  • If you were to guess who is the couturier in the truest sense of the word, which name would you think of.
Balenciaga is the couturier who once gained compliments as “Master of Us All” by a fashion house founder, and “My Idol” by his peers.
From June to September 2019, the exhibition “Balenciaga and Spanish Painting” opened at the Museo Nacional Thyssen-Bornemisza in Madrid. This was the very first major exhibition in Madrid dedicated to Balenciaga in the past 50 years. You can not only enjoy some 90 haute couture garments designed by Balenciaga, but also get to enjoy more than 50 Spanish artworks from the most famed Spanish master painters. Among these, El Greco, Zurbarán and Goya had the greatest impact on Balenciaga.

Absolutely gorgeous documentary, I am almost unable to comment. It is so beautiful. I’m home, so I strive to make beautiful clothes for myself whenever I go anywhere. These are so inspirational. What is not inspirational is what the house of Balenciaga has been doing lately. I’m sure it is now well-known. I did not see a lot of it. I have read about it. I realize we in fashion move forward and try to make things that are current. But there is nothing current about bad taste. And design features and themes that are so far from the beauty that Balenciaga tried to create. No, we cannot go back and re-create those things, but we can create Art that speaks to the SOUL,! For both the wearer and the observer❣️ please let us know forget why we create it is to uplift us, and take us away from the mundane that we must toil in at times in order to create to begin with 🌹

@@ursulastaempfli759 Balenciaga said that when he died he would not leave any dress with his signature. Due to bad luck, he did not leave a will and his children did not respect his wishes and sold the company to whoever paid them better. However Balenciaga and his brand has been a great exponent of Spanish fashion and the man was incredible. The little respect they have shown for him and his brand since he died is a shame. But it doesnt change is still a spanish fashion brand.

@@blurryface_1589 Yes, but this always sounds to uninformed people as if he was still there, whereas infact there are only these parasites who ursurpated the name Balenciaga. Only the real and original Balenciaga dresses should be called Balenciaga. And don't say brand....designer yes, but not a brand. The concept of brand did not exist in Balenciaga 's life time. I hate all fashion brands. There is but bullshit to be seen on the runways these days. Fashion is dead.

The king is dead. When Women's Wear Daily ran this headline in March 1972
Christian Dior called him 'the master of us all.'
Coco Chanel said he alone was 'a couturier in the truest sense of the word… The others are simply fashion designers.'

Balenciaga was indeed the master. Did he ever claim his inspiration came from these paintings as described here or was this just a hook for this exhibition?

When I heard that narrator's colonial-era accent, I knew this was China. Modern fashion publications don't use museum-language anymore.

@4:26 "imperium"?!?! Is that a euphemism for 'imperialism', designed to soften the edges of the infamous cruelty of conquistadors?

The ones who were really cruel were the indigenous people who ate the hearts of the captured prisoners.
