      No, he isn’t an engineer or parts production team. He is the assembler. You are talking like he made it from the ground up. Matter a fact, it’s mostly machines including applying the torque specs. All he did was probably put bearings, and move parts as well as move the torque applying arms.

      They were built by different workers lol. There’s a tag near the fuel rail with their name.

      it was from a bad batch of valvetrain parts from their supplier that made ls7s drop valves. not all ls7s are afflicted with this valve problem

      @@kev.s5104 the valves come in contact with the pistons and usually get bent or blow a hole through a piston

      ​@@heathkill4821 That's not what happens. The valve guides are the actual issue. There's fraction causing the exhaust valve to wear excessively. As a result they will break and fall into the burning chamber causing the engine to go boom.

      @@3O2MuStAnGvalve drop is valve drop no matter how it drops it drops😋 i know the guides go out and it eats the pieces, it also eats the valve hence the name valve drop.

      @@heathkill4821 Hopefully a head swap gets the issue solved because I'm planning to get me a Z06 either this or next year if things go as planned. The valve nightmare aint stopping me. 🫣

    There are several people that built the LS7s and each has their names individually stamped on an engine plate.
    The value issue was due to incorrect machining of the value guides not the valves themselves

      Everything I've seen is its a valve issue and the titanium is strong and very light but not wear resistant..

      @TripleAstyle1 It becomes a valve problem after its worn unevenly due to the bad guide. Not to mention the exhaust valve stems are hollow core. I replaced mine with all stainless steel

    I love big ol American v8s, that being said the builders must have been pretty lazy, or someone fucked up at qc because the only reason these engines throw valves sometimes is because the clearance on rhe valve stems were all fucked up

      The entire cylinder head casting is complete junk.
      Cracked/broken off pedestal mounts, dropped seats, dropped valves. Just a bad design

      Research is showing the titanium valves are hard to get in tolerance and wear fast thus going out of tolerance.... essentially junk.

      @@abdullahmansoor1199 I guess there was a design “flaw/overlook” that milled the valve guides to rock and fail. That’s off memory so do fact check me

    Love my LS7. Accepted the risk and had the issues addressed. Still, it can be an issue. But, this was my dream car and life is short.

    They were actually hand built in Bowling Green Kentucky, engine plant right next to Corvette production facility.

    Call me country or old fashioned, but I would like to have a cast iron variant.
    Done some work on a ls1 recently and ended up putting steel inserts in every single bolt hole because half of them were stripped just from unbolting.

    You just have to figure on immediately fixing the heads on an LS7. I bought an LS3 and may sc it .

      Has anyone heard what the root cause of failure is? Is it a sodium filled valve naking the metal thin? The valve keepers digging into the valve causing failure? Spring tension causing valve instability or too hard of closing? The use of titanium that (supposedly) does not like brake parts cleaner? Or a mix of these and other possibilities?

    Greatest engine of all time. It’s great at all RPMs and incredibly cost effective and fuel efficient for its massive displacement. Just don’t forget to “fix” the heads

    I’d love to put a 7L in every Chevy I own except for my 90’ barn door burb. He’s getting a 8.1L and a 5 speed manual plus a NP205 with a magnum box. Can you say torque for days!!!

      All you have to do is get the valves and valve guides replaced and it's not an issue anymore.

      @@cc23001 Guy picked up brand new vehicle, got ride home with truck. One way back to dealership, engine exploded. Fact. Not a joke... Less than 300 miles on the 2023 vehicle. Any more "over dramatic thoughts" rolling around in your empty skull?

    My favorite corvette is the C6 Z06, but those valve problems are always a reminder to not buy one.

    Don’t forget the fact you need to spend thousands on entirely aftermarket head castings to not grenade the engine. Fixed OEM heads still fail just as badly. Some in as little as 1500-3000 miles as some have found out.

    I've always found the valve covers to be hideous, but I guess it does not matter simce they serve their purpose

      Valve and rods can both be issues. Titanium is abrasive.

    It's to bad GM didn't use this engine in their truck applications... it would be a great engine. With direct fuel injection.

      I agree. Lots of discussion on valve drop in the comment section. I wish there was a way to know the exact # of engines affected to date. I just forget about it, accept the risk and drive it. Life is short.

    If gm would have followed motown blocks and focused on head design the gen 1 block would be stronger lasting longer and easily modified but gm chose to electrify there v8 disaster.

      @@cc23001 Well Genius, the exhaust stem separates, falling yet incredibly rare on a stick engine, about 1.6% of them fail, more common on modded cars. Now would YOU buy a used ZO6 and not have the Potential issue fixed Genius? You know nothing about my career path or my knowledge so.....

    All of that just for some dumb quality error in the making of the valves. Why would you not pay attention to every tolerance SPECIALLY when the parts deal with the heart of the motor.

    AHHHHH!!!!!!!!! Ancient POS pushrods. WTF WTF!!!! Use DOHC , like Europeans. Use that huge V valley for twin turbos or superchargers. I like 11:1 compression.. Use titanium pistons to increase redline to 12K RPM.
    Reduce weight of Vette by making block and tran as structural members of chassis and rear suspension.

      Yes bmw has great results with their hot v engines, absolutely trouble free… Just for reference, the LS7 is physically smaller and lighter than the 4.0 DOHC V8 in the M3 from the same era. The LS7 is smaller, lighter, makes more power, and way more torque. Tell me again which is better for performance? Numbers say its the “ancient pos”

    The wives tales of the LS7 dropping a values is just that a wives tales. One shop outside GM did the first 1600 heads for the first run of the LS7 and miss a measurement on the clearance for the titanium rods. NONE after that first run of 1600 did any heads have ANY clearance issues. Owed 2 C6 Zo6 and have had the heads off both motors and flawless guides. Put that shit to bed it’s so ignorant and uneducated to make a statement like that.
