In this video I am building a huge conference table that will live in the tasting room of a new winery. Most of the lumber for this build was grown and harvested on the owner’s property, which made for a challenging and fun build. In order to stretch the lumber I received across a 16’ x 5’ table, I used shop-made veneer. Additionally, this build utilized plenty of other interesting techniques including template routing, segmented curves, domino joinery, and a lot of veneering good times.

You two are awesome
I kinda miss the two channels, but your styles and crafts have a strong synergy going on
Glad to hear that! Thanks!
Thank you for the video. Learned you can take multiple cuts using a flush trim bit instead of taking a full thickness cut all at once. I bought and used a two inch long flush trim bit for my previous project. It was scary. Will use your guy's technique next time. Thank you
The veneer sled is brilliant!
It worked like a charm!
I've been here for a couple years now and I'm starting to think that this isn't accually a DIY channel...
I agree. And this is the Chris's channel. I'm sad that he share his channel...
@@arankthnar just to be clear - it was more of a joke. I always knew their skill is beyond reach. And Shaun? Had my sub as well, so I see no harm here.
jajajaaj x2
Not with that attitude it ain't for you.
Yeah...this guy...Just Make Love to the Wood , And . . . i'dont see holes on the video😂
This piece is pretty impressive. Broad range of techniques used as well. Well done!
Thanks Sam!
Looks amazing
Thank you!
such sensual music. nice table
Hey, listen guys, should I ever win the lottery, I'm hiring you's'twos'guys the outfit the interior of my World Domination headquarters. Thats a fact! No kidding. You guys have it!
What a amazing table. A lot of work, but beautiful in the end.
Thank you, really appreciate it!
*Hello there, I have requested your DVDs, for simpler and quicker approach to manufacture a shed **Allmy.Tips** I trust the substance are as you guaranteed it will be. Just I'm worried with the substance, it won't be anything but difficult to settle on a decision from the various plans.*
The music is perfect for these videos!
Glad to hear that!
Wow! What a project. Looks wonderful.
Thanks Bob!
Really nice work!!
Thank you!
Crazy scale of a table!! Amazing work!
Thank you!
I'm at a point where I enjoy the comedy aspect just as much as the wood working.
Awesome! We love hearing that!
The Mr. Rogers cut away was brilliant. 🤣👍
Haha, it always fits perfectly!
I cried a little when you painted all that nice cherry black. Was the color and after thought? Why not just use something like poplar if it was just going to be painted?
The base was made of red oak, definitely wouldn’t use cherry if I was planning to go with black.
@@shaunb66 Good to hear! LOL!! I must have either missed it or focused on the cherry you used to surround the top. Gorgeous table! Any worries about how the veneer will hold up against the 'wet' environment of the winery? I'm assuming it will be used for things like tastings and exposed to occasional spills and constant cleaning.
WOW this is a monster project. Looks amazing!
Thank you! It was quite an undertaking.
you guys are awesome and simple ♥
That was a fantastic way to spend 20 minutes. Gorgeous woodworking and fantastic storytelling. Now, I don't know if this was adressed before, but the name "Foureyes" is strangely foretelling of your association, was any of it planned from the beginning (seems very unlikely) ?
:O makes one just want to take up a brand new career in woodworking!! thanks!
Haha, thanks Peggy!
really enjoyed seeing this as I have heard all about it through the modern maker podcast
Me too. I love seeing the videos I’ve been hearing about in the podcast.
Right on, glad to hear that!
Looks great! nice work
Thank you!
The mister Roger's bit was hilarious
12:24 It looks so flexible!
Looks great! What kind of paint did you guys use for the base?
Thanks! It is General Finishes Black Poly.
You guys are simpatico! 😂😉😉
👍👍
Love the music. Songlist or Name of Artist, please?
Great video, how much would you charge for a project of this size and scope....?
Hey Matthew, send me a DM on Instagram @foureyesfurniture or send me and email
This really is beautiful 🤤
Muito bom parabéns 👏
Obrigado!
Wow!! That’s an awesome table!!
