There is a social cohesion here that hardly exists nowhere, and everyone seems to know what is his role in the society. It's also a very corporate society, society is basically controlled by a few companies (keiretsu) like Toyota, Mitsibishi, Seven 11, Line and so on. I think it's maybe related to modern capitalism but here capitalism is pushed into its advanced form. And also I think living in Japan can have 2 faces: either you could be very happy; benefetting from all the good infrastructures, entertainment programs and facilities, or you can be very unhappy with your work, loneliness and the monotonous everyday life. Maybe this is why many people look sad in the metro and trains and there is such a high suicide rate. Also as a foreigner from Mongolia, I personally feel like Japanese people's respect culture is very centered on Japane people, and as long as they know you're a foreigner they don't give you the same respect as you were Japanese.
Mongolia's No.1 bank and international airport are both owned by Japan. This is a very strange arrangement, as no country would open up critical national infrastructure like banks and airports to foreign ownership. Even China has tried to own infrastructure in other countries, such as Africa, but only by lending construction loans and signing 99-year leases. In the event of a real crisis or need for foreign currency, Mongolia has no right to do so, as its core businesses are owned by Japan. I hope Mongolians realize their right to own the country's core infrastructure.

Mongolians and Japanese have a lot in common. I like to see the Japanese as the Mongols of the 20th century. They were the only Asian country to modernize its military and economy to carve out a massive empire in Asia. No other Asian country comes even close to Mongolia in such a comparison except for maybe some Turkic nations. But whereas Mongols used their empire to pillage and loot from others, Japan’s was almost an Asian crusade against Western colonial powers who had been occupying much of Asia for centuries. The natives of such colonies had not breathed free for as many as 300 years, in some cases, before the Japanese had liberated them. This is the noble nature of the Japanese which greatly distinguishes them from Mongols of the 13th century. They are also the most advanced Asian country by far due to their departure from China and adoption of Western culture during the late 1800’s. We Mongolians can learn a lot from Japan’s history, culture and people.

when i think about Japan and Mongolia, i think about all the Toyota Priuses. When i think about Japan in general, i have been there once, in Hachinohe, because someone i know moved there, it's a mixed picture. I do like their kindness and professionalism. Every corner was cleaned up and no rubbish lying around. The buildings are in good condition. They do not like foreigners, but seeing the limited space and how crammed everything already is, i can kinda understand it. They also don't want to fall ino the same trap as the U.S. or the E.U. lately. But i strongly dislike their anime and pop culture. I think of it as onboxious and teaching the wrong morals to upcoming generations. So many sexually disturbed single men because of anime and jpop idol fetish - often portraying minor females acting strange and unnatural. Japanese home goods are also very popular. Aside from that our government has a very healthy relationship with Japan, since Japanese are the 2nd best donor country in economy. Since WW2, Japanese had built very high quality industry and infrastructures in MOngolia. Among them Gobi Cashmere(The flagship retail industry in the country), the newest airport of Mongolia (Which costs over 1billion usd). Never seen Mongolians ever talk bad about Japan. Due to recent Yokozunas in Sumo, Mongolians also watch Sumo very often and some youngesters even consider to become a Sumo Wrestler. Even though they had invaded Mongolia during WW2, no one remembers it and hold a grudge against Japan. Japan and its people are truly the most trsutworth ally of Mongolia.
Nobody talks or cares about Japan invading Mongolia during WW2 because we won, that’s why. It was a Soviet-Mongolian victory over the Imperial Japanese army, there’s a Korean movie about it since I know Mongolians love to indulge in that, might as well learn a bit of history through that. Also, Japanese economic donations to Mongolia are just war reparations disguised as “financial assistance” to some poverty-stricken third-world country after the collapse of the USSR. These were the terms the new Mongolian government agreed to with Japan after many decades of disengagement during the Cold War. It bothers me that Mongolian politicians were so quick to besmirch the memory and valiance of Mongolian military war heroes in exchange for a bit of quick money. Pathetic.

WW2 was a dark age, where everyone involved committed to atrocities and massacre. But during wartime, technology makes fast progression. The japanese aircraft carriers were impressive. The Germans had impressive tech too, mostly their uboats, missiles and early computing devices. My wife is from the area around Severobaykalsk.
