condition. What are good levels of Hemoglobin, A1C, and blood sugar spikes when testing with a blood glucose meter? If you've already covered this topic I will search to see if I can find the videos. Thank you in advance. ~ Steve
anyone here that would not like sam as your docter ..she is so sweet and honest ,her videos on the rona virus and testing mortality etc are also great ,,,
Had my first gout attack at 26. Over the years I've had it in both big toes, ankles, knees, elbows, wrist and fingers. I take Allopurinol 400mg each day and haven't had an attack in 15 years. I found that of all things stress would trigger it, dont know why. Has anyone heard of stress contributing? Have to say that I really dont miss it, lol. Especially taking colchicine and indocin.
Great video Dr Sam 👍. I am getting medically wiser by the week ☺. Just forwarded this informative video to a friend who suffers from gout - just your beautiful warm smile will make him feel better ☺. THANKS & take care 👍.
Very informative video for me as I have suffered from high uric acid recently. The one on metoprolol was also relevant to me.Keep on giving us the inexpensive guidance, with your beautiful smiles .May God bless you Dr Sam B.
Great info. My GP perscribed me some colchicine that stopped almost all the pain quickly and then some more after 2 or 3 days. Since then I've been drinking 1 lemon and 1 lime in the morning with water and Cherry juice concentrate in the afternoon. So far so good but I will try the celery as well and start alternating these so the body can have the best of both worlds. I did 18 months keto and lost 6 stone previously but I think that purine rich food may have added to the cause of my Gout. I had it in my big toe and woke wondering how an earth I kicked the treadmill from the bed in my sleep 🤣 and of course I hadn't. Love your videos on the virus. I'm a Kiwi living in the UK and we are on the same page. Protect your wealth with a few gold coins for when the fiat currency starts hyperinflation and they change to crypto or whatever. You have an infectious smile my dear and are a truly blessed soul. Thank you for all that you do. Vern and family
So some years ago I was diagnosed with gout & pseudo gout, an extremely painful combination! Outcome was removal of 3.5 of 4 parathyroids (too much calcium) & prescribed allopurinol. Nasty side effects from allopurinol so was switched to the more expensive Febuxostat. Never had a problem since. I steer away from beer but enjoy offal & shellfish. I also have ‘Cherrygood’ drink, made from montmorency cherries, each morning at breakfast. Thanks Dr Sam for another easy to understand video.
Interesting topic and well explained. Thank you! I always enjoy your videos, even when nothing applies to me, because you make boring stuff interesting and your friendly smile certainly also helps.
Indeed very helpful information Dr. Sam, as always with your videos, fresh attitude and positivness. As a gout sufferer in the past I can assure there's excruciating pain in the body part that swells, not even whit standing the touch of bed sheets. These mess, in my case, was triggered by beer and red wine ingestion. My count was on 10.3. Of course there's a magic pill to ease the pain, but not recommended in the long run: Colchicine. Causes diarrhoea the second day. I was treated with Allopurinol, one daily tablet. As I am not a friend of traditional medicine, my doctor prescribed me some homeopathy medicine: Benzoicum acid and Colchicum (those guys use latin language) diluted to 1/6th. 5 drops before any food ingestion, alternated between components, one day benzoicum next colchicum. Daily until a new blood count shows a significant drop. My experience: allopurinol (Zyloprim if its from Pfizer) just keep things stable. Homeopathy and diet is what really lowers it all. Food and drink no, no's: beer, red wine, sugar sodas, beef liver, kidneys and all that gut kind of stuff. What helped: Cherries, celery and parsley concoctions and... 1 tablespoon a day before breakfast of apple cider vinegar, organic, non filtered, un filtered and with "the mother". It will help for other health issues, including mouth bacteria, stomach acid. Beware: if already you have gastritis diagnosed, avoid the ACV. I will come back and post a link to a video where there's the purine level value for each 100 grams of meat, poultry, fruits, vegetables, seeds. You will find amazing almost EVERYTHING contains purines. It is important to note that even if there's no pain or being asymptomatic , we must lower uric acid levels due to a high frictional wear on our joints. Think of those uric acid crystals as sandpaper rubbing our joints. In the end, as Dr Sam said, it is a form of arthritis. Stay safe everyone. There's life and hope beyond a gout attack.
I used to get gout quite a bit. Used Allopurinal until it got too expensive. A local doctor recommended Tart Cherry for treatment. I took it for quite awhile and it seemed to stop the gout problem! Like your videos. Kinda like a visit from a friend!
Thank you Dr. Sam. I have gout and knew very little about it and watched your video and I have learned a lot about myself and what I need to do to deal with this. Thank you so very much.
Well defined and described with facts and her experience, specially the medication she described to avoid. I was victim of gout recently but I am fine now. Do not take down your videos. It's very helpful. 😃 - 😇😍
Hey Sam, I'm a 30 year old male of Asian decent who has been exercising/gyming/cardio (running + boxing) 5 days a week for the last few years. I weigh 65kgs and healthy on the BMI index. My diet (due to acne) has been quite clean for 2+ years, consisting of mainly some protein (100g or less) of chicken, salmon or beef, a lot of veggies such as broccoli, cabbage, spinach, kale, carrots, beans & white button mushrooms and a source of carb, usually soba noodles, brown rice and sweet potatoes (had to reduce G.I intake due to acne). I also eat a lot of fruit such as oranges, apples, pineapple, kiwi fruit etc... I do eat a lot of honey I do not drink any alcohol at all, I also rarely drink any sweet drinks i.e fizzy, juice etc except for home made lemon + honey drink. Despite all my efforts above, my last blood test showed 42mmol/l, I have no symptoms of gout but my father has gout at 55 years of age and couldn't walk etc... Should I be worried and what else can I do?
Ive suffered from gout for several years, around two attacks a year, due mainly to beer,Ive recently found that taking URAL , lemon flavour effervescent powder, which is for urinary tract infections, works well as its a Alkaliniser. whats your thoughs?
Nice lesson, thanks Doctor.. About Vitamin C do you suggest to increase dosage up to 1/2gr per day? About coffee I red some controversial info on its regular use. Water amount also could be helpful?
I also found that increasing my water intake lowered uric acid levels and reduced the number and severity of gout attacks, and I found that some seafoods increased them especially prawns, crabs etc.
a few years ago i was taking Vitamin D with Calcium on doctors orders. after several months i started waking up and could barely move my fingers without incredible pain (it would go away after 30 minutes of flexing ). x-rays showed bad arthritis, after a few months i decided to stop taking the Vitamin D and Calcium, the morning stiffness and pain ceased after a week, i didn't think of the Vitamin D & Calcium being the case due to the long time period between starting and negative effects. oh and the pain from my bunion greatly reduced after ceasing the tablets as well.
Very informative. I used to get out quite a bit, stopped with the high fat foods and port after dinner. Did not have another until the " Genius " decided to freeze chicken and lamp far for several recipes. Never again.
Hi Dr. Sam. Last year I was having gout pain in my right big toe. Started putting a handful of craisins on my cereal each day for breakfast and the pain has gone! Have you found this to be helpful with any of your patients? Thanks.
I got gout at 22 and suffered for years. I found high fructose in frosty fruit icepoles could set it off in 1 hour. I swapped foods/drinks in and out but nothing seemed to work as a definative reaction. As a bet to lose weight I tried the keto diet....no gout in 12 months and 25 kg weight loss. If I go back on carbs I get gout tingles in my feet within 2 weeks (and put on weight as water).
Gout is the worst pain I have ever had, spent 3 weeks in hospital some years ago, when I found out what I could not eat I decided to go the Allopurinol rout, I will need to take for the rest of my life
I got my first gout attack (hopefully my last) and was in severe pain , I came across your video while looking for some kind of help ,must say, your very pleasant and seem to have great bedside qualities I will give your tips a try and let you know how it goes 👍🏻
I had high uric acid levels in 1986. It was a hint toward polisistic kidney disease, a little late. I had my first kidney transplant by the end of that year, along with all the cardiovascular bull. Take the hint from Dr. Sam, get checked!
Hi Doctor, my partner has been diagnosed with gall stones and will have to have her gallbladder removed, could you please do a clip on this subject, thank you.
What did you like best about this video? What topic would you like me to cover next? Let me know here 😃

