  • This is my bothers custom built deer blind. It sits 16ft in the air! Some of the ideas put into this deer blind will blow you away and others you may hate. Many people have said they do not like the 16ft tall ladder but his idea is that if you cant climb up there then you should not be hunting in his blind.

    Just built mine 16ft tall 8x10, 3x8 deck on the front, pvc pipe that goes from the inside corner of the blind down to the stream right next to the blind, inside has 4 folding benches for beds and sniper benches, sliding windows with one way camo tint. all spray foam insulated tin roofing on the outside and plywood inside. Has a electric heater for when we sleep out there and coyote hunting. I insulated the floor and doubled the carpet pad and doubled the carpet up so it's quiet moving around and if you drop something. I also have solar panel on the roof with a battery pack set up to power the heater, charge phones, a light and the spotlights for coyote season. Just finished it this October and have used it for deer hunting 15 x!

    That is one fine shooting house. We hunt in south Alabama and it could be looking over a clear cut or a patch with pine plantations but the set up is the same. Love the bells and whistles on this house. Great job and makes long sits much easier during the cold days.
    I would have a safety rope attached to my harness for going up and down that ladder. We started using safety ropes on our climbing stands too. We have gotten to old and don’t bounce like we once did. Like you said....its the landing that kills you

    Nice blind. On my farm in Iowa, I replaced all vertical ladders on my elevated box blinds with stairs with rails on both sides. Have to look at the realities of aging and safety. My most comfortable elevated stand is a Semi Sleeper Cab that a friend gave me.

    I am with Charlie, I too would prefer some pitch to that ladder. Watching your video gave me an idea for how I can modify my windows in my box blind. Right now they are just solid wood that hinge up and have to be open to see out. I think I will add Plexi glass to them so they can slide open or tilt the whole thing up out of the way like your brother's. It doesn't get that cold down her in southern IN but heat sure makes sitting and waiting a lot more enjoyable. Thanks for the video.

      Make sure to get thick enough plexiglass that you don’t accidentally break the plexiglass later.... the blind I used to get my last deer was made by a friend’s dad, who went cheap on the plexiglass and bought the thinnest he could get, half the windows are already broke...

    He built/overbuilt that stand nicely, but I would of added a railing tot he platform so you get to the top, step to the side where you are surrounded by railing then open the door in front of the ladder so it swings to the right/ this way you could walk in from a safe position. you could go a step further having a rope or chain that closes the ladder opening.
    With a ladder like that, you SHOULD have a fall arrester rope parallel to the ladder that you secure yourself to with a harness. This is a simple section of climbing rope, and some means of stopping a fall such as a prusik knot. If the rope is secured at both ends so it is just slightly loose, it will work fine with one hand.
    As for the lift rope. I do similar. I can strap my rifle or crossbow (or compound bow) to my backpack, so I attach my rope to the backpack carry handle and lift both in one load. I will sometimes wear the backpack and weapon while climbing, but that is not entirely safe... then again hoisting a cocked crossbow unloaded is a good way to get a broken crossbow, so I do get lazy from time to time and strap it on so it is not banging around on its way up, or I just wait til I am in my stand to cock it (depends on circumstances).

  • @trenthicks523
    @trenthicks523 Год назад

    That's cool. With a vertical ladder though, it would be cool to run the ladder underneath the blind, and have a trap door in the floor.

      couple of things you need to think about with the Times today is lumber prices and not everyone is a perfect carpenter or they have the tools available
      To build a blind or even have the help and strength to assemble it once it is built. I myself have done both currently I hunt out of a Menards Booner plastic blind and have for three years I have also built a wood blind that has been up and is usable for about 10 to 12 years. He should have installed safety railings on the sides of the small deck and a hand hold railing at the top so makes it easier to get off and onto the ladder at the top. Think it alittle careless of him not installing that safety items. ESPECIALLY with kids never know who may try it and fall because of no safety railings. Only takes one time mistake that will end a life or cripple someone.