Quick question, why do you use such a short pattern router bit? That red one looks like it’s about .5”. Is there an advantage to using a smaller bit over one of those giant bits or does it just fit your work flow better to use the small one?
Thanks!
And thanks for all the rad videos!
When you are using a 1/2 inch template the cut depth on the bit has to be shallow if you want to make small passes. With one of the huge flush cut bits, the cutter would be 1 inch deep into the material just so the bearing could ride on the template. That can be a lot to cut when working with hardwoods.
Yep, exactly! That is probably my most used router bit, as well.
What did you spray the base with? Single coat?
It is general finishes black poly. I usually do about 4-5 coats.
Love the video, not the music tho. This time
Whats the song at the end
Great work Shaun! Its such a balanced piece, curvature-squareness, modern-a touch of traditional, clean and simple- complexity in the right spots. It'll be a timeless table :)
Have you guys ever considered calling yourselves "eight eyes", 🤣🤣🤣
Also, how you liking that Rockler drill jig, played around with it in Rockler the other day, do you find it does a great job?
Thank you, really appreciate that! Yeah, that drilling jig has been great. We just got it and I have been using it quite a bit lately.
black legs not great. treated wood would have been way nicer right?
Opinions are like assholes..... everyone has one
I'm going to start saying to my employees "Don't be a putz, make multiple cuts"
4:05 the music and the Mr. Rogers clip sound perfect together.
Haha, love that clip.
It is a pity that the leg is between your knees while you are sitting at the front of table.
Came for the woodworking....stayed for incredibly dry yet hilarious comedy!!! you guys are great!
As a hobbyist woodworker, your projects are so huge and daunting, but your videos are so well done and I love the humor you add as well.
6:03 That’s a looot of work...tumbs up guys👍🏻.
I just thought of a little very helpful advice we learned at vocational school ( just in case you didn‘t know): For a harmonic „veneer-image“ (Furnierbild as we call it in Germany) put the veneer with its bright sapwood(edge) only nexto sapwood, and heartwood nexto heartwood...the crossings appear more natural through this arrangements.
This means: [sapwood, heartwood] [heartwood, sapwood] [sapwood, heartwood] etc...
I really appreciate your work and all your effort. In my opinion one of the best woodworking channels.
Ps: it looks soo relaxing...but when you’re in the workshop things go complicated or stressful😅...especially when you glue something and everything has to be accurate
Greetings form Germany
Yes I learned something new today 😁. Really interesting technic. I'll write this down 😊
Thank you! Yes, it can get pretty stressful, which is why we like to make our videos feel as calm as possible!
Merel Velthoen ...i‘m glad that i could help you😄...nethertheless do what suits/works best for you, it‘s just a guidline
Shaun Boyd - Foureyes ...yea that‘s a huge plus👍🏻. You guys make it seem so easily...am i the only one with these issues during my woodworking projects🙈😂.
The production quality of your woodworking and your videos is fantastic
I like this, because I clearly understand almost all that he speaking. I native russian speaker and listening in english is hard for me. But not here for some mysterious reason.
Brilliant video from start to finish and is packed with lots of pro tips and techniques. You are even teaching a bit of geometry which is really helpful in woodwork. I'm looking forward to you building a mitre station if you are going to do one?
Hahahha. They won't buy let alone build a mitre station
As a huge fan, and love most you do there is always room for constructive critisism. I feel the legs do not match the asthetic of the table. I believe alot of people get stumped..lol...on the legs. Your legs on other pieces you do are thought out...why not use metal if you were going to make legs black and look like metal...a more elongated leg welded by a local welder with eyecatching geometry..after all this is a centerpeice in a wine tasting room and should be unique from top to bottom...There was a link to this metal shop on blacktail studios table leg video...they are in u.s....look at that site and legs...or go longer support beam with unique legs branching out....again your work is awesome and just feel legs get forgotten but acually make the table.
The client originally wanted a metal base, and I don't do any metal work, so he asked me to do something similar to the original design, but in wood. So this where we ended up. I think it looks pretty good, and the main thing with the base was to not take any attention from the top.
