Gaspard Ulliel was as Darkly Handsome as they come, & I'd go as far to say he is the EPITOME of Evilly Wicked Dark Handsomeness & his portrayal of Hannibal Lecter deserved WAAAY more recognition & awards that he ever received. He only won 1 award, the Cesar Award, for most promising actor; in 2005 for his performance as World War I soldier Manech in A Very Long Engagement. Hannibal Rising was nominated for the Raspberry Award for the worst prequel and worst excuse for a horror movie. I LOVE HORROR MOVIES , this is a good/great horror in its own right. After all that I've watched (in my late 60's now) the Hannibal movies are always compared to each other instead of being viewed apart & because of the comparison Hannibal Rising got bashed by critics - BUT many praised Gaspard Ulliels performance - guess so cuz he is EPIC. He'd go from being a good brother to a lover of his stepmom to a Malicious, Demented, Villainous, Depraved Reprobate. I've watched a few of his other performances and Lord, that man could act. Sad shame that he is gone far too soon.
Monsters aren't born, but there're people that are by default more prone to be them than others, because psychopathy(antisocial/personality disorders) are inherited and present since birth, nevertheless it doesn't become someone into a monster per se, if those disorders are controlled then every psychopath can have a normal life, the problem is when they don't get proper help and turn out being monsters, moreover, since Hannibal seemed to be when he was a child someone normal and with innocence and love to his family, I think he BECAME a sociopath, the difference is that sociopaths(socio=society) is a person that adopts psycho behaviors due to early traumas, that's what I think exactly happened to him.
