And (re)discover the gracefulness of iconic haute couture designs - the virtuoso scenography recreating their sense of movement and the shows in which they were worn - as well as precious archival photographs, sketches by Monsieur Dior and his successors, previously unseen objects, accessories, paintings, a cabinet of curiosities conceived as a sweeping display of color, and much more. With the beauty of dreams more essential now than ever, fall under the spell of the wealth of enchanting treasures contained in the exhibition ‘Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams’.

    What I love about watching this film is that you can learn so much about each and every designer's history, as well as the lovely workers who have so much passion in what they do. All down to the seamstress who took their time to restore a lot of the pieces. This is incredible and inspiring to watch.

    I was delighted that they have uploaded this magnificent documentary about the laborious work that it takes to organize a Dior fashion exhibition and how they manage to reflect the creative spirit of the creator of their brand and their supporters, who have merged their personal style of design with that of the monsieur Dior. I can not fail to mention that one of the artistic directors that I liked the most, in his time who was working in the house and who was the most successful in the reinterpretation of the codes of this, was Raf Simons, he managed to modernize, while maintaining the essence of the firm and managing to create a new look that is much more credible and usable, for the modern woman of the new century. He was undoubtedly an modern creative and his sewing pieces reflect him, in his beauty, delicacy and luxury. This is nothing against what Maria Churi is doing today which is valuable, but in itself what she does is not very the essence that the founder Christian Dior established in his brand. Maria Grazia is very personal for her very Italian design and Dior is not Italian fashion, it is FRENCH fashion.

    Looking back, you can see Raf really understood the codes of the house. His pieces were so well-designed and executed and didn’t need gimmicks. That being said, I am also a fan of John, Gianfranco and Yves. They brought some excitement to the house and are true geniuses.

      When rad stepped in, he studied how Christian Dior really made clothes (That was in another documentary). That's why his designs really sticked to the Dior signature.

    • @MyVidStash
      @MyVidStash 4 года назад +12

      Gregory Tingley true Galiano has definitely changed direction. His work is rebellious and challenges our present ideas of couture, but I find that interesting. This attitude is also perfectly in line with the codes of his current house. He definitely can’t do the same at Dior. Also, on a different tangent, the dresses they picked at the start of this video are stunning and truly capture the spirit of Dior. Had to say it.

    In recent years Jhon Galliano and Raf Simons did an outstanding job, incredible.
    It seemed a bit sad to see the Galliano era being minimized, I think his work marks a before and after in the history of this fashion house. The first time I cried watching a fashion show was a haute couture by Jhon Galliano for Dior, the amount of beauty was simply incomprehensible.

    I saw this exhibit with my daughter and we were both astounded by the beauty. We both smiled at how the French women in particular muscled their way to park themselves in front to study each seam! That is okay.. He was their designer genius, as was YSL.

    What I've come to understand from this documentary is that fashion is a social project. Something that reflects, challenges, and celebrates different moments of time. In a way, it felt like a sort of archive to capture another aspect of the human spirit. The boxy and monotoned public dress code during times of war reflected how the political transformation and turmoils at the time had a general affective effect on people's hearts. Dior's fashion was a reactive refusal of the gloominess imposed by the times, and it worked to create a new sense of hope and joy to people. This example, as well as the numerous others discussed in this documentary showed and reminded us, in a way, that fashion is a social project.

    I want to be a fashion designer, and watching this is making me want to cry. It's beyond beautiful. Fashion is art, that is not painted on a canvas. Designers have the power to expresswhatever they want through their dresses. Whenerver I think my ideas are bizarre I see even bizarre but equally creative dress, and that's what makes me move forward. I know I would never become one, considering I have to financial support. But as long as I can keep on sketching my ideas on paper it's more than enough.

    the Musée des Arts Décoratifs is located next to the Musee du Louvre, the most north-western wing of the Palais du Louvre. It has permanat fashion exhibitions in addition to the special exhibition, I visited a a special exhibition in 2010, showcasing the 80's fashion, I think it was 12Euro. I love the fashion bookstore attached to this wing. Once a week, the museum open till 9pm, which is the best time to visit. One of the exit is next to the garden with a cafe, also perfect to just have a picnic on the garden bench looking at the Louvre & Eiffel Towel!
    This is such a good documentary for fashion lover.

    I can't @dior. Thank you, thank you for giving us a glimpse of the Apollonian glamor that your brand epitomizes! While all of us are confined in our houses, anxiously waiting for anything that will improve our condition; we are stripped out of our desires to dream and was forced to shift all our efforts to the basics of our existence, but yet you are there!! You are there shining ferociously amid the dark vastness of this desolate situation. This did not only give us hope, but that passion to continue dreaming uncontrollably, believing wickedly to ourselves.... that someday! Someday we will achieve what Dior has achieved
