My neighbor who is a quadriplegic and has been in a chair for over 30 years just last year switched to a suprapubic system and now does not have to self catheterize anymore. He said the difference is amazing and very good. I have MS so we are always chatting on the street when we see each other. He fills me in on the latest that he is doing.
That's awesome. Thank you for the information. Yeah I have thought about switching, but the catheterization has been pretty good so far. But I'm definitely open to it in the future. Take care.
I can walk around . But my bladder started like that 2 months ago. How is running to the bathroom every 5 or 10 minutes. I was actually timing my trips and how often. I ended up in the depends pants and the other stuff. I had an infection of the bladder. They gave me an antibiotic one side effect is that was rare said I could turn your bladder it can stop urination. I'm still going to look into that because. Possibility is the antibiotic. That's probably what put me into this problem. Only took the antibiotic 2 days. By the second night I was in extreme pain I ended up in emergency room. Had to be catheterized to drain the urine .
What I hate about she changed me the one use twice a day. I can't urinate just twice in 24 hour's. To me my doctor didn't make no sense. Only thing I could take from that as maybe she was trying to change my bladder to go back longer hours to urinate I don't know. She didn't really explain what she was really doing.
Thank you for your comments. It can seem daunting at first, but there are so many products available that if the time does come you will be able to find something that will work for you. Best of luck.
Thank you if you do it this you've got guts I don't know how to do what you're doing but unfortunately now being incontinent I'm going to have to learn thank you I think you're very brave
Hi Stuart. Thank you for your comments. With most things in life you adjust and move forward. The rules of the game may change, but the quality of life can still exist. I'm sure you will figure out what works best for you. Best of luck.
Hey man, I know its a very old video but I wanted to ask something if you dont mind. Do you have any tips for not getting frequent UTIs? I use octiset before performing self cath but I still get UTIs all the time. Thanks for the video, you are great
Thanks for your comment. First off, if you are intermittently cathing please make sure to use a BZK wipe or form of betadine to clean the area...this should cut down your risk significantly. I have never used Octiset as an antiseptic, but have had great success with the BZK wipes. Also, make sure you are drinking lots of water and eating good nutritious food. Best of luck!
Any type of BZK wipe will work well. I don't have a specific brand, but order some different kinds from Amazon to find ones that work for you (e.g. ease of opening, moist, price, etc.) Best of luck!
I got like that about 2 months ago. I was up one night in excruciating pain. I ended up in emergency room. I never had this problem before. I do get a lot of spasms and it's irritating. That my bladder wouldn't work. Then she gave me these things were she called it a one use. She Said 1 in the morning 1 in the evening. I was thinking we'll shoot I'll be more often than that if I'm going to be throwing it away it after 1 use I'm drink supposed to drink about 8 cups of water a day. Water itself makes me go like a tea . I had a bladder infection so I had to drink more water. I kind of got off coffee years ago. I'll be in too much reflux. Now I even drink maybe like 1 or 2 a month. And I'll drink a little light not heavy strong. I had to stop drinking sodas cuz carbonation and caffeine was bad. I quit drinking soda cold turkey . What I don't understand if you're going to urinate every 2 or 3 hour's. And they tell you only use 1 catheter 1 time . I could end up using about 5 a day on catheters. Can irritate your urethra and bladder. I'm finding I have to use more a day. Cuz I get up in the night to have to use another. Almost feels like I'd rather had the bag 1 that you don't have to use a bag but you still leave it in. The only thing I'm finding out if I don't have to use a donut pillow to sit down because of the catheter stays in all the time. And hurts to sit Down on the catheter all day. liked it better that way actually. I thought even had to carry a bottle and I could use a tube sticking out on my waste and I'm not worried about having to go to the find a bathroom to use a catheter. And I don't drink late night. I've notice they tell you just to drink a few sips of water at night hours at night. Few sips put me into the pressure mode to use another catheter. Anybody else have problems like that or how something can change or how to change it.? I'm never had depression in my life. So this thing really put you on a spin.
I use the blue pad or small white gauze pad that comes with the closed system when catheterizing because the Rusch MMG H2O does leak a little bit out of the top. And sometimes the applicator tip pops off which makes it much more susceptible to leakage. Thanks for the question!
Thanks for share, I want to ask something if maybe you can help us, my boyfriend, who also has a spinal cord injury (T5-T6), identifies that he is going to urinate because his penis retracts, we have looked for information about it but we did not find, do you know if it is normal for this to happen after the spinal cord injury, and when he finishes urinating his penis returns to the normal size. We only found something like a buried penis but that is permanent and it is not the case of my boyfriend, that is why we want to know the opinion of other people with spinal cord injury and if it also happens to them
Thank you for replying. I believe the term is penile retraction and it can happen for a number of reasons. I know this happens to me from time to time when my bladder pressures are high. And I've spoken to other individuals with SCI that experience the same thing. So I think this is a normal SCI secondary condition for some of us. Because it goes back to normal after peeing it sounds as though it's a reaction to having a neurogenic bladder. It sounds like your boyfriend is ok, but I'm not a doctor and can only speak from experience.
I tried to do this and I used one that had that gliding lube stuff already in the package but it hurt the inside of my dick is that normal I had to pull it back out before I got to the bladder cuz it kind of burned
With the Rusch catheter I was using the little goz pad underneath the entry of the catheter to prevent any leakage. But I am currently using a straight cath into a urinal and I don't have any issues.

My father suffers from ms. We have to perform intermittent catheterization, but the urethra gets wounded and bleeds...😭😭😭
Do you have to use a numbing gel I always thought you had to use numbing gel because it's kind of painful I have heard but I was just wondering.
