    So when I was studying art we were always told to never use black to "darken" colours and instead use a small amount of the other primary colours...
    So to deepen red try using a very small amount of blue (and yellow) to get the desired colour.
    the reason we were told not to use black is because black is a shade (as opposed to a colour) and using it to darken primary colours muddies/ reduces the vibrancy of the original colour.

    • @peterkelley6344
      @peterkelley6344 3 года назад +26

      Difference of opinion: Commercial Art late 1980's. We were told the inverse of what you suggest. Black to darken, and white to lighten.

    • @ChibiChula
      @ChibiChula 3 года назад +16

      ...That makes no sense to me. If you mix the primary colors, you get brown. I'm fairly sure that would muddy it up more than black. 😒

    • @FeetjeMagneetje
      @FeetjeMagneetje 3 года назад +66

      @@ChibiChula Black and white reduce the saturation of a colour, so white+red is pink, not a lighter red. Mixing a deeper red with yellow, and orange will lighten it, or even a bright green could do, without turning it pink. Same with darkening, use a deep brown, blue or green to make it darker. yes it will go brown-ish, but if you mix it properly you end up with a deeper darker red, without turning the saturation down with black.

    • @lucalh
      @lucalh 2 года назад +18

      @@ChibiChula You get brown when you have a similar proportion of the three primary colours but not quite the same. Especially if there is more yellow and magenta than cyan because well, brown is dark orange. If you mix the primary colours evenly you get black. Black and white store bought reduce the saturation as a side effect.

    For the spin part... you can buy a single-level "lazy susan" for that, and place your "catcher" on top of it. I'd suggest something a bit sturdy, perhaps a storage box that isn't too deep, placing Velcro on top of the lazy susan and the bottom center of the storage box, so the box won't spin off the top of the lazy susan if you give it a bit too much spin force.
    Really do enjoy your videos! It really makes them more interesting, having at least two people conversing with each other as you debate merits and faults of the things you're reviewing.

      I agree, and it's so refreshing to see such a natural and effortless dynamic between a couple here on RUclips, and actually in general.... I am so tired of constantly seeing couples and families who are acting so hard just to make everyone think they are the picture perfect example that everyone will ENVY , instead of just being themselves that everyone could RELATE to 🤷‍♀️?!? Then I personally feel it's like watching some amateur actors on a low budget reality/movie project. Because it's all about being bigger and better than others... 🤷‍♀️😬?!? And I personally like watching RUclips because I like more of the natural or what I can relate to "if that makes any sense" 🙈?!? If I want to watch things I can't relate to, I can watch real housewiwes of Beverly hills or something else with professional actors and high quality/budget on Netflix 😬 I am sorry if someone reading this gets offended , but I am often embarrassed over so many RUclipsr's who act like and think they are greater than everyone, and some famous super star 🙈😂 I get its probably different in other countries perhaps?!? But I struggle to believe it's so much different than here in Norway. Here we live and breathe the same air side by side famous or not,and walking the same streets or shopping at the same grocery stores ect... but OFC we also have crazy people/stalkers in Norway. We have a good and rich side of the town or the bad side with working class/middle class ect because nobody should be so poor they are homeless in Norway " legally" even though some few people deny any help or want to live outside.... They are so few I personally ink most in the main city of Norway knows them by name... Anyways enough of me ranting away here 🙏🙈 I just mainly wanted to agree with your statement about K&E 😬.

    Regarding leveling the work bench - see if you can buy (or, maybe, get some off of old appliances) some leveling feet. You might have to add a bit of wood here and there under the lower shelf so the bench is 100% level, but then you add the leveling feet (maybe four each) on the front and back sides of the table. That way you can just level the bench out via the feet wherever you place your bench. A lot cheaper and (definitely) easier than trying to level the shop floor. // Instead of actual aprons - get some cheap-ish rain coats - cut off the hood, add ties so you can tie it in back and just wear them backwards. If the coats are white, tape the ties in place with white duck tape. The longer the rain coat the better.

    Dollar Tree has small canvases like that. They're 3/$1. But better quality in that they're wrapped canvas. They cone in various sizes.
    Plus each paint bottle by crayola is $1. Or buy the bigger bottle with 4x as much.
    You can use tempera & water. Or buy acrylic with DT's pouring medium there.
    Then just get some cardboard boxes from the dumpster with high sides & let the kids manually spin it.
    You can also get mini cups to hold paint in the party section.

    Not 100% sure, but the number on the yellow box is probably an internal kit number/box part number. It would organize their product kits so if 2 activity kits use the same paints, they could reuse the "part" in making multiple kits. That might also be why they tell you to add the water - because if its used in multiple kits, not all kits call for flow-acrylic. It all comes down to production cost most likely! (source, I'm a packaging designer! (not for Crayola, though))

    12:25 When I paint my 3D prints I spray some primer on, then I mix acrylic paint with water to thin it. I have to do an extra coat of paint but it leaves no brush strokes.

    If you sliiiiightly torch the acrylic at the end it will pop the bubbles! Otherwise the bubbles create pinholes in the finished/dried painting!
    Also, the spin technique usually happens after you pour the paint on the canvas... not spin while pouring.
    Love watching your content! 😍🥰

    Gentle heating with a hairdryer or heat gun pops air bubbles, and makes the silicone bubbles grow.

      Science adjacent part two: paint tends to contract when drying (esp. acrylic that is basically dehydrating plastic), so it causes the bound paint to pull on the surface in different places :D

    The trick with metallic paints for pouring is that you need to make them thicker than your other paints, otherwise they'll just sink to the bottom and you'll never see them

    We did the Crayola Pour Art kits last week. It actually got a tiny bit of cells! Spinning wasn’t very good and the canvas curled when dried. It took a long time to dry, but maybe because I didn’t dilute the paint, because I didn’t read the instructions! Oops. The smell is just like all the Crayola paint. They had fun and the sets were gifts. Haha

    the reason those require prep is that is two of their exact same 'washable acrylic' sort of fingerpaint set just repacked for that kit. So they want you to add water because they're water soluble in order to thin them to pour, but it's a lot cheaper to just reuse a different line with just some super cheap plastic extras in the box.

    That third bright green one looks like a Electric Ethereal Deer! You have the bright white in the upper right that zig zags down is the antlers, then a open mouth face with eye and nose! Then the galloping deer body, with swirly space flowing off it.
    You should do cloud watching flow acrylics, like when you look at clouds and go that looks like a bunny, that looks like a cat, etc. Basically do a bunch of random flows, let them dry and then come back with a sharpie for permanent, or put a piece of plastic or glass over it and use whiteboard markers to outline things you see "in the clouds".

    They do make small, square canvases that would fit this contraption. Crayola could easily put them into the kit in packs of 4 or 6, include more sticks for stirring, or small medicine cups that are marked. It wouldn't have to add to the price of the kit, or just buy your own pieces at the dollar stores and spend less.
