I am a mechanical engineer and I worked for the palm oil industry, I don't know how they source it specifically but I can speak for my experience. Palm oil extraction is a very polluting process, HOWEVER, the company I worked for, for example, had developed a patented technology that spent less energy, less water and produced less waste. Around the time I left, the founder was also working on a new thing which was taking the palm fruit waste and turning it into a paste kinda similar to chocolate (in texture) that could be used as cattle feed to make it into useful bio product. These type of plants were being installed in different places in Colombia (where the company is), other countries in Latin America, and Malaysia. It can never be 100% sustainable, nothing is, but it was a technology that is a lot less damaging than typical palm oil extraction machinery, for the same production capacity. So it is possible, to an extent.
that would costs a lot more then cheaper palm oil in africa, the only reason any company would be using palm oil is because its way cheaper than the alternatives. also the industry is known for not having a real check for the "sustainable" label, mfs would just bribe the people in charge of giving the label. wonder how after every new eu law saying you need to have the "sustainable " label on various products, suddenly the industry finds metric tons of "sustainable palm oil"

It's rare that a subject that comes up on the pod is something I have expertise in 😂 Basically Poki's people probably use vendors with RSPO certification.

Might want to think twice and reconsider about her after what happened with her trying to sell her own way too expensive brand cookies. She got called out for rebranding an existing cookies and upped the price because she claims it is heathier version from its previous iteration when in reality it is mostly the same ingredients but expensive.

this is the best podcast to have as background noise as someone w adhd. i like the people and vibe enough that it's engaging, but i dont really care what they're talking about (just very casual and disjointed, meandering anecdotes) so it doesn’t really pull my attention to be a distraction.
edit to add, bc i like to compare: to compare with the yard, which i actively listen to, Fear& is like zoning out with a group of chatty friends, while the yard feels like four friends doing an hour long bit.
