Deer blind for hunting season and playhouse for the girls for the rest of the year or a place to grab a few beers with friends while looking out over the fields. Looking good.
Awesome build! This maybe helpful... You might consider putting headers under the ridge posts, with jack studs down to the plates. Without collar ties and double top plates over time the snow load may push your walls out. hope this helps...
A friend was talking about adding some 12 volt LED lights and a solar powered battery charger and placing the lights down low below the shooting bench for getting set in the morning and picking up after dark
We go with 5 pack (20.00) or similar "stick on" (use adhesive instead) LED push on/off lights (you know, the TV, Dollar store kind). Keep a supply of AA nearby during season. Completely USEFUL and CHEAP!
Back in the 90s my uncle built one just like this only difference he had a small wood stove, alotta deer was taken out of that thing everyone called it the kill house lol. Makes alot more sense to buid one of these that will last years and years. The one my uncle built would still be used if a tornado didnt fling it 200yards away lol.
I like it a lot . As big as it is it could be blended in to the setting easy . I like how you have addressed the little things that make all the difference . Good Hunting to Yah !
That is a cool concept. I thought at first you were going to use the running gear as a platform. Your idea was a lot better. Awesome build! I built mine on an old fold out camper frame.
Very nice build! Yeah, it gets all the way cold in MI and here in WI too. Next year for sure I'll have a box stand as I'm too old & cold in rifle season after a few hours anymore
my son built similar out of a hay bale hauler, much lighter, used fiberglass siding and roof, insulated, old discarded aluminum camper windows mr heater. we call it the war wagon
I use that see-through camouflaged fabric for curtains from the outside. All you see is the camo patterns from the inside. You can see right through it so you don't ever have to mess with it. Unless you want to shoot then you just slide it off the side a little bit.
If I was gonna bowhunt out of it, I’d definitely do something like that. But, we don’t usually use it until gun season and usually for the late doe season. At that point, deer don’t ever pick us off. Even up close.
@FullQuiverOutdoors I live in Texas. Even rifle season. It's hot so I like to keep my windows open so I can get a breeze. Plus I can hear movement around me. But then again I don't usually have company to play games or talk or anything like that so that's not an issue.
Man I've had that idea for a long time, but built from a different base so the height can be adjustable from inside using electric screw rams in square tubing.
Love the blind, I agree farm implements are not noticed by deer after one day. I saw deer tracks around a small building within one week., after farmers had pulled an outhouse looking farm trailer into the middle of the field 1/4 mile from road. I thought deer would change travel pattern around this thing. Within a week had tracks next to it. The next year I killed two deer sitting in it 😮. Yes farm implements even weird ones , are hardly noticed
Straight cuts have a 2x6 header underneath them and screws through the side of the wagon as well. 45’s just have screws through the side of the wagon to hold them in place
So many guys don’t think about that. Not nearly as much of an issue down south where it’s warm. But I don’t want scent getting out with the windows open so I can see either
even though you tried to keep the center of gravity low I have to wonder if you considered to install some outriggers for balance, it does get windy in MI. Or, maybe some ballast below the shooting platform.
I pull it through plowed fields and it rocks back and forth pretty good. The center of gravity isn’t as high as it looks. It doesn’t move in high winds at all. And it goes down the road at 40-50mph depending on how bumpy the road is. I don’t know if ballast would allow me to do anything I’m not currently doing.
@@User-nx7rspotholes are 80% of Michigan’s roads! 😂 The big balloon tires do a great job of smoothing out even large potholes. If it’ll go through a plowed cornfield, it’ll go through anything!
You mentioned center of gravity concern. Even w the floor it could still be done thru the wagons door. Throw some sandbags in the bottom. Unless you're using it as storage
I’m going to build something like this on an old lawnmower hauling trailer as a indoor shooting shack on my range and maybe as a blind too My range is in middle of a pasture and don’t want anything permanent built there so can pull it out to whatever distance want to shoot from the berm backstop
Not at all. I trailer down the road no issues at 40-45mph no problem. I was worried about that too. But with the extended capacity grain bin, there’s only about 30” side walls so there’s probably less weight up top that it looks at first glance.
When it plugs holes, yes, it helps hold in the scent. Other than that, no it doesn’t. There are a couple holes in the metal on grain wagons that need to be patched and I did that with latex caulk. They aren’t built air tight so there is a little patch work to be done. The spray foam is mainly for insulation though
You’d think that would be an issue. But even in sub zero weather, the Mr Buddy Heater stays on low or it gets too warm. I was surprised at how well it does
We’ve talked about it several times. Unfortunately I don’t have a spot to pull it near me where we all could do it. I just don’t have much land. But we are gonna try sometime
I made the door about 30” wide. I don’t know how tall the walls are. I have an extra capacity gravity wagon so they are shorter than ones built on a regular wagon. The center of the roof is about 6’ tall.
That would imply I know anything about carpentry. 😂 No, I figured out the total height that I wanted to be able to clear most tree limbs and other obstructions when trailering it. Then I figured out how to get the most headroom. From there I figured out wall height and peak height I needed. I just needed a little pitch to get the snow to slide off in the winter.
My buddy went and I would visit him to go steelheading and salmon fishing on the PM. I went to Lansing Community College and took a few classes at Michigan State
Nope, we move it down the road about 45mph no problem. We also drive it through plowed fields too and it doesn’t tip over. The running gear weighs a lot
I understand. But the gravity boxes by themselves sit in the fields around here all the time and the deer don’t care. The camo was just for the cool factor 👍🏻
It is not the “only way”. I hunt with a longbow all season out of open treestands and saddles. I’ve only taken one buck ever out of a blind. We hardly ever hunt out of them until late season when it’s frigid cold. You don’t need to knock anyone’s idea of hunting to make yourself feel better.
@@henryfredette6735man, that’s crazy. I don’t see many guys hunting with a longbow, self taping and killing deer on camera like I do. You must run in some fun circles to see a bunch of us. I’m in a treestand or in the field about 65-70 days a year and have taken 31 big game animals so far this year. Not one from a blind yet and almost every one on camera. You don't. It's just fun after a long archery season of sitting in the elements to be able to share a comfy blind with some buddies and enjoy a doe hunt or two together. Sometimes the late season here in Michigan can be sub-zero weather and there's no way a kid will be able to sit for any length of time to hunt in the elements so we'll go to the big blind.

