I remember a time where a customer was being ridiculously abrasive. It got to the point where a manager asked them to leave. They complained saying “are you just going to leave a customer unsatisfied?!” And basically in unison all the staff said “yes”.
Amazing. Just learnt recently that the saying "the customer is always right" is in fact "the customer is always right, in terms of taste". Huge difference. A little fun fact. Have a nice one.

@@PeasantForADay Going along with this, it's basically an old adage saying the customer defines the market essentially, not that they're always correct. This is why all of these places should have security. I'm a security officer at a hotel and I cant tell you how many times my mere presence and stare has shut people like this up. They dont need to know that I basically have no actual authority lol, the uniform is enough for most people.
The suggestion of authority is often enough to get people to stop, like having a fake security camera that doesn't store or record data installed at your front door. Just the suggestion that they are being observed is enough to get most would-be thieves to move on to someone else.
Truuuueeee Also a human scarecrow for work. Although people get upset when the only thing I can tell them is to call the cops unless it's on the part of the property I cover. Then I can call the cops.
I worked at a hotel for 6 years, the amount of people who kicked and screamed their way to discounts, comped rooms, or upgrades is staggering. What’s more staggering is the fact that unfortunately it works more often than not. Kudos to her for not bending backwards for this behavior.
That's just how working with the public is, it feels like. When I worked in fast food, it was like that, they'd scream and stamp their feet and usually get their way, cause it's just easier than dealing with jerks like this, I suppose.
i worked in costumer support (on the phone) and they told me if the customer starts screaming or swearing at me it's 100% my right to hang up on them. it should be the same in face to face service as well - if they cause issues you should have the right to cancel their reservation (or deny service or whatever) just like in the video.
I used to work at Chiptole and an old lady came three days in a row complaining about the food being too spicy and we had to unfortunately refund her 75% eaten bowl every day. On the fourth day we noticed her and knew what she was up to, so we decided to make her special batch of pico with no jalapeños so she wouldn’t complain that even our mildest salsa was still to spicy. Sure enough she ate over half her bowl and came back to the counter to ask for a refund. I explained to her that we made her a batch with such little spice and that we couldn’t possibly make is any less spicy without giving her unmarinated chicken. She kept doing the same thing in the video and asking me “what am I supposed to do?” I was young and dumb and I told her “ma’am if you do not like spicy food please don’t go to a food place named after a pepper” she left called cooperate and our district manager had a good laugh and told us to never speak to a guest like that again.
Oh my gosh, that is wild. I worked customer service over the summers while in school to earn some extra money, and I had some of the most irritating encounters. I remember one time I was behind a register taking this lady’s order at a concession stand. I was pretty new, so I was also a little nervous. This lady comes up and orders a pretzel and a coke. She then proceeds to pause for about 5 seconds just looking at me, so I assume the order is over. I ask, “Will that be all for today?” And she very aggressively says, “NO!” She then orders something else and afterwards pauses for 10 seconds, staring directly at me again. I figured if she was still ordering she would be looking at the menu, but NOOOOO. So I politely ask if she is done with her order again, and she gives me a disappointed look, pauses, and then says, “NO, I will tell you when I am finished.” She continues ordering and pauses once again, so I patiently wait. After a bit, she takes out her wallet and puts it on the table. We just awkwardly stand there for a bit before I ask her if she is ready to pay, to which she responds, “There ya go, buddy.” It took everything in me to not throw food at her 😂

It takes a lot to not. I work at a bank and people have this kind of entitlement on a regular basis. Had people ask for several thousand dollars at a bank and then yell at me when I tell them we don’t have that available for them. Also had some people yell at me before I can even ask to see if we can accommodate their request and then the answer becomes an immediate no because its not my fault they didn’t call to see if we have 15,000 to give to them. There have even been people angry wanting close their account out because they had no ID for their transaction and its hilarious because we need that ID to close it out. I have only made an exception for that once and it was because they were very well known. Everyone should get a little customer service experience
You learn it after a while in retail. You give them a look of complete neutrality, you give them nothing but the facts. @@LostShipMate as an additional note. When a customer gets a little too riled up, calling in the manager or security if you have it to escort them is useful. I work at a hotel as a front desk agent. These situations happen more often than you think. The reason that this scam would work is that upgrading someone to a better room for free is that the hotel chain would rather lose a couple bucks than risk getting a bad review. It backfired on this guy because they were sold out and the hotel being full allowed the front desk agent to basically tell them to fuck off.
Believe it or not, at where I work, this is one of the easier scenarios that we deal with. At some point, we have to tell them "we don't have that room available since you canceled the reservation that had that room, now we're sold out, so you can take the one you reserved, or go somewhere else."

