They aren't friends, they are brothers. They annoy the hell out of each other, but they have complete faith in them as well. They never really doubt the other when in a crisis.
Honestly after WCI I think it's perfectly clear that just as Zeff is Sanji's "real" father, Zoro is Sanji's "real" brother. There are lots of parallels there between Zeff/Judge and Zoro/Sanji's brothers. Just like with Zeff, on the outside it appears that Sanji gets along terribly with him but deep down they have the deepest of bonds. Enough for Sanji to make Zoro the most important request he could in the end of Wano.

Brotherhood is love and war, look at how both Luffy and Ace after Alabasta decided to chase their own individual dreams. To become, or make someone, the Pirate King. On the other hand, as a Third mate TYPICALLY, and being Sanji, they are much more inclined to protect and support the crew, even if some, are his most "adored" friends. If INDIVIDUALS feel attacked by the ideals of another it is because they question themselves or where they lie within the two ideals. Also, Yes Sanji is, at least currently until either receive more significant development there to remind Zoro that he is human, and he can't chase a strong Devil Fruit user too similarly in terms of power and skill. Lastly, almost all characters are skilled enough to thrive in some way or another outside of their position. Which is what makes their dedication to each of their crews/ groups more impactful in terms of staying or switching sides.
Shabondy was a good interaction too. When they're fighting the first Pacifista, Sanji notices Zoro's wounds from Thriller Bark haven't healed yet, so when they're running away from Sentoumaru, Kizaru and the other Pacifista, Sanji actually asks Franky to look after Nami (who he was originally guarding), and goes to help Zoro specifically because he knows he's too hurt to defend himself. They're brief, often silent and far-off between, but those moments of respect and care are always good to see. But yes, like you said the Zoro/Sanji thing is interesting because while they do respect each other, and (deep down) care for each other, they're not really "friends" like the rest of the crew.

Despite the fact I love both of them, this is the most overrated discussion in One Piece. There’s more interesting things to discuss than this in the series.
That's why it baffles me that Morj repeatedly says in livestreams that he hates these discussions and yet he always spends the most amount of time on Zoro or Sanji superchat questions and ignores more interesting non-superchat theories/questions.
sanji is a well defined character...whether people want to admit it or not sanji has a genuinely distinct unique character for this story and great motivations hes been established hes done good things for the crew...hating on him is insane...hes one of the beter characters in one of the best stories ever told..zoro is not quite as great but its close for sure...
I found it interesting, that Sanji admitted that Zoro was right, when Zoro had his badass talk to the crew about Ruffy not being allowed to go and get Ussop before he apologizes. Sanji even shut Nami down by doing so, because she was talking. I liked that moment for both of these characters.
It is even more interesting that Sanji's response and agreement is very underappreciated which might even be the point of his action - while Zoro is Luffy's second in command as well as partner in combat, Sanji works in the shadows and often by himself, so naturally he often is underappreciated. The fact that Sanji's input in that situation is more on subtle side and on surface overshadowed by Zoro's (kind of like entire Kuma's pain scene) speaks even more about the chef's nature in crew, being in background behind the foreground that is Luffy and Zoro. There is also the bounty situation. ... Man, Oda is such an incredible writer.

When you talked about Zoro not calling Sanji by his name even once, it made me think of Zeff, who always called him Eggplant. But when Sanji was about to leave Baratie, Zeff finally called him by his name. I wonder if Oda will do something similar with Zoro and Sanji.

YMS To be honest, I tune out most of the discussion about Zoro vs Sanji especially if it involves power-scaling. If we're talking about the story and how the character has been treated during post-timeskip fair enough, but really I don't really care to engage in what will likely turn out to be a debate that goes into circles.

Zorro and Sanji's whole in-character debate comes back to their treatment of women. I'm not even joking, the first time they EVER fight is when Nami pretends to betray the Strawhats. Zorro treats her as a credible threat, and Sanji is too busy thinking with his groin to do anything but roll over for her. That was the start of their bad blood. This comes back to Zorro's backstory, where his whole MOTIVATION for becoming so strong in the first place is because of his childhood friend, who was constantly treated as less credible because she was simply born a girl. Because of this, Zorro treats women like equals, including equal threats and equal warriors. He will never disregard a threat because they were born a girl, the way his childhood friend was disregarded. Sanji, meanwhile, had it beaten into his head as a child (by Zeff) to never hit a woman, etc, etc. When you add in his complete "white knight" attitude towards any attractive woman who crosses his path, it just makes the differences between the two that much more stark.
Except Zoro doesn't treat women as equals, that was the whole thing with the bird chick from punk hazard and I feel like there was another time I'm not remembering