Usually it’s frigid out and we are ready to hunt with some buddies and have a good time and tell hunting stories. Might not be your cup of tea to have camaraderie like that but it sure is mine.

Awesome setup. Perfect platform!

I was looking at the Monarch solar battery charger system with lights just the other day. Might have to get one.
Try to get red lights instead of white light. Still bright enough to see and easy on the eyes.

I just sat a blind on top of a KillBro gravity wagon and rolled it out on the edge of a wheat field. Looks like a abandoned combine in the tall weeds.
That's neat mite build one.
Wow. Great job and a great idea.. good hunting.
Very unique and cool idea, great job 👍👍
I just bought a ATN X sight night vision scope so I can record my shots can't wait

Tint with the mirror tint, I have it on all my blinds and it works great. All the animal sees when they look at it is the sky.
Nice job! Enjoy it!

Very cool teach the kids that hunting is a good hobby 😊
Cut a hole in the wagon just below the floor and you can carry your grain/deer feed in the lower part
Now that’s bad ass and smart good job buddy
How did you screw the flooring down to the wagon? I saw you did 45s on one side but straight cuts on the other.

I had the same idea, put screw jacks to level up the stand, that way you can take off a wheel, so no one can steal it

You mentioned center of gravity concern. Even w the floor it could still be done thru the wagons door. Throw some sandbags in the bottom. Unless you're using it as storage
It was a concern until it was done. Once it was finished, we found it’s not top heavy and trailers very well

If it a portable blind with wheels on, you have to have a permit to, hunt out of is that right?
Not in Michigan. Only motorized vehicles. You can hunt off any wagon or trailer as long as it doesn’t have a motor
Great idea

What county? Looks cool
Mid Michigan. We hunt several counties
Would. Be instresting to see how. The urinal is routed. To the outside
It’s a tube that goes through the floor and down towards the grain chute. It just runs out the grain chute.
@FullQuiverOutdoors ok
Any problems being top heavy, or do u have weights in lower part of wagon?
