Thank you, Justin. Your exploration and sharing of your experience just saved me from being frustrated with the low end of my new Westone UM Pro 50. I stumbled upon your review to my good fortune, as my disappointment has changed into excitement about the full range fidelity of the UM Pro 50 after using the triple flange Shure ear tips. These iem's are a keeper for sure, thanks to you. Really appreciate it. Thanks a million.

I just ordered the triple flange plugs for my Westone AM 30s. I had the same "tinny treble, lack of bass" experience as you described. Thanks for the tip...

Thank you for the Shure triple flange suggestion. Important note on the triple flange ear tips. YOU CAN CUT THEM SHORTER. I felt like they were sticking into my brain, and found this on the Shure support site:
"If the additional depth of the triple-flange sleeve is uncomfortable, the smallest flange can be cut off with a pair of scissors or a utility knife, resulting in a double-flange sleeve that is approximately the same depth as the standard flex sleeves. You can also cut the nozzle end down slightly if you find the earphone sticking too far out of your ear."
I cut off one flange on the left ear and also trimmed the shaft a bit on both. Now I have a perfect fit. Sooo happy. Hopefully this helps others. Also snug the sliding cord lock all the way up to the back of your head for minimal movement while playing. Good luck!

With my Shure IEMs, a lot of their benefit is realized when, principally, only the sound from the drivers (speakers) is what you hear, with nil or an absolute minimum of direct ambient sound. So upgrading to the most suitable in-ear fit has gained this essential function of your device. Glad you’ve found a solution to what you really wanted from the Westones; that warm fuzzy all helps when you’ve got reliable kit supporting your playing and performance. Omelette made, then humble pie, respect to you for re-posting chef.

@65 Drums, you hit it right on the nail. How the iem sits in your ear is even more critical than the technology itself. I've also experimented using ear tips from other brands that fit. As you said, an effective way to solve this issue is to do just that or have custom molds made. I currently use the UM Pro 20s and have had no issues for 2 years running. I've been lucky enough to be able to use the "red" coded silicon ear tips that come with the package. They also come in the UM Pro 30 pack as well, and can be bought separately. The thing I like about the "red" code silicon is they are a bit longer than the tips that come installed on the phones. This seats the tip deeper into the ear canal similar to the flanged tips you are using now providing a fuller spectrum of sound. Everyone's ear canals are different, so it makes me happy that Westone provides a full choice of sizes both in foam tips and silicon tips. Thanks for the correction in your review, as I've been thinking to upgrade from the UM Pro 20s to the UM pro 30s. From what you've said, i'm sure they will not disappoint. i use them for both stage monitoring and critical listening on my Macbook Pro.

My God, I wish I had watched tho video before I purchased so many different buds. I never could get happy because I was new to in ears and didn’t realize how important ear tip fit was. Now they all sound good. Lots of money later! Very helpful video!!!!

OMG! I bought the triple flanged ear tips and I am amazed at the difference in sound of my AM Pro 30. Everything is crystal clear and I can really hear the bass. I tried the tips that came with the AM Pro 30, but they just didn't fit well in my ear. I agree, GAME CHANGER!

Hey Justin, I just got these IEMs today for $220 from the church I serve at who ordered a bunch to got that price.
At first I thought they were a bit on the high end of the frequency spectrum but that’s because of the way they fit inside the air canal. You have to have the right fitting for the base to come out. So I tried the biggest pair of those black molds and that seems to work. I also used my custom ear molds and it brought out more of the low end.
Thanks for the tip of those Shure triple fittings.

I have used IEM's for over 15 years. Shures, MAudio(Dual) and currently on custom molds made for Westone UM3 , but before them I used the absolute best ear tips, which are the Comply Pro(P-Series). Longer memory foam tips that really make a great seal. Better than the silicone triple flanges IMHO. Also, be sure that no part of your ear buds(the hard plastic parts) touch your ear. You want to decouple the buds from your ear, kind of have them float in your ear cannal Otherwise you will hear a lot of microphonics which will ruin your experience. Having a great seal along with using both buds is essential. Yes, people try and use one bud, but have trouble getting it loud enough. Either both in or dont use them. You can do damage to your ear and the bud by cranking up the one ear bud enough.

I have Ultimate Ears hand craftet for my ears. They fit perfect. OK it was 1000 € for this pair. But you cant get a better fit. The sound is ultra clear. I have the UE7....the ones that are recommanded for bass and drums. I bought it for drums in the first place. They are 3 way. But compared to my regular Roland Headphone they're lagging in bass tone. I always have the feeling that my drums not sounding thick and good. This effects my playing. I tried them now with my bass guitar. And wow. This is what they are made for. After all. For drums they are not good enough. Now I will try cheaper ones with regular plugs. Buying the top level priced devices is not always the solution.

Well I got the triple flange, and in my opinion the Am Pro 30s still sound like shit. I have a good seal and have plenty of bass, but the sound just lacks any fidelity. They sound like listening to a low bitrate mp3 from the early 2000s. I am so pissed that I dropped 300.00 on these things than sound worse than my 50.00 CCA C12 consumer IEMS. Granted I sing and play guitar, so I need that fidelity to hear what my voice is doing, but man. Listening to music off my phone is just a terrible experience. Wasted money I could have used on guitar gear.