Also, this is one of the rare instances where Charlie isn’t wearing a white shirt, and I wasn’t expecting it.

Considering he thought that If he quickly cancelled his double Queen suite, and booked a cheaper King room with a 3rd party, there would be an error/pause in the system. And that would then make it still show he had the Queen, it’s not surprising.
Yeah! When I was looking for a room for my company (2 singles, 1 couple) and I just asked the hotel in advance if they could bring us some foldable beds. They agreed and we simply booked a room with 1 king bed + told the staff to bring us the additional beds. Since we took care of everything in advance, it was not a problem. I used to be a supervisor at Walmart, I always had to explain how to not get angry with customers and just imagine them singing “shawtys like a melody” in your head to make yourself smile. However, I had an associate come up to me saying “hey can you help me out with this guy” and I went over to see what was up, and it was a ~55 year old man throwing a fit because we didn’t have pickled beets. He told me, before I introduced myself, that he knew how to do my job better than I did because he knew exactly how we all hide everything in the back. I said very calmly “sir I’ve seen every item come into the building for 2 years now, if we had pickled beets they’d be in your cart by now.” And then walked away. As soon as I got out of the aisle I accidentally let out my anger and yelled “ASSHOLE!”. They gave me shit for that for a while.

A little kindness goes a long way. One time i was at an airport trying to catch a flight 1 day early on standby because there was a snowstorm coming the next day. When the flight was full everyone on standby walked around frustrated. One man walked up to the counter screaming at the desk attendant saying he paid for a flight blah blah blah and walked off all heated. I walked up to the counter and said something along the lines of im so sorry for his behavior, that was totally uncalled for. I understand theres nothing you can do i just need to confirm for my boss that there is no availability on the next flight. She then worked a little computer magic, handed me a confirmed seat ticket, and said, "Have a great evening." That angry gentlemen did not get on the next flight either but i sure did.

