Oh yeah, this stuff is delicious!
I've been to Lancaster county Pa.

My first time having ham balls they were delicious. I think you have the same concept just different form .
I'm going to give it a try thank you very much.❤️
Oh yes, been to Shady Maple! LOL! Ham balls are a little different, but not tons. I'll do a vid on them as well closer to the holidays. Thank you!
My Fave Hamloaf:
For the Loaf:
2 lbs ground ham
1 1/2 lbs ground beef
1/2 lb ground pork sausage
2 c ground graham crackers (or 1 cup soda and 1 cup graham crackers)
1 1/2 c milk (or 1/2 cup ham juice and 1 cup milk)
1 finely chopped onion
1 finely chopped red bell pepper
1 finely chopped green bell pepper
For the Sauce:
1 can tomato soup
1/2 c cider vinegar
1 T. dry mustard
1 c brown sugar
Combine loaf ingredients with your hands. Can omit the onion and peppers if desired. Shape into a loaf onto a master roaster or bread pans. Combine sauce ingredients and pour over the top of the loaf. Cover and bake at 350*F for 2 hours. Uncover the remaining last 30 minutes of the cook. Makes 12 or more servings. Reheats well. Good for sandwiches. Pairs well with potatoes and steamed vegetables.
Sounds good! Thank yoU!
Pressing it in the cast iron skillet & then adding the glaze is brilliant! Thanks for sharing this!
You are so welcome!
Hi Helga, nice to meet you. I've been watching your channel for just a short time, but I really enjoy it. I was born n raised in SW PA so you feel like home to me. I moved to TX when was married at 19 and always go back to PA to be with my family. Thanks for sharing with us. Gloria

I think so, too! Thank you!
Happy Thanksgiving Helga and husband 🍁🍂🦃🍂🍁
I just picked some up from a local butcher here in NE Indiana. Plenty of Dutch/Germans around here including myself lol
This is a great idea! and I even thought about doing it in cast iron, so this is perfect and looks amazing.
You won't be sorry!
Shady maple ham loaf mix is good!!! I buy the seasoned or the unseasoned. I put some ground cloves in mine and sometimes use a jarred ham glaze when in a pinch. I am going to have to try your recipe!!
Shady Maple is good stuff! Have you eaten at Shady Maple? Wowzer! Thank you!
The ends were always the best part. The round cast iron really solves that problem!
LOL, I agree! Thank you!
Oh wow! Looks fantastic, but then again, everything you cook for us lools fantastic!!
Hope your family has a wonderful Thanksgiving!!
Thanks, Dee! Your's was looking very good!
My Mom used to buy ham loaf in aluminum tins and I loved it, I don't find it, so I am going to try this, looks delicious Helga.
Yes, we have that around here. But this is a great recipe, I'm sure you'll love it! Thank you!
Never saw this before. Thank you for the great Cast Iron Wednesday recipe and shout-out, Helga
Thanks, Sean!
Helga that glaze looks AMAZING!!! Thanks for making this video...love the cast iron idea, too!
Thanks, COCO!
Oh boy howdy that's looks absolutely amazingly mouthwatering delicious and yummy. Happy Thanksgiving to you and your family Helga
Thank you and Happy Thanksgiving!
I like crushed pineapple in mine
I do too, but sadly, my other half does not, LOL.
Hey Helga
Never had Ham Loaf until about 15 years ago..HATED it, BUT, yours looks good. Since my stroke, my tastes have changed, I might have to give it another small taste? Thank you. Do you have just a plain old Potato soup and rivel recipe? I don't really eat meat anymore. I like it, I just can't eat it. looong story :+((((
Happy Thanksgiving.
God bless:
Dave
This got hung up in YT land! This is what i usually make when ,making potato soup. ruclips.net/video/0zU4RcNgBqI/видео.html
I made this today, had to grind ham in my food processor and mix with ground pork. Came out great! Thanks Helga.
Yay, so glad you liked it! Thank you!
I love this! Used to live in Ohio, so could buy ham loaf mix and pre-made ham loaf at our butcher's. Sadly, here in Oklahoma, no such thing. So I make my own. Never thought of doing it in a CI skillet, will definitely try it that way!