I have to watch it over. First viewing I was mesmerized by Dr. Sam and Barbarella.
Aye, yi, yi, eh?
So some years ago I was diagnosed with gout & pseudo gout, an extremely painful combination! Outcome was removal of 3.5 of 4 parathyroids (too much calcium) & prescribed allopurinol. Interesting topic and well explained. Thank you! I always enjoy your videos, even when nothing applies to me, because you make boring stuff interesting and your friendly smile certainly also helps.
Indeed very helpful information Dr. Sam, as always with your videos, fresh attitude and positivness.

Thanks Dr Sam this is some great advise because I have suffered from the gout over the years.
Her beauty and smile made me forget about my gout. Js 😊
I'm having mild Gout. And it's lowing down and which food are best to stick to for lunch dinner and breakfast.
wonderful thank you Dr Sam
Nice lesson, thanks Doctor..
About Vitamin C do you suggest to increase dosage up to 1/2gr per day?
About coffee I red some controversial info on its regular use.
Water amount also could be helpful?
You are the cure,, thank you...
The most pleasant health tips :)
Appreciate the information...
I also found that increasing my water intake lowered uric acid levels and reduced the number and severity of gout attacks, and I found that some seafoods increased them especially prawns, crabs etc.
I noticed the same thing. If I allow myself to get dehydrated either from strenuous work, not enough water intake or both I could predict a flair.
a few years ago i was taking Vitamin D with Calcium on doctors orders.
after several months i started waking up and could barely move my fingers without incredible pain (it would go away after 30 minutes of flexing ).
x-rays showed bad arthritis, after a few months i decided to stop taking the Vitamin D and Calcium, the morning stiffness and pain ceased after a week, i didn't think of the Vitamin D & Calcium being the case due to the long time period between starting and negative effects.
oh and the pain from my bunion greatly reduced after ceasing the tablets as well.
Is uric acid crystals, the same as oxalate crystals?
Very informative. I used to get out quite a bit, stopped with the high fat foods and port after dinner. Did not have another until the " Genius " decided to freeze chicken and lamp far for several recipes. Never again.
Hi Dr. Sam. Last year I was having gout pain in my right big toe. Started putting a handful of craisins on my cereal each day for breakfast and the pain has gone! Have you found this to be helpful with any of your patients? Thanks.

hi dra.sam.i have a gout 2 weeks, until now.can i take a cacium?thank you.
Gout is the worst pain I have ever had, spent 3 weeks in hospital some years ago, when I found out what I could not eat I decided to go the Allopurinol rout, I will need to take for the rest of my life
Changing diet seems like the most important, can you please tell me how to do it?
Thanks! Applying Olive oil and tea tree oil.

I had high uric acid levels in 1986. It was a hint toward polisistic kidney disease, a little late. I had my first kidney transplant by the end of that year, along with all the cardiovascular bull. Take the hint from Dr. Sam, get checked!
Thank you Dr Sam.
Really enjoy the vlogs here in the UK.

Flaxseed did a good job in earlier times to fix that problem . Stop consuming industrial damaged omega 6 and reduce saturated fats.
Isn't It tart cherries and tart cherry juice the best option?