She handled this exactly how she should have, but unfortunately won't receive any gratitude beyond 'good job' because there's plenty more assholes just like this coming right through the door. Just another day in paradise.
I heard years ago that hotels hate the third party booking and prefer if you book straight with them because it is cheaper for the customer (usually) and more direct to the hotel. I merely use third party sites to find hotels in the area, and contact them directly if I can. I hate when people speak down to customer service workers, as if their job isn't worth doing. I think I have only complained twice in my life, and those were extreme circumstances where the person failed to do their job through fault of their own. But, this young woman literally did nothing wrong. And I willing to beat that idiot complains about other people being entitled.
as a hotel overnight front desk agent, the problem is with people booking the rooms not the third parties. CLC guests are the worst. And this woman engaged far too long and was honestly being far to accommodating. She needed to just outright state in no uncertain terms "This is the reservation you made, we have no other availability tonight, you're only options are take the room as is, or cancel your reservation and leave." Her trying to be accommodating and treating the costumer like an adult is ironically what was escalating the situation
I never knew how much people wine and complain at hotels until I started working night audit some people strat freaking out over nothing or something they screwed up
I just can't understand what part of "pull-out couch" that man wasn't comprehending. Based on his refusal to accept that the room could comfortably sleep 4 people, I definitely agree with Charlie that he was scamming and trying to intimidate his way into a better room for less money. Props to the desk worker for her patience and professionalism, and also shout-out to the other guest who spoke up when he saw how that asshole was mistreating her.
She handled that exemplary but it is obvious in the short breathing, tension in her body and all of the micro expressions in her face that it takes it’s toll to deal with bat shit crazy narc guest. I feel so bad for her and wish she had the opportunity to say/do what ever she wants in respond. For her own sanity. Remember; you can’t reason with crazy!
In her position (which I've been in before many times) I would've flat out told him his options. Either he takes the room or he cancels it. Period. If he keeps arguing then I would've told the man I'm not dealing with him anymore and to talk to someone else.
@@joblow5517 yeah she was wayyyy to lenient with that dude. Props to her for keeping her cool like that but it’s fair to say most of us woulda flipped out on him if we were in her shoes lol
@@AustinD_YT No, they mean she was way too polite while doing that. He kept saying "what am I supposed to do", she answered "what we can do..", etc etc. She wasn't affirmative. What they mean is that she should have said "Sir, you can either book into your room or not. All other rooms are booked. Have a good day".
When I was young (I think 9ish) my mom, my brother and I went on vacation. As a single mother my mom didn't have a lot of money. We were tired after a long time in the car and wanted to camp somewhere. The camping was closed though. So we had to go somewhere else, maybe sleep in the car. We went to an hotel which was a bit too expensive, but hearing our story and seeing she was a single mom they gave us a room at a lower price. It was a kingsize bed only but more than large enough to sleep in with 3 people. I remember we even got breakfast for free, even though we payed a lot less than the room was supposed to be. I can't help but think nice of hotel staff since then. They generally want to help people. People like this Ahole that kept trying to scam aren't worth their generosity.
Yep, I got a free upgrade when I took my fiancé and dad out of state for a surgery of mine. I was 20 and made a mistake when reserving our room. They were so nice to us.
i was thinking about exactly this, even if the couch bed wasn’t there a king size should be able to fit two adults and two kids. depending on the age of the kids it might be a little bit annoying to them to sleep in bed with their parents, but there shouldn’t really be an issue if it’s just a hotel stay.
As a former front desk worker, the number of things people do and level of entitlement people have is absolutely insane. I've been yelled at by someone walking into the front desk lobby and reserving a different hotel entirely and being mad that it wasn't the hotel i worked at. And i mean full blown meltdown. It's insane.
As someone who worked night audit at a hotel for a long time, I felt this girl’s situation in my soul. This shit happens so often, and is one of the reasons I’m so glad to have a job where I don’t have to appease idiot customers anymore. I want to send that girl so many virtual hugs and good vibes. She handled that shithead very gracefully and should be proud of herself.
As a hotel front desk employee, I relate to this so much. there were some days that were just absolutely miserable because of guests who would scream at me for mistakes THEY made while booking their room. Or the smallest inconvenience would make them go ballistic. I’ve dealt with people just like this way too many times. She handled this perfectly, it can be hard to keep your cool in situations like this. Unfortunately, entitled people don’t like to listen to logic.
I've worked in a big retail store, and I currently work retail pharmacy. I'm always very kind to people with concerns/issues, and if they're kind in return, I'll likely go out of my way to help them in some way. Then when it comes to people calling and instantly presenting an attitude, I do my best to de-escalate the situation. Most of the time they've never made a mistake, so we've wronged them somehow. My favorite part about that is being able to be super blunt with them. My pharmacy manager always has our backs and has banned people from our pharmacy chain for pissing us off. ANYWAY, so long as I had a good boss, I think I would enjoy a change in career paths.... sounds like hospitality work is for me.