Same! I was so excited to see what the One Piece fandom was like when I got caught up to the manga, just to find out how much toxicity there was. One Piece is such a good story with amazing characters, and the fact that so many people prefer to only stick to Sanji vs Zoro is kinda sad.
I think it's just an interesting topic. I definitely agree people get really weird and obsessive over it, but aside from that it's a lot of fun actually arguing about them strength wise with someone who's actually constructive cause there are arguments on both sides. It comes from a passion about the show and characters, I think. It's less the comic relief dynamic, more that both characters have a clear rivalry and large fanbase, and so there are lots of discussions about the perceived strength of both characters cause in both cases we are yet to really see either be pushed in the post-timeskip era.

Thank god you said something about this. I don’t even like going to the comments sections of other one piece reviews anymore just because I know there’s gonna be some jabs thrown towards Zoro or Sanji and then it spirals into a toxic argument between the fans. Shit kills the vibe of any video or discussion. It needs to stop or at least be toned down drastically.
What kills the vibe more is seeing Sanji do the same shit every chapter since his arrival in One Piece. I'm surprised Oda isn't tired of drawing hearts in Sanji's eyes yet. Even Ussop's character matured way more than him.
@@ronjm1640 Usopp and Sanji have shown the same characteristics this arc that they’ve always had. Usopp was still quivering and fleeing from Ulti and Page 1 and even told Nami to say Luffy wouldn’t be King of the pirates so she could save her own life. Both characters fall into their habits.

I'm a Sanji fan and i'm ok with Sanji being 3rd (its literally in his name lol). I personally hate Zoro fans loving the series only for the fights and the rest is boring and being presumptuous at the point him being n 1 and shit talk Sanji, because he fights withouth a weapon so is easy to kill (forgetting Luffy doesn't have weapons).

Relatable, I'd say I'm a mix of sanji and Usopp but I like zoro and Whitebeard the most, not only because they are strong and cool but mainly because I look up to them, and aim to be like them in some ways .
The "who is stronger" discussion is pointless. They have very different goals: Zoro to become the strongest swordsman, Sanji to find All Blue. They are not competing for the same things. Zoro is the type of person who enjoys fighting. Sanji enjoys cooking, and usually fights to protect/save his friends or family or any lady in danger. Both are equally important to Luffy and the crew.
sanji isn't just a cook, even though his goal is only to find All Blue, he also wants to be stronger to protect his friends. That's why he chose to use the RS to save his friends when they are in danger. Sanji getting stronger to protect his friends, Zoro getting stronger so he will be acknowledge even in heaven, Ichigo is fighting to protect his friends, Naruto is becoming stronger so people will acknowledge him, this just proof that One Piece is the best.
So look at yourself in the mirror and tell yourself you compared a Swordsman and Cook in strength 💀💀 the argument is pointless because it’s clear Zoro is far stronger than Sanji

That's exactly how Oda-sensei portrays them. If you look up the rules of bushido (justice, honor, self-control, courage, etc.), Zoro exemplifies it to a T. Sanji is more like the European knights we know - chivalrous, gallant, benevolent, a gentleman towards the ladies, very loyal. Both are great characters. When Oda-sensei gave them countries they'd come from Zoro was obviously a samurai from Japan and Sanji was a musketeer from France.

The reason why Sanji's situation is different than Usopp's is because he, just like Robin, believed that his actions were for the benefit of the crew, including their captain. That wasn't the case with Usopp.

