Similar to our but ours came from an Alabaman born in 1902 so it's as old. She used Graham cracker crumbs and popped the glaze over it half way through as well as reserving some for serving. She looked holes in the list so the glaze could soak in. I think this is what's for dinner soon. Thank you!
Oh, my, does this inspire me to make ham loaf again! I learned how back in the 1970s from great aunt Lora in Indiana. However, she was surprised that I'd never heard of it, and that I had to ask how to assemble it -- she could get it already mixed at the butcher's! Her sauce is simpler -- just brown sugar, vinegar, water, and dry mustard, basting the loaf while cooking. Thank you for sharing your cooking and weaving adventures.
Follow your inspiration! You are the chef, make the recipe in any way your chef inspiration takes you, it will be good no matter which individual personal twists you put into it. Thanks for your kind comment, it is good to hear that you like my videos.
Very similar to recipe I received from a friend. Meat base exactly the same but she liked to shape hers into small patties, placed a pineapple ring between two patties and made a thumbprint on the top patty to hold the sauce. Her sauce used pineapple juice rather than vinegar and she sometimes poured the sauce over all about half-way through the baking. Delicious! Thanks for reminding me about this recipe and my friend. PS she was also a wonderful weaver!
When I first had this years and years ago, as a little boy, I was not a weaver, but I am happy to hear that it is similar to a recipe from another weaver. There are so few of us today that we must stick together. Thank you so much for watching and commenting.
Absolutely delicious! Followed precisely your recipe for the loaf and the sauce - mmmm, good. We will be serving the sauce now anytime we bake a ham. Thanks for sharing.
Oh my Andy, that just took me back many years. Not just the ham loaf, which we love, but the mustard sauce was almost identical to the one my Mom put on a whole old fasioned skin on, bone in, ham. I haven't even seen a real ham like that in years. This loaf might just do the trick to bring back that old time flavor. Thanks!
Hi Terry, glad I could trigger a few memories for you. As I said, it is a very old favorite for me. Aren't Moms wonderful when the leave us memories that we can recreate.
This takes me back to weblows (Boy Scouts) and wooden recorders.😋 a long and wonderful time in my life! I am in your debt my friend! My wife is going to put this up for. Dinner tomorrow! I am smiling ear to ear! Thanks so much sir
I've got all the ingredients ready and am looking forward to making one of these loaves this weekend. The only change will be having my wife make her delicious sweet and tangy yellow mustard sauce which is always a big hit with our holiday spiral sliced hams.
I knew it was an old recipe, but to me it is only about 80 yrs old not the 150 or so that one thinks of the civil war. Thank you very much for taking the time to both watch and comment.
Lol, ok! My dad keeps asking for it. Thank you for posting it. I am making this today. He's from Ohio, I hope this is the kind he had as a kid. I have seen other recipes with different sauces but I'm going with this one. Fingers crossed!

I am stumped on what to use to grind the ham. I do not really need another small appliance

This is oh so tasty. I found a very similar recipe in a Civil War Cookbook, our family enjoys it very much.
