That smart extrude is something I've been wanting in maya for yearssss. In the days of Google sketchup this was the standard (albeit not as topologically smart) and always missed having such basic and useful feature.
Maya is starts to improve on the field of modelling it is closing up the gap to Houdini and its nearly there. (unfortunately the Maya indie license is still 2× as expensive as Houdini indie)

Yo that smart extrude is crazy. As well as the bevel boolean. I work in airforce virtual reality creation as a modeler and theres sooo many ridiculous aircraft parts that look insane and require booleans or quad drawing off of a 3d scan.
Pretty sweet lineup this year, you just love to see it. If it's stable enough, it may even get me to upgrade from Maya 2022. I guess we'll see. I've had a lot of issues with 2023 and 2024. Smart extrude is one of those features that should have been in Maya a very long time ago, and as someone who's still relatively new to 3D modelling, that's exactly how I would expect it to work, but quickly learnt that it doesn't.
are you able to make animations using nCloth or using dynamics with maya 2025? i can't. maya only renders the first frame for the whole sequence. im using arnold. Any advice? i called autodesk and they haven't figured it out either. :( so frustrating.
Looking very handy :) Cannot wait to try the smart extrude (that's been such a pain...) Bevels... I don't know... I like to have full control of bevels, but for some less important assets it will speed up the process.
@@jlmussi but can export to polygons at any resolution and with working topology that can be tweaked in poly modelling. But if all quad topology is your love then you should stay away from it. I don't know why people always want quad even if it is not meant for deformation and destruction physics.
@@MartyRxMurdeRz the reply is necessary because for hard surface, i think the whole industry is wasting its time on its primitive thinking "All quads" that is not true as per current technology because at the end only final shading of the model matters which works for 90% times when you are not going for deformation/physics on it, for that you can always retoplogise your model either automatic or manual and that will give you better control over your previously built toplogy while struggling for all quads as you have a complete shape on which you can retopologise easily with control over your edgeflow. Even the greatest master of 3ds max (Arrimus3d) hybrid his workflow to max+plasticity so why i shouldn't tell this to everyone. just see his youtube channel and you will know the mastery he get in HardSurface.

viewport - 10 years old, any improvements. shader graph editor - 20 years old, any improvements. ui - still very bugy and the same for 10 years. UV - RizomUV soo much better. smart extrude should be introduced 5 years ago, nowdays every program have it. very very bad autodesk, as always
@@MrAsag indie is cheap shader graph - you have lookdevX now UVs - besides Rizom compared to all other dccs it's the best Viewport what do you want exactly? they did lots of stuff on the viewport for performance which is the most important

Blender isn't Heavy duty, it can't perform a Gargantuan amount of heavy load of over the top movie vfx. Maya had to make sure that everything will run smoothly in the worst case scenario, therefore everything is much more optimized for heavy duty. while Blender don't give a F about that, everything is implemented faster but sloppy and can easily crumble under heavy load once you work on over the top maxed out stuff, blender is useless, and you'll appreciate Maya more and more.

I have been using Blender as a modeler for the last four years, and I can tell that there are a lot of stuff that need improved. Unfortunately development of polymodeling in Blender is pretty much dead, at least for the last couple years.
@@andrewsmith4575 not true, test the new arnold gpu it's pretty much on pair with redshift now in rendering speed. Quite impressive actually, and much better result in term of lighting and accuracy. No more redshift for me now.

Having used Maya and Blender for a few years, I can just say that Maya sucks. It's funny how they are struggling to get up to date when they didn't put any effor a few years ago before blender 2.8.
Having used Maya and Blender for many years I would say that Blender is awesome and I love it, but I'd choose to work in Maya any day. I can get stuff done way faster in Maya. Use whatever works best for you.

awesome fast update thank you! Mine was probably the smart extrude because it now can act similar to Inventor or FreeCAD extrude/pad workflows.
We're not even 1/4th way into 2024. And maya is already in 2025...

Plasticity is best for hard surface modelling. It is completely a new way of working Polygon and Nurbs together.
Plasticity doesn't use polygons.

I have alot of issues with crashes, but they mostly happen when I am UV mapping. Is there any way to avoid this?

Maya needs a sculpt mode. Maybe mudbox inside
Maya does have a sculpt mode that is really underrated. It could be improved, but it's helped me out at reducing pinching on bad topology.
@@UtterUnit It are tools for mesh. With this tools are impossible to sculpt anything from scratch.
Maya's sculpt tools are decent. They aren't ZBrush but they're useable for small jobs.
