Thank you, John for telling Kandi’s case. This happened in my area and I remember when Kandi went missing. She was definitely distressed, regardless if she was on anything I believe. I also fear for Kandi. But yes, she is a daughter, a mother, a sister, a friend. She deserves the dignity of anyone else.

I understand no one wants someone on their property but this woman was distressed and in trouble. They had ring camera of men following her so she was running from someone. If her purse and phone were in the boyfriend's truck it sounds like he kicked her out of the truck and left her somewhere stranded. Then some perverts accost her and rude people tell her to get off their land when all she wants is her mother. They should be ashamed of themselves for the way the acted toward her. They should have called cops. I think the boyfriend's father did put out the word it was just some domestic issue and the police should be ashamed of how they acted.

Do you understand that there are numerous illnesses that can lead to someone having signs similiar to "drug use"? Do you understand that people "on drugs" are still worthy of being treated like human beings? I hope you never get in a situation where you are desperate for help and run across people who instead laugh at you and run you off their property. Just remember that karma is very real. This poor girl needed help & these people laughed at her, taunted her and videoed her all for some attention on Facebook. It's pathetic & it went far above simply "asking her to leave"........ I live in the area Kandi disappeared in and I don't know anyone who would treat someone that way, especially plastering a video of them laughing at her all over facebook. Honestly where has our humanity gone? I understand being cautious however Kandi hardly looked like a threat, where would she have hid a weapon?
Plus there were at least two fairly decent size guys in that yard, they would have been able to control her if necessary.
I remember opening our front door two summers ago to a young woman sitting, crying on out front step. She was so quiet I could barely hear her, come to find out that she had been staying down the block with her boyfriend and his mother, and they had kicked her out.
I managed to get a phone number for her uncle, he came and picked her up and thanked me profusely.
It was hot so I had given her a soda, offered her a snack, she declined.
Apparently she picked our yard because it looked friendly.

The mere fact that you 'claim' you weren't given a lie detector test date so missed it, then lawyer up and refuse to do one? Is worrying. The mere fact his father has the police's connection, and they did and have done so little? VERY worrying. The mere fact the last ones to see the victim alive were taunting her? Worrying. Have they done lie detector tests? The police seem to have ignored rules 101 and done diddly squat. I hope Kandi's family and son, find answers. Her tracks got near her home - Her personal items in the car. She could have been drugged, come out of it, but that would explain her disorientation, yet still being able to think. She obviously did not trust the police to call them. I think she probably jumped out of Jeff's truck and ran onto the property leaving her phone behind. Then he was waiting for her when she came back out on the road. Now that it has been years there probably is little evidence of what could have happened in his vehicle but I 1000% believe he killed her.

Before I even clicked the video I remembered the case, because of how disgusting the mother and large adult sons in the video taunted her. That woman is clearly a middle aged mother, yet couldn’t even do the bare minimum and call mental health services. All she did was laugh and joke along with her gross cretinous sons. She’s definitely laughing during the call to the mother’s voicemail, just like she was laughing throughout the whole video. What gross people. I hope the next time they need help that they don’t run into someone as gross and heartless as they are, and remember what basic human empathy is. Hope one of her adult kids doesn’t need help and runs to a mother that just laughs at them. Cruel and gross.
Also - please remember when someone is having a mental health crisis DO NOT CALL POLICE, call the closest crisis center. If you live somewhere that rural or the person is a victim of a crime, then call police, otherwise don’t do it. They escalate situations and put people having a crisis in extreme danger. It’s not safe.

I live in a "bedroom community" of a large city/metropolitan area. We are fortunate in that our county police department has mental health professionals who accompany officers on certain calls. Also, the officers themselves receive a lot of training on handling mental health situations.
I realize not all police departments have this type of system in place, but many are headed in that direction. All this to say that, IMO, wherever you live--whether rural, urban or somewhere in between--you should call the police if faced with this type of situation regardless.

Unfortunately, people on drugs can be unpredictable, especially when in distress. However, Kandi wasn't in a crowded public space, she was on what looks like a rural property. I may have been cautious but I would have at least gotten her a drink and called the police. She was clearly in distress.

Those property owners are a good representation of our society.
No different than crowds of commuters on a subway train ignoring a woman's pleas for help as she assaulted feet away.
Same society that cheers with excitement at the release of superhero movie where the main character is a known p*do in real life. Released to an audience where minors are a major demographic.
We don't only fail at protecting the most vulnerable members in society, we give the perpetrators glowing reviews and praise.
As such the cycle not only continues but ruins more lives then ever. Society now makes excuses for the perpetrators as if they are the victims.
Talk to any addict or homeless person and you will find most share childhood trauma of the worst kind. How can you ever love, trust, feel safe, or feel at home when as a child none of this existed. Your home wasn't safe. Loove and trust, distorted to tools of compliance and to silence.
Hey enjoy The Flash though. As long as it's entertaining and allows a couple hour escape from what we've created, it's easy to excuse a lifetime of vile, disgusting behavior.

I can guarantee none of the people at the house or the two local men who harrasssed her, feel remorse for their actions (or lack of) that day.
If even one among them had even an ounce of humanity or decency within them, a woman in crisis would have received help and countless lives wouldn't have permanently grown darker as a result.
I'm not religious...you don't have to be to see that evil exists in the world. When not one compassionate person among those two separate groups of people who interacted with her.
Even worse both groups immediately began tormenting her...
In the couple of years since, this is the default empathy setting for most.
      Violence towards "others" is celebrated.
A two tier legal system places blame on the victim while offering excuses and light punishment for the perpetrators. 🙄

You could've calmed her down & called her mom & waited for her to call you back or call someone else she trusted. You could've kept her safe like you'd want someone else to do for your babies. Never would I do such a thing to a scared woman! I imagine she feels guilty & that everyone in her life, from family to church to work, has seen the footage & let her know in both subtle & direct ways what they thought of her behavior.
If you can't help or don't feel comfortable approaching someone who might be in distress, call police. It's best for the person as well as yourself.
This month a man died of stab wounds that may have been survived had the car he tried to flag down not driven off (or had they called 911 to report it) & a couple was shot at for taking a wrong turn onto someone's property. This is evident of the decaying of humanity & it makes me angry and sad.

This is the result when people see others, that they presume may be dealing with addiction and/or a mental health crisis, as less than human and not worth their time, compassion, or humanity. Those who may be dealing with addiction and/or mental health issues are still human and are the individuals who need not only our help the most, but also our compassion. Instead a group of men see a woman in distress and begin to harass her. She begs for help and seeks a moment of respite and aid in a stranger's lawn and is met with laughing, being dehumanized, and told to leave and wander along the side of the highway like a lost or wounded animal. It is beyond disgusting, but this is what occurs in a society where we turn human beings into "the other," different and not worth of respect or aid. Punching down is never acceptable, but to do so when an individual is seeking aid is truly horrific.
Everyone that comes into your yard is not the boogey man out to get you or steal from you. This is what lead to Candy not getting the aid she needed in this case. It also lead to the deaths of several young people just in the last week for simply knocking on a stranger's door or turning around in your driveway. What good is living a life without compassion, caring, and respect for your fellow man?