My own type of personality tends to be more like Zoro's and I find great inspiration in his sense of honor and unbreakeable determination. On the other hand my own personal values align pretty well with Sanji's, specially with regards to women (I also practiced taekwondo for years and so it was only natural that I'd love his fighting style). With that being said, in all my 10 years of reading and watching One Piece I never understood those childish discussions and meaningless debates over these two characters and by the end of this journey it will probably stay like that. Edit: With regards to manliness, that's also a reason why I love the two. Zoro is more of the Chad-like, high testosterone, badass type of dude who doesn't take women seriously in a physical sense and it's not really interested in them or find them annoying (while also getting mad when someone harms one: like Enel with Robin), while Sanji is the more traditional, gentleman-like type of manliness, the one who loves women (or the archetype of the feminine) and is willing to forgive even their lies (thinking about Robin and Viola). Both also resonate deeply with me.
My personal take on it is that people tend project their view how sanji should be than what he is. everyone want their favorite character to be stronger but thats not have it follows in the story. It doesn't help that both Luffy and Zoro's Goals aline with strength and leadership (PK and greatest swordsman tittle) while Sanji's is on exploration (All blue).
I think the biggest thing that people tend to forget is that, even if its not stated out right, slowly over the story Zoro and Sanji have come to recognise each other as equals. They recognise each other as equals not because of their power, but their own individual devotions to their crew as they both cover one another by making up for the others weakness and bolstering their strengths.

the problem with zorofans is that when you state sanji's qualities over zoro like "faster" "cleverer" etc... they will try to make you believe that even in this fields zoro is better, they are so in denial i swear... it's obvious zoro is more brute power, but that doesn't mean he will destroy by a mile sanji because sanji uses his brain and is faster.

I like Mr Mroj and respect his research, but I also need to point out that, over 1000 chapters, Zoro and Sanji hang out together the most in many panels. Can’t take the surface value from the insulting conversation, many characters flow insulting conversation as a funny gags: Nami, Usopp, etc. They are hot-headed characters and they sometimes communicate thru these. As a reader, I find it funny and hilarious!
Being companions is different than being friends. Sure they have bonded in a weird way over the course of their adventure, but if it wasn't for luffy and the crew i doubt they would hang around as friends.

Besides, They are nakama. This word “nakama” (仲間 / なかま) in japanese means a lot of thing, very deep in companionship. luffy and sanji are nakama, luffy and zoro are nakama, zoro and sanji are also nakama. Then, it is not hard to understand they held no grunge even their like to bicker to each other. They are still nakama at the end of the day!

I'm pretty confident Oda will *never* give us any definitive answer or point of comparison here. The moment their rivalry really solidified was their contest on Little Garden over who could bring back more meat, and Oda went out of his way to highlight the parallel between that and how the giants' duel got started Zoro and Sanji will be forever going at it, just like Dorry and Broggy. Maybe one is stronger or maybe not, but either way the duel will never have a clear outcome
When I was a teen it was more One Piece vs Naruto screeching vs Zoro vs Sanji. I never delved into this 'in-fighting' push for either Zoro or Sanji, I am more in the camp of give Nami, Usopp, and Chopper some more moments. Let the weaklings shine!

Zoro and Sanji have different kind of rivalry, when they bumped in to each other they would start arguing and results in a fight. They are like dog and cat or oil and water, their argument is what makes the strawhat crew more interesting so I don't mind which one of them shines first in the strory, like Roger said to Pedro " Everyone has their own time to shine".
As a person that prefers Sanji over Zoro. Personally it was never about strength. It’s clear that Zoro is stronger than Sanji as he is the “number 2”. It was about a point you touched on in the video their code of living or “manliness”. I just feel more relatable with Sanji and I feel he represents who I am better which makes me feel closer to him. Some people are really, really obsessed with power-scaling, while others refuse to see Zoro as being anything less than equal to Luffy in terms of strength, (they seem to think that the series is still in Whiskey Peak, I guess?) seemingly viewing Sanji being treated as Zoro's equal like an insult.

Oda is a marketing genius. How he has managed to resist pitting these 2 against each other to ignite and divide the fanbase is more mysterious than the one piece itself.

I consider myself mostly a Zoro fan. I watched One Piece with a friend, and he was a truly Sanji fan, but when Whole Cake Island occured, I started accepting much more his opinion, and the same happened to my friend when Wano happened. I'm proud to say that we both improoved.
I never understood how anyone could dislike Zoro or Sanji. Both characters are well written and I’ve enjoyed their manly brotherhood ever since the start. I have a friend that I share the same bond with like Zoro and Sanji. We bicker and insult each other and we never show affection to each other but deep down both of us care about one another. So, I understand how GOda is writing both of them, they don’t need to use words to show how much they respect each other because actions speak louder than words.
To be honest I never realized that the rivalry was as toxic as you make it out to be. Personally, I like both of them. That being said, I do think that Zoro is portrayed as stronger.
I don’t see Zoro and Sanji dislike each other. From time to time the show demonstrates they care each other deeply and their bond is so unique and inexplicable. Their dynamic is divine! Why Zoro fans and Sanji fans are toxic to each other is beyond me! I love both of them. I just know one thing: missing any one of these characters in One Piece is disastrous to the series. Not only Zoro and Sanji, this extends to any strawhats.
Agreed, each of the Straw hats adds to the story in a way that it is incomplete without all of them. Those two do argue, but I see it as a sign that they are two different characters with different personalities rather than anything else.