Damn hearing y'all stories really made me realise how underappreciated customer service workers are. I have a hard time communicating with regular people let alone dealing with assholes all the time. Thank you all so much for what you do :)
For real. I surprised this is going viral just because I dealt with people like this on a weekly basis as a hotel receptionist. People pull this shit all the time. She handled it better than I would. I would more often than not give them the free upgrade because I sure wasn’t getting paid enough to be yelled at lol
these people had parents that acted like that and those kids will probably act the same, kinds tend to be influenced by parents like this seeing it happen all the time as they grow they feel this is normal behavior in general and act the same.
Ideally the internet will have raised his kids to be decent (seeing as hes obviously too busy wasting customer service workers time to actually associate with his children)
@@thecanadakid7622 Nah, they might not be lost to the abyss just yet. My dad was like this when I was a kid. I was mortified and always apologized to the receptionists for him. It's genuinely one of the most embarassing things to be a kid and witness your parents be mindless assholes, unfortunately forced to tag along, now known as an extension of their leeching existence.
My dad pays huge respect to essential workers and I always wanna follow his footsteps. Like the pizza delivery guy who was literally burning and thirsty under the heat of the sun. When my order arrived, I offered him two bottles of cold water and a tip. He was almost tearing up for his gratefulness
The abuse hotel employees deal with is ridiculous. And the sad thing is usually management will take the side of the guest since we in the “hospitality” field. I remember one a guest thought it would be funny to fill the entire bathtub up with water after break 3 glass bottles in the tub. It’s a nightmare.
The absolute worst thing is when you go through all this shit just for management to not only take the guests side, but actively reward this behaviour. My management loved to upgrade or refund any guests who harassed staff enough.
Same thing in nursing. If a patient decides to threaten us and get aggressive with us we can’t really fight back. Even if we just push them back and they sustain an injury it could very well be a lawsuit and the hospital would likely much rather sack the nurse instead of pay that kind of money. I’m just a student nurse now but it makes me afraid of my future.
And the pay is not even as good as people think it is... it's no different from working in retail, but I would argue schedules in general are worse Source: I had and still have family working there
What pisses me off is how they say 4 people (2 adults 2 kids) can't sleep on a queen size and pull out couch. My family, 3 kids 2 adults, were able to all fit on 1 queen size bed, and 1 pull out couch. And we lived.
I have two younger sisters, so I always ended up sleeping on the floor. Oh, no, what a travesty, my innocence was stolen and the world will never be the same. 🙄
What makes this worse is that it was actually a king size bed and a pull out couch. A king size bed can fit two adults and a kid or two if they’re small enough, and if one doesn’t want to sleep with the parent they can have the pull out couch. Easy solution. My family has done it a few times over vacation, and when I was a kid my parents had a king size bed. So there were plenty of times when I slept in their room after having a bad dream.
@@allisonbright7472 Me and my boyfriend are both in our 20s with a daughter who turns 5 in april, us and my cat all sleep on a queen bed without any issue so they could 100% fit 4 people on a king+pull out couch
I love the 'we survived' touch 😂 I think this guy is too pretentious to use a pull out bed. I question as to why as they can be pretty comfortable and all I can come up with is that they are too lowly and below them, it's king/queen size bed or nothing.
I'm a GM at a hotel and people do this stuff all the time. You have to have a lot of patience to work front desk at a hotel. Kudos to her. I would hire her.
And support her. Nothing is worse than following the guidelines set forth by management and then at the first difficult customer, the manager folds like a crumpled tissue, making you look incompetent and them look like a weak pushover. If your employee is actually wrong, that's fine, but otherwise, managers need to have their employee's back.
I worked in hotels for almost 9 years and this is common. Usually 2 queen beds cost more money, so they place a single bed and they think they can change the rooms without paying.
Charlie, as a front desk agent I thank you for showing us some attention and respect. And to all my fellow front desk agents and hotel workers, keep doing what you do best.
The hotels I work at have one central reservations for three properties to help alleviate some of what the desk has to deal with since they are face to face. It’s much easier on them to say “oh here is the number for central reservations they book the rooms” and have the guest go outside and scream at us on the phone instead. It’s easier on us because we can just let them go and then explain the situation without them being able to see if we are flustered and then feeding off of it
This is the same kind of guy that will leave bad reviews on every possible site he can and call out the “front desk lady” in his little write up. God bless that hero that briefly stepped in. Sounds like the guy was holding up a line and the hero had every right to step in so he can check into the room he reserved already
"What do you mean what do you expect us to do? She expects you to go fuck yourself" 🤣 Charlie has just perfectly annotated what goes through the mind of every abused service person ever