That was expert usage of a Mr. Rogers clip. I LOLed IRL.
That was truly, truly magical!
Haha, it is such a perfect clip!
Right?! I probably scared the roomies.
Nice build and I love the style. My favorite part has to be the little sneak peek of the cabby! Got me excited enough to give you a follow on Instagram. Also I would not be sad if you guys had an offshoot video or a few on your cars and restoration of. Great work per usual.
Thanks, man! I have been toying with the idea of doing some car content, just a matter of finding the time.
thickni or thicknis (where the "s" is silent)? thicknae, maybe?
You guys do fantastic work ! Nice job on the table and a very good video !! Actually, a “GREAT” job on the table !!!
Really appreciate that! Thanks John!
Question - Is there an advantage/disadvantage to cutting the veneer thicker, say ¼ inch?
This video is very timely for me since I am making a Murphy bed and need to veneer a panel the size of a mattress. Thanks...and great build.
Hazem Bata I have the exact same question. Plus, why epoxy instead of wood glue or contact cement for glueing the veneer?
@@turcmic I imagine the epoxy was to give them more time to work. Glue sets in about 15 minutes. Epoxy sets in a few hours.
The thicker the veneer, the more chance for seasonal wood movement, similar to if you just made a solid wood table top. So doing a pattern like I did for this table, might not work out over time. And yes, epoxy gives more open time, and it isn't water-based like wood glue, so it doesn't cause the veneer to warp from moisture when you are trying to apply it to the substrate.
Thanks for the additional info! Very informative. And, as usual, GREAT work Shaun! Cheers from Montreal!
@@shaunb66 would contact cement work well?
I almost screamed when you poured the colored epoxy into the gap. I cannot believe the color didn't leech into the wood
Little bit of sanding takes care of it.
@@shaunb66 Just sanded down fine prior so no voids for it to seep into?
@@Russ-od2yy Yeah, pretty much. There is always a tiny bit of bleed into the grain, but that usually goes away with a bit of sanding afterwards.
Since you have you used both, mind telling me if there is a big difference between the Kreg and Festool track saws? I am considering the Kreg right now but wondering if I should save some more for the Festool.
Honestly, not much of a difference for normal use. Festool is a bit higher build quality, but the Kreg certainly gets the job done.
@@shaunb66 thanks for the input! I will more than likely pick up the Kreg in a couple of projects!
Really impressed by this build - absolutely bananas in terms of scope / size.
Really appreciate it! It was quite an undertaking.
beautiful work Shaun, loved the cady in the shop, remind me of my Golf mk1
Thank you! That is my new shop truck, I am loving it so far!
The weird times have done something to me. For whatever reason, “thickni” came off as way more funny than you may have intended.
As always men, quality stuff. Thank you.
Glad to hear that! Thanks!
Hahaha yes sure, Shaun, always cut first and then measure, great! 😀 Lovely video and table!
I absolutely love this build. UH OH's, No Handy Dandy "Bandy Clamps" for you Tw2 Champs? For edge banding.
Great presentation! Three questions, if I may. How thick did you cut the veneer; did you leave the underside of the ply substrate unveneered; and, how did you finish the tabletop?
The socks + sandals look at the end just completely ruined it for me. Ugh. Nice veneer creation & configuration, though.
please make the music quieter. I'm constantly adjusting the volume to hear you speak, then immediately turning it down when the music ramps back up
Well. Its been a while since I found a channel to binge on. Awesome work guys!
did you manage the 'dont be a putz, take multiple cuts' part without rolling on the floor? ..think idve needed a few takes to keep a straight face :p - love the veneer work!
At the 13 min mark, could you please explain the benefits of taking multiple passes with the track saw and then a full depth thin kerf? Thanks
Hello my friend.
Unless you try out the innovations, you cannot learn something new. And you are always working to teach innovations. And you always produce innovative studies and ideas. Thank you for sharing. See you. greetings.
I really appreciate that! Thank you!