I would state that their case is different only because Zeff seems to view Sanji as his son and Sanji see's Zeff as his actual father. Still, it is clear that they have respect for each other and care about what might happen to them. I have seen multiple instances in fiction, mostly in books where characters have a similar dynamic. Gather enough personalities together in one place and you are likely to find at least one pair who can tend to clash and the Strawhat's certainly have a diverse set of personalities. Probably due to being a diverse set of characters with different life experiences and goals.

Just out of curiosity, am I the only one who is curious about Zeff's past before meeting Sanji? We know that he was a famous pirate with a reputation who apparently fought using his legs in a similar manner to Sanji. We know that he has a logbook of the Grand Line implying that he has a great deal of experience there, and we know that he was seeking the All Blue that Sanji now seeks. Outside of that, I don't think we ever learned much about him and how he became the person he is now. Just some food for thought.

The most heated topics in One Piece are this (imo); - Zoro v Sanji - Mihawk v Shanks - Is Zoro the First Mate / Vice Captain / Right-hand man, etc. - How woman are drawn When I see those anyone making threads on any of those topics I don't even click on them. Those are great examples of flame bait topics. Also power scalers in general are pretty toxic. They're so caught up on who is stronger and what "shouldn't" be possible that I imagine they have a hard time enjoying the series as a whole.

People who say he is argue he was the first to join, he's taken leadership roles, and the times people in the series assumed he was. Pre timeskip, they had some back and forth where their strength in relation to each other was in question. They both didn’t seem to have any trouble in along park, though zoro was injured and Sanji was facing the guy with a higher bounty, in alabasta, they both won, but Sanji seemed more definitively above mr. 2, than zoro seemed definitively above mr. 1. In enies lobby, zoros opponent had a lightly higher dourki but was new to his zoan power, while Sanjis opponent had much more experience and mastery of a carnivorous zoan, but they both needed new moves to win and both were still ok enough to keep fighting. The argument for close to if not equal power was there. But in the new world? Zoro comes off as stronger so far, in ,y opinion, though the raid suit and Enma add new elements to this
I believe Sanji to be just as strong as Zoro and I like the 2 equally but I’ve seen loads of people Just trash on Sanji for little reason and praise Zoro as a god or something and not in a trolling way. And when I said that Sanji would be able to defeat Pika after they said he couldn’t,they called me “A Sanjitard” lol. There are some toxic Sanji fans but most of the toxic ones tend to be Zoro fans. One moment who brought both fandoms together is Thriller Bark and the "Nothing Happened". Obviously, it was a great moment for Zoro, but Sanji worrying afterwards truly reflects how deep they both care for each other.
I think people tend to forget that Zoro's literal life goal is to attain strength and so he spends all his time working towards that. His whole motive in the crew is to serve as a main fighting force and a secondary leader in case luffy is not present or lacking. It is important to admire his passion and dedication towards the way of the sword. On the other hand, Sanji is just the crew's cook. He spends his whole day either cooking or simping for Nami and Robin. Nowhere in his life goal does it imply that he needs to get stronger to achieve it and he, like almost everyone else in the crew, only gains strength to protect the dreams of the others. It is honestly impressive that he has such an attitude towards fighting and is still more than capable of keeping up with both Zoro and Luffy. With that being said, it isn't unreasonable to give a small edge to Zoro just because his whole thing is fighting. But not considering both characters to be incredible and equally capable is just insulting to the crew that Luffy chose and Oda wrote.
Not when we only have 2 Supreme Kings on the crew. Sanji was never potrayed to be on par with Luffy like Zoro has. All the variations of “He’s not even the captain and he’s this strong”, cutting through a wave using a combined attack with Luffy, being apart of the Supernova, taking both his own and Luffys pain, participating in rooftop, cutting kaido with Advanced Coq Haki, being a supreme king. It’s like you guys just don’t want to accept it

My point is that even after all that Sanji is still impressively strong and at least at the doorstep of strength that both Luffy and Zoro have attained, yet he doesn't spend his whole day training nor does he have an ambition that requires strength of him. He gains strength purely out of his strong love for others and that is commendable.

