Exercise is definitely my go to in helping me with anxiety along with meditation and being in the present moment which gets me out of my head. Yes, I find music relaxes me and I listen to music when I exercise, it makes me feel good. The type of music I enjoy is music from the 80s as I grew up in the 80s and it gives me good feelings of nostalgia. I like music with meaningful lyrics that are honest, truthful, insightful and positive. Although these coping mechanisms do help me it is by no means a cure but I rely on these coping mechanisms to get me through life. Also, having had a life of stress and suffering I have no doubt it has made me more spiritual, so I know we are all loving beings inside this body and that when this life is over we just go back home to pure love and acceptance. So, ultimately we are nothing to worry about just take the exam we have been given and try to be as loving and peaceful as possible :)
My heart rate being elevated makes moving worse for me. Do you have that? Do you just fight past it?
Hi Doc! I’m a very musically inclined person and I think somber/slow/calm music can help me when I’m down because it’s comforting. The best way to describe this feeling is as if the music sympathizes with how I feel. The lyrics can speak to me or the sound of calm music can soothe my feelings. One thing to note, it’s like misery loves company. Yes I’m listening to sad music when I’m sad but it’s like letting yourself cry. It’s relieving

When it comes to music I've noticed that certain Beats Per Minute songs helps when in a triggered state of anxiety and when in a need a boost.
For example: I help teach martial arts and wer have classes dealing with little kids, 4-7 years of age. Thankfully I don't assist with that class since I don't handle kids very well.
But I also suffer from Social Anxiety do to being naturally an asocial person.
So one day about 5 months ago I was in a triggered social anxiety attack with the little kids being in their classes. So I decided to slow my heart rate by listening to I Do Believe I Fell in Love by Donna Summer. It is slow to medium pace throughout the majority of the song with a faster build up towards the end. So I used the beat to slow my heart rate in turn calming down the anxiety and then used the last bit of the song to boost my teaching energy back up to teach my class that was coming up.
I used a strategy: In a low mood either listen to songs with slow tempo or based on mood does help in terms of identifying how you are feeling and connect. After that you use a slow or medium tempo song with an uplifting message, whether or not the song gets faster towards the end, to uplift the mood. Then you use a fast tempo song to stay in the uplifted mood.
Thanks for watching! Wishing you peace, health, and, happiness.
Got the email about this premier. Problem is I've only just seen the email notification an hour and 15 minutes after it began. Sorry Doc. Guess I need to change how I get my notifications or check more often.
Have an awesome weekend doc..
Take care and stay safe always! 💯
Thank you Dr. for explanation.

Thanks for watching from Budapest!
I used to get drunk to get over my anxiety. I was nervous to be around people after a career in SAR as a field medic. I just could be around people. After awhile just chitchatting while under the influence I got over that fear. Now I’m very out going, and sober. Obviously I don’t suggest getting drunk to go talk to people I’m just saying.
I also have been taking prenatal Vitamins and I’m a male. I never realized I was lacking vitamins until I took them.
Thanks for watching.
There's also Dance and body movement therapy. Very effective for anxiety in my opinion. About music genres for calming down: I am a lifelong lover of music and dance, and I have been listening to it and practice it for decades, before ever knowing there was such thing as therapy (I lived in a country where it was considered illegal when I was a child..). Ambient music for chilling out, electronic music also for relaxing, jazz music also.., trance music for getting into a state where everything is possible (opens horizons), and then rap music, hip hop, very rhythmic music for mobilization for action. Rock music for letting some anger go.. :)) a.s.o. to each emotional state there is a musical genre, I guess. :)
I found one article on using it in cancer patients. " The findings of individual studies suggest that dance/movement therapy may have a beneficial effect on QoL, somatization, and vigor" pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/26975625/ Unfortunately currently there are no meta-analyses and very little "quality research" which is a shame. I am a big proponent of movement.
I had a panic attack during a treatment at a spa(laser treatment) and they rescheduled my appointment. They canceled a day before my appointment because the practitioner wasn't comfortable treating me again. I was going to go back and this time take the sedative that they were going to give me the last time(but I drove myself) and was set up to get a ride this time. I was ready to face this again. (Mind you I've gotten this same treatment 2 years in a row now. She won't treat me again for any service there again. I just wanted to share this. Oh and I forgot to mention she is a physicians assistant PA and she has extensive ER experience. And she doesn't feel comfortable.
Question, Doctor Snipes, I'm curious to know if you've ever experienced a "high" when working out? I do, what exactly is this "high"?
Neurotransmitter and endorphinal release.
Yes, I feel great after a good workout. (Checkout my recent selfie in the community section. :) )
I have anxiety. My Dr prescribed Propranolol..its giving me severe heartburn. I think I have acid reflux going on. Second I have "trich" hair pulling disorder. So..its a lot going on with me. 3rd.. my job is stressing me out..I just need to relocate, get a new job doing something I really enjoy..idk ..
Thanks for watching.

When you say “evidence-based” research, are you speaking of Randomized, controlled clinical trials - with placebos, which also report any and all side effects or negative results of Psychotherapy, and report efficacy rates, as well as percentages of negative outcomes of specific, clearly defined Psychotherapy or Counseling methods-treatments for anxiety?