Thank you! It cooks faster and more evenly in the skillet, I've found!
I would love to try this. I have never seen ground ham in our stores. Ground pork is even hard to find. If you grind it yourself do you use cooked ham or uncooked?
I use uncooked. It can dry out if you use cooked.
@@PennsylvaniacookingBlogspot , I do not recall ever seeing a uncooked ham.
Never heard of it either! Wow...I’ll be making this...thanks!!💗🎄🎅🏻🤶🏻
It's really yummy!
Can't beat that for leftovers Helga. Wow
Yup, mike made sammiches with them! Thank you!
Do you have to use Brown sugar. We do not like it because of the sweetness and diabetic.
I use canned crushed pineapple with no added sweeteners. If you use an actual pineapple, the core has more sugars.
As stated by Gary below, you can use pineapple or even stevia.
Mmmm! I have a ham loaf recipe from my grandma that my family likes. I make it with either thanksgiving or Christmas dinner. But yours looks really good too, especially in the cast iron pan And with that glaze! We love our cast irons around here, so I'm for sure going to try it out! Thanks Helga!
Everyone has their favorite recipe but this is hard to beat!
Boy that looks delicious 😋
I have friends who make it and each have a different recipe but all are delicious. One of my favorite meals
Yes, recipes vary for sure, I make it the way "I" like it, LOL! thank you!
Helga's Pennsylvania Cooking that’s the only way to make it 😉👍🏻
Looks fabulous Helga. I wish I were there.
Thank you!
There are as many different types of ham as there are sausages so what did you use in yours if I may ask?
Hi Helga, I've heard of ham loaf but never had it, it looks delicious I am going to have to try it.
You gotta try it, it's excellent!
Cant wait to try this!
Hope you like it!
Hey good to see yah.
Excellent recipe & Directions.
I have had this in the nearby Mennonite community/town and for dinner at my Oma's house years ago.
Thanks, glad you liked it!
Oh my I can taste it thru the screen !!! Looks sooooo yummy . Is it just smoked ham ground real good like in a food processor or ......
Yup, just smoked ham ground up. I get it like that from the butcher, like hamburger, but you can do it in a food processor, too. Make sure the meat if well chilled, chops better.
Oh yeah !!! Yum
Thanks, BV!
Great video Helga, never seen this before here in the UK.
I've honestly not seen it outside of our region! But darn glad we have it, lol! Thank you!
I've never heard of ham loaf until yesterday when someone mentioned it on another video. I might have to add this to my "things to make" list.
We love it! I hope you give it a try!
This looks great Helga. We have a big ol' ham that we are going to cook. I know there will be lots of left overs. We will have to give this a try. Love the glaze you put on this.
Thanks, Billy, the glaze definitely takes it up a notch.
Great timing! I have the ingredients for my Grandmother’s Ham Loaf and your recipe is very close. I like the idea of using the cast iron! Have a great Thanksgiving!
Thanks so much and Happy Thanksgiving!
Never seen this before but I love it! That sweet mustard sauce has to be delicious! I'm going to give this a shot on the grill! Happen Thanksgiving to you and your family Helga!
That would be awesome on the grill! Thank you!
When I lived in Ohio ham balls & ham loaf were a big deal. I have lived in Texas for over 40 years & the people down here don't know anything about that.
If an Amish family opened a buffet in the Houston area they would be millionaires within 1-2 years.
Jeez, maybe that should be my new retirement plan, LOL! Those poor people don't know what they're missing!
@@PennsylvaniacookingBlogspot I remember the Amish buffets in Ohio & if they opened one in Texas they could retire in a year (2 years max).
I have never seen this before, but it looked awesome and I know I would love it with that basting sauce. Hope you have a great Thanksgiving !
Thanks, Ron, it's different I guess, but very yummy! Happy thanksgiving to you and Paivi!
Big lk👍👍👍😉😍
My new dear friend🙏👏
It wold be hard for me to "let it rest". I want it now! : )
LOL, let it rest, it saves the best!
What size cast iron pan is this?