Sanji is pretty much like Might Guy in Naruto, who seeks approval of Kakashi and therefore creates a rivalry. Maybe Oda even makes it so openly clear now, that Zoro is stronger and even considered as captain level, to finally give Sanji a Might Guy moment, where everyone will acknowledge his hidden strength, but so far Zoro is the Kakashi character, strong admired and supporting the star of the story.

Honestly after WCI I think it's perfectly clear that just as Zeff is Sanji's "real" father, Zoro is Sanji's "real" brother. There are lots of parallels there between Zeff/Judge and Zoro/Sanji's brothers. Just like with Zeff, on the outside it appears that Sanji gets along terribly with him but deep down they have the deepest of bonds. Enough for Sanji to make Zoro the most important request he could in the end of Wano.

If INDIVIDUALS feel attacked by the ideals of another it is because they question themselves or where they lie within the two ideals.
Also, Yes Sanji is, at least currently until either receive more significant development there to remind Zoro that he is human, and he can't chase a strong Devil Fruit user too similarly in terms of power and skill.
Lastly, almost all characters are skilled enough to thrive in some way or another outside of their position. Which is what makes their dedication to each of their crews/ groups more impactful in terms of staying or switching sides.

I love every single Straw Hat; I generally love them all equally. Well, I may like Luffy and Brook and Chopper just a little bit more.
Shabondy was a good interaction too. When they're fighting the first Pacifista, Sanji notices Zoro's wounds from Thriller Bark haven't healed yet, so when they're running away from Sentoumaru, Kizaru and the other Pacifista, Sanji actually asks Franky to look after Nami (who he was originally guarding), and goes to help Zoro specifically because he knows he's too hurt to defend himself. They're brief, often silent and far-off between, but those moments of respect and care are always good to see.
But yes, like you said the Zoro/Sanji thing is interesting because while they do respect each other, and (deep down) care for each other, they're not really "friends" like the rest of the crew.

I found it interesting, that Sanji admitted that Zoro was right, when Zoro had his badass talk to the crew about Ruffy not being allowed to go and get Ussop before he apologizes.
Sanji even shut Nami down by doing so, because she was talking. I liked that moment for both of these characters.
It is even more interesting that Sanji's response and agreement is very underappreciated which might even be the point of his action - while Zoro is Luffy's second in command as well as partner in combat, Sanji works in the shadows and often by himself, so naturally he often is underappreciated. The fact that Sanji's input in that situation is more on subtle side and on surface overshadowed by Zoro's (kind of like entire Kuma's pain scene) speaks even more about the chef's nature in crew, being in background behind the foreground that is Luffy and Zoro. There is also the bounty situation.

I never thought I needed this until now-
Zorro and Sanji's whole in-character debate comes back to their treatment of women. I'm not even joking, the first time they EVER fight is when Nami pretends to betray the Strawhats. Zorro treats her as a credible threat, and Sanji is too busy thinking with his groin to do anything but roll over for her. That was the start of their bad blood.
This comes back to Zorro's backstory, where his whole MOTIVATION for becoming so strong in the first place is because of his childhood friend, who was constantly treated as less credible because she was simply born a girl. Because of this, Zorro treats women like equals, including equal threats and equal warriors. He will never disregard a threat because they were born a girl, the way his childhood friend was disregarded.
Sanji, meanwhile, had it beaten into his head as a child (by Zeff) to never hit a woman, etc, etc. When you add in his complete "white knight" attitude towards any attractive woman who crosses his path, it just makes the differences between the two that much more stark.
Also, only the women in his family treated Sanji with kindness

Same! I was so excited to see what the One Piece fandom was like when I got caught up to the manga, just to find out how much toxicity there was. One Piece is such a good story with amazing characters, and the fact that so many people prefer to only stick to Sanji vs Zoro is kinda sad.
I think it's just an interesting topic. I definitely agree people get really weird and obsessive over it, but aside from that it's a lot of fun actually arguing about them strength wise with someone who's actually constructive cause there are arguments on both sides.
It comes from a passion about the show and characters, I think. It's less the comic relief dynamic, more that both characters have a clear rivalry and large fanbase, and so there are lots of discussions about the perceived strength of both characters cause in both cases we are yet to really see either be pushed in the post-timeskip era.

sanji isn't just a cook, even though his goal is only to find All Blue, he also wants to be stronger to protect his friends. That's why he chose to use the RS to save his friends when they are in danger. Sanji getting stronger to protect his friends, Zoro getting stronger so he will be acknowledge even in heaven, Ichigo is fighting to protect his friends, Naruto is becoming stronger so people will acknowledge him, this just proof that One Piece is the best.