As someone who use to work in the hotel industry this is pretty common and almost an everyday thing. Most people are super cool and really easy going but there's usually always one or two entitled people a day that tried to do anything to get what they wanted. Was always a great time to argue with them with a smile on my face as I turn them away which made them even more angry. Very satisfying.
Yeah an angry german did this when he wanted to check in late at night, and I was working completely alone as a temp in summer. I didn't have the authority to change his room, but he scared me into it. His wife was just quiet and looked sad, and she was forced to carry all the heavy luggage up the strairs while he sat in the lobby drinking champagne he managed to get from the restaurant staff that had quit work, but before they had managed to go home.
I used to work front desk and right now I am working as customer care for small e-shop with clothes...if someone is really rude or vulgar I just make sure they can hear I am smiling on the phone and always end with have a great day or something like that...I honestly think that these jobs made me dead inside
That employee was absolutely unflappable, they were awesome. That 'guest' tried to bully and BS the wrong person. I also love the random person chiming in - Like dude, come on, you got two beds for four people and the place is booked.
Hearing Charlie stand up for this gal, as many others are, is SO refreshing. You start working in customer service and you sometimes start to think that YOU are crazy or you are at fault for how some of these other people behave. But then the moment I'm in the other persons shoes it's obvious. That dude's at fault for sure, but I've had moments like this I've walked away feeling guilty for no reason. It's nice to watch everyone ripping into this guy. So refreshing.
This girl is such an attention seeking actress. Why is she posting this online and think she is being so kind and gentle. It’s your JOB, STOP filming without customer’s consent!!! Really hope she is fired.
I'm a manager for a large brand hotel and this is one of many scam tactics that guests will attempt to hustle. Almost all these methods rely on trying to bully the front desk staff using aggression and guilt to get what they want. On top of that it can add pressure to the associate to just do what they want as the employee might have other guests in line. This then can annoy the other guests which they could take out on the associate as well. She handled it perfectly though. Guys like this are unfortunately probably weekly occurrence for her. I wish i could be around everytime someone like this attempts it for a employees as I try to shut it down as fast as possible. Give them the option to take the room or leave. Employees deal with far to often I'd rather deal with the aftermath of these guys making complaints to corporate. Good on the bystander for stepping in to help this girl.
Well have a fuckin policy about it and put an end to it. Give your team the authority to tell them to fuck off "fuck off" meaning polite this is the way it is good day sir
@@SM-nz9ff We can't change "insert big brand"s policies. We have to follow what they set for us. HOWEVER. i have given them permission to do what they think is best and will back them up and take the aftermath on myself. which usually comes as corporate complaints that the guests have Karened there way up the chain to get which can affect associates in a number of ways.
I used to work at a four star hotel as a receptionist (And later as a night auditor) and this type of guest is something I used to have for breakfast. The amount of times I was met with families who tried to scam, squeeze in other family members/friends, and con their way in is baffling. They do the whole "We have kids, what are we supposed to do" and once that doesn't work out they go full ballistic. I've been physically threatened lots of times, but thankfully I was never truly harmed. It was a common occurrence, as crazy as it sounds. Nowadays I work at an airport, and as hectic and chaotic as it gets, it still doesn't beat the insanity of hotels. The crazy idiots I have to deal with for a few hours at the airport are the same crazy fools a poor soul has to deal for days, weeks, and sometimes even months staying at the place you work.
Another one that i've seen happening recently is that third party sites (third parties causing reservation problems? never...) have this weird sorta hotel roulette where you just put in how many guests and the area and it gives you a random room that can sleep your amount of guests at a random hotel in the area, and the guests can never process that we have no control over it and the third party sites charge them separately Nothing makes you quite as inhospitable as working hospitality, and also fuck third party booking sites
how are we supposed to fit 4 people into that room? her honest reply should be "i fail to see how any of that is my problem". Imagine thinking your hotel is required to provide u with a better room just because you deem your room is too small, maybe book a bigger room next time, genius.
I feel for them but not for the embarrassment. Probably the dad is a proud asshole and will tell them it's the hotel fault and that he made no mistake nor scam. Poor kids to have that arrogant SoB as a father figure.
I work at a Holiday Inn as a front desk employee. If we alter reservations from third parties without the third party's consent the hotel is penalized. This guy was likely trying to make a big stink to get a free upgrade, it happens to my hotel pretty often. She was extremely professional, I would have dropped the nice employee facade way earlier than that.
I worked many years as customer support and tech support. Dealing with people like this takes its toll on you and you go home feeling like shit. At the end of the day I got tired of feeling abused and ended up quitting many jobs because it felt like I was their personal punching bag.
I've worked at a hotel front desk for about a year now, and I can't count the number of times this exact thing happens. like, yes, you figured me out, random guy named Jon from butfuck, Kentucky. I had a personal vendetta against you. I hired 100 paid actors to pretend to sell out the entire damn hotel. you caught me.