I think the honesty goes all the way to make these videos great. Sounds a bit of a stretch but the powers that be could learn a lot as in ‘ we know you don’t fully understand what’s going on but we shall give you the benefit of the doubt! ‘ 🤣good stuff chaps.
That Mr Rogers clips needs to be the default "my camera stopped recording/I forgot to hit record/something was in the way of the shot/etc." insert clip alongside the Spongebob time cards.
Haha, yeah it has become my go-to for exactly that.
The client paid for him to use the wood that they had. Yet he just goes and makes a veneer from it?
I wouldn't have paid for for it. That's not what they asked for.
very impressive and nice table. You should be careful with only putting veneer on the top though, this can lead to warping
It's disappointing that not more of their wood could be used. Beautiful work, though x
Wait anyone knows why not wood glue? Is it specifically not as good for the veneer?
What I wouldn't give to work in a shop like that for a few weeks :) Love the video, the project, the cuts and the soundtrack!
Thank you! Really appreciate it!
Jesus, the music is so horrible, I could only make to 4:59 and then fired you.
newer veiwer. i knew chris hard a parter at the start, but i had no idea he was also so into the youtube end of things too
Do I see a pastel mk1 vw rabbit in the beginning of this episode?
Dear god the music sounds like it is farting throughout the first half of video.
When you took out the veneered plywood I noticed that some of the epoxy had bleed through. How did you deal with that when finishing the top? Thanks.
It just sanded away, no big deal.
Auditioning for a live action remake of Thunderbirds with that walk, Shaun? 😜 🤣 😂
Haha, I would be cool with that!
Oh man, I wish I could’ve raided your offcuts from this project. That whole slab with all the bark would’ve been perfect for a project I’m working on.
I’m raiding him first!
There sure were a lot of offcuts, though most of them still had bugs living in them.
You are great woodworkers.
I am getting a lot of inspiration from you two.
Glad to hear that! Thanks for watching!
Any chance you guys could label the videos of who is making it. I kind of only like Shaun. No offense, but I miss his independent channel.
Appreciate it, but probably not. Though, some of our thumbnails already indicate who made the video.
If your mitres do not fit fill them up with glue and sh1t.😊
Best part of the video was a1 rabbit... The rest was good, but that was the best part.
Killer project boys!! Loving the content!
Thanks man! Appreciate it!
Wow! My wife actually watch this whole video with me... that’s saying something.
It means that you have to get worried.... She loves wood ,😉
That is high praise! Maybe she will be helping you out in the shop soon.
Mine too! During lunch today hahahaha
I’d be skeptical. She’s gonna ask you for something. If she lets you buy any new tools then that’s when you really know something is up!
That‘s true love😉
If those red Vans can tell a story...Nice work guys
What do you guys use to record your voiceover?
I use a Rode Shotgun mic, and Chris uses a Rode Condenser Mic.
Love the striped sockets and sandals 😉
Haha, I will let Chris know.
Great build and video.... Ok .. who owns the Caddy? Looks super clean.
Thanks! I just got the Caddy a couple months ago. It is in great shape!
hey man am i wrong or are you spraying way too far away from the work piece? The material is going to drive before it lands (dry spray).
Depends on a lot of things, pressure, amount of finish coming out of the gun, temperature. The finish came out great for this, so don't think I needed to be any closer.
Such an interesting build! Unbelievable work guys!
Thanks for watching!
L O V E the humor you guys insert in your videos, Mr. Rogers mademe laugh through the entire video.
Thanks Jen! Glad you are enjoying it!
What did you use when spraying the base black? Love the grain still being visible
It is General Finishes Black Poly.
I always enjoy the videos Shaun!
Really appreciate it! Thanks man!
storage woodworking woodworking project and plan free .
Fantastic job gentlemen! As always, very inspiring
Happy to hear that! Thanks!
You built a table so long that Shaun looked like he was walking down the Neverhood Hall of Records!
I see those slides on sawtables so many times. To me Manufacturers r sleeping... But god what a awesome craftmanship!
Thank you!
So, Laurel and Hardy build a conference table? 😊
