      Yep. Ive come across more of these than I'd like to admit and they often don't even bother to try and hide their behaviour. I've come across nurses who enjoy inflicting what amounts to psychological (and sometimes physical) torture on their patients and have been at rhe receiving end of it. Obviously nurses need protection from being abused while doing their jobs, but unfortunately the protection can lean too far in their favour and allow them to get away with being very dangerous and damaging.
      It scares me to see the general public insisting that all nurses are angels and that people who are nurses are automatically amazing people. When people just have this ingrained belief that all nurses are angels it makes it easier for them to get away with incompetence, neglect and even abuse.

    Looking into the case, the evidence against LL appears to be very weak. For example, the neonatal unit at Chester hospital was working to a ratio of one nurse to three infants 2015/16 after it had been upgraded to take in seriously ill babies, some recovering from major surgery that nurses did not have the expertise to deal with. This ratio should have been one nurse to each baby. After the increased death rate was noticed the hospital was downgraded and the practice of sending the most sick to Chester came to an end. Also, there does seem to be evidence that the sewage leak at the maternity ward next door to the neonatal unit could, indeed, have caused a viral infection outbreak, potentially throughout the hospital. For adults, that would be a bit of a tummy ache. For vulnerable neonatal babies that could be fatal. Letby's conviction could be a dreadful miscarriage of justice, as was a similar case against a Dutch nurse, Lucia de Berk. Ofcourse, I'm a lay person and none of us can be sure what we read online is reliable but my gut feeling is that something is very off about Letby's case and I'm pleased that experts in relevant fields are now stepping forward to help with the appeal. The parents of the babies in question deserve robust evidence, not circumstancial evidence, hearsay and speculation.

    Doctors and nurses need to be watched more closely. They earn decent money and simply cannot be allowed to harm others. We trusted them before, but times are changing. We got to move with the times. Not every doctor or nurse is a marvelous person.

    • @chynablu11
      @chynablu11 Год назад +1

      How do you suggest that doctors and nurses are 'watched more closely'? if a person is determined to commit criminal acts, then they will do so, this applies to anyone, not just medical staff. You say 'we trusted them before, but times are changing' are you stating that all doctors and nurses are not to be trusted, based on the criminal actions of a very small minority? This is extremely unfair on the 99.99% of hard working medical staff that who provide the best possible care to their patients and take pride in doing so! The staff raised concerns with management and their concerns were not acted upon, so why is it that all doctors and nurses should be watched more closely? Surely it is the NHS management who need to be watched more closely! they are not medical staff!

    We'll probably never know why. Fortunately it's something most of us will never be able to relate to. All we can do is increase checks/never leave people in a position of care on their own. That said, it's important to realise this is incredibly rare and not exactly something anyone in their right mind could have prepared for. But the nurse management clearly protecting her from the Drs' concerns/suspicions clearly needs to be investigated.

  • @nikkib8811
    @nikkib8811 Год назад +8

    You mentioned boredom as a motivation for the German nurse. Lucy Letby apparently told her colleagues she was bored in the nursery units she was in, preferring the high profile section where the sickest babies were. Maybe it's not too much of a stretch to wonder if she instigated some of the collapses suffered by the newborn babies because she got bored without the adrenaline inducing stimuli of dealing with resuscitation. I don't think that was the whole motivation though. I think a 'God complex' and possibly jealousy of other people's family units might have played a part too, and then ultimately, she found that she 'enjoyed' killing 😢

People who are caring, kind and want to help because they are naturally nurturing people - and those that feel small and want to feel powerful. I've had too much experience with medical professionals after spending years being gaslit and misdiagnosed for almost a decade, so I've seen the very best of this profession and the absolute worst.

    • @chynablu11
      @chynablu11 Год назад +1

      She cannot be 'forced' to hear the sentencing, as the law stands, she has the right not to attend if she so chooses. Only a change in legislation could ensure that a defendent must be present at sentencing, but that would be opening a can of worms. Having received a whole life term, she has nothing to lose by refusing, it is also a possibility that she may decide to verbally abuse the victims families or attack someone present in court. A person with nothing to lose is the most dangerous and the safety of the court must be a priority.

    If these individuals go for those who will 'put up the least resistance', how would that 'play out' with those who work with 'vunerable adults'? Yes it's 'hard to spot' evil individuals. We expect carers to have empathy. If the hospital managers did not support the Doctors, then who 'supports' care workers in the 'private' sector where profit and the 'good' reputation of the organisation is all that matters. Management need to be 'held accountable' the same as everyone else. Is corporate manslaughter still being considered in this case. There is still more to 'come out' but what will we learn from this in the long term and will changes be made? The phrase 'trust me I'm a Doctor is often used. 'Trust me I'm a nurse' is another version. 'Trust me I'm a social worker' is another version as is 'Trust me, I'm a team leader'. Who exactly can we now actually 'truly trust' in today's world?

    Just my theory, but I think Letby started off with good intentions. She may have witnessed an infantile death in the ward either at Liverpool or Chester, and she found it surprising titillating. It's possible that it was even sexually orgasmic (like Karla Faye Tucker).
    I think that her abhorrent behavior may have been driven by a biological change, maybe a brain tumor or lesion. Possibly a change in the biochemistry of her brain.
    My hope is that she is willing to donate her brain to science after apologizing and explaining "why" she did it or at least what she got out of it.

    This is the closest thing I've seen to the explanation of a possible motive. Even Shipman had a partial motive, money. Did the trial establish a motive? I can't see any reports on that in the UK. It's hard to understand how someone can do something so unspeakably evil without at least some kind of motive. It's easy to read things into stuff after the fact. I hadn't seen all the pictures of her gurning for the camera until now and I wonder if that was a psychological sign of not wanting to be seen by the camera for what you know you are by pulling a silly face all the time

    wasn't it her mother who blurted out, "she's innocent , take me instead!". This speaks volumes! These are highly educated parents who I'm sure understand some or a lot of their own dysfunctional behaviours in raising Lucy. These are all in the subconscious, on a daily basis 24/7, for years and years. Many people who go into therapy usually haven't felt anything (or any feeling) for a long time. They may feel something is not right but it takes a long time for them to "defrost" , start to feel something (glad, mad, sad, scared). Well, thing is, the mother is the one who seems to know something of what she's done all these years. But Lucy is not saying anything. Has she even felt anything? anger perhaps?

    Dr Das, my guilty pleasure.
    On a serious note, I watched a vid from a RUclipsr called 'evil among us'. He gave a good explanation of why she did this.
    I'd implore you to check and give your opinion too. I think that the evil among us channel is absolutely fantastic and it would be great to see a colab between you both

    I enjoy Psychology and it's concepts and have found them helpful in my life, but in some cases i just conclude that evil exists in this world to a level that Psychology can't and never will be able to explain.