That's just how working with the public is, it feels like. When I worked in fast food, it was like that, they'd scream and stamp their feet and usually get their way, cause it's just easier than dealing with jerks like this, I suppose.
Well to be fair you sometimes get super shit rooms and a change is pretty fair imo.
i worked in costumer support (on the phone) and they told me if the customer starts screaming or swearing at me it's 100% my right to hang up on them. it should be the same in face to face service as well - if they cause issues you should have the right to cancel their reservation (or deny service or whatever) just like in the video.
and then you have people that makes videos on youtube about asking discounts at places

We just awkwardly stand there for a bit before I ask her if she is ready to pay, to which she responds, “There ya go, buddy.” It took everything in me to not throw food at her 😂
Honestly, huge props to the women for handling the situation so well. She explained the situation clearly, gave the man the exact options he has available to him, and remained calm throughout it all.

There have even been people angry wanting close their account out because they had no ID for their transaction and its hilarious because we need that ID to close it out. I have only made an exception for that once and it was because they were very well known.

She deserves a higher position. She handled this situation so well. She's the perfect definition of calm and collected. At this point I would have thrown a brick at this guy and told him that his problems are not mine, he f*cked up and should deal with it. There are so many insults I would have fed him. Charlie send this guy to South Africa, we'll deal with him easy. We'll make him question his life choices.

As a hotel overnight front desk agent, third party booking is absolutely the worst. I can't tell you how many times over the last four years in this industry I've been faced with this exact situation. She handled this exactly how she should have, but unfortunately won't receive any gratitude beyond 'good job' because there's plenty more assholes just like this coming right through the door. Just another day in paradise.
I'm starting to realize I'm a good hotel costumer, I don't even speak to the employees unless it's absolutely necessary, and I say thank you.
Overnights see a lot of crazy things lol
I never knew how much people wine and complain at hotels until I started working night audit some people strat freaking out over nothing or something they screwed up
This girl is far more patient than I would ever be
I just can't understand what part of "pull-out couch" that man wasn't comprehending.

In her position (which I've been in before many times) I would've flat out told him his options. Either he takes the room or he cancels it. Period. If he keeps arguing then I would've told the man I'm not dealing with him anymore and to talk to someone else.

After being a night auditor I gave up on customer service jobs altogether. You really see the worst of people working nights in customer service

People seem to think that hotels will bend to whatever it is you want, like they work just for you. It’s insane.
I got yelled at because the room was out of tissues
As someone who works alone building stuff, I can’t relate
Bruh imagine how embarrassed you would be when you see your dad attempt to scam a hotel and try to intimidate some poor girl who’s just doing her job
these people had parents that acted like that and those kids will probably act the same, kinds tend to be influenced by parents like this seeing it happen all the time as they grow they feel this is normal behavior in general and act the same.

@@RayFlemming7080 And even when mgt was on my side, corporate would make us apologize to the customer...even if they were wrong.

@@RayFlemming7080 100% management policies like this are why the guy in the video tried this stupid grift in the first place.
Its because you are a decent human being with his brain on the right place. Unlike the tard in the vid
That sucks these people must be assholes
would you hire me, I would clean up that guy's blood after I beat him to a bloody pulp right there in the foyer.
You forgot to mention how there are always extra rooms.
@@TownsInsider Not when the guest is being an asshole. Not all business is good business and some customers aren't worth the money.

There need to be more people like you in the service industry. Getting a smug smiley response must really infuriate these a-holes!

The crazy idiots I have to deal with for a few hours at the airport are the same crazy fools a poor soul has to deal for days, weeks, and sometimes even months staying at the place you work.
Another one that i've seen happening recently is that third party sites (third parties causing reservation problems? never...) have this weird sorta hotel roulette where you just put in how many guests and the area and it gives you a random room that can sleep your amount of guests at a random hotel in the area, and the guests can never process that we have no control over it and the third party sites charge them separately