Sanji vs Zoro reminds me of learning about feudal Europe (chivalrous knights) and feudal Japan (honorable samurais) at the same time in middle school
That's exactly how Oda-sensei portrays them. If you look up the rules of bushido (justice, honor, self-control, courage, etc.), Zoro exemplifies it to a T. Sanji is more like the European knights we know - chivalrous, gallant, benevolent, a gentleman towards the ladies, very loyal. Both are great characters. When Oda-sensei gave them countries they'd come from Zoro was obviously a samurai from Japan and Sanji was a musketeer from France.

The reason why Sanji's situation is different than Usopp's is because he, just like Robin, believed that his actions were for the benefit of the crew, including their captain. That wasn't the case with Usopp.

My own type of personality tends to be more like Zoro's and I find great inspiration in his sense of honor and unbreakeable determination. On the other hand my own personal values align pretty well with Sanji's, specially with regards to women (I also practiced taekwondo for years and so it was only natural that I'd love his fighting style).
With that being said, in all my 10 years of reading and watching One Piece I never understood those childish discussions and meaningless debates over these two characters and by the end of this journey it will probably stay like that.
Edit: With regards to manliness, that's also a reason why I love the two. Zoro is more of the Chad-like, high testosterone, badass type of dude who doesn't take women seriously in a physical sense and it's not really interested in them or find them annoying (while also getting mad when someone harms one: like Enel with Robin), while Sanji is the more traditional, gentleman-like type of manliness, the one who loves women (or the archetype of the feminine) and is willing to forgive even their lies (thinking about Robin and Viola). Both also resonate deeply with me.
My personal take on it is that people tend project their view how sanji should be than what he is. everyone want their favorite character to be stronger but thats not have it follows in the story. It doesn't help that both Luffy and Zoro's Goals aline with strength and leadership (PK and greatest swordsman tittle) while Sanji's is on exploration (All blue).
I played soccer as a kid and very briefly studied Taekwondo. Sanji for the win.
One thing we all gotta admit is Zoro and Sanji both immensely immensely respect each others strength and as a person.
I think the biggest thing that people tend to forget is that, even if its not stated out right, slowly over the story Zoro and Sanji have come to recognise each other as equals. They recognise each other as equals not because of their power, but their own individual devotions to their crew as they both cover one another by making up for the others weakness and bolstering their strengths.

That’s their showing in friendship. I like Mr Mroj and respect his research, but I also need to point out that, over 1000 chapters, Zoro and Sanji hang out together the most in many panels. Can’t take the surface value from the insulting conversation, many characters flow insulting conversation as a funny gags: Nami, Usopp, etc. They are hot-headed characters and they sometimes communicate thru these. As a reader, I find it funny and hilarious!
Being companions is different than being friends. Sure they have bonded in a weird way over the course of their adventure, but if it wasn't for luffy and the crew i doubt they would hang around as friends.

They never exchange good conversation and even insulting language to each other, at least in the surface we witness in the show. But they truly care about each other. Besides, They are nakama. This word “nakama” (仲間 / なかま) in japanese means a lot of thing, very deep in companionship. luffy and sanji are nakama, luffy and zoro are nakama, zoro and sanji are also nakama. Then, it is not hard to understand they held no grunge even their like to bicker to each other. They are still nakama at the end of the day!

The moment their rivalry really solidified was their contest on Little Garden over who could bring back more meat, and Oda went out of his way to highlight the parallel between that and how the giants' duel got started

Zoro and Sanji have different kind of rivalry, when they bumped in to each other they would start arguing and results in a fight. They are like dog and cat or oil and water, their argument is what makes the strawhat crew more interesting so I don't mind which one of them shines first in the strory, like Roger said to Pedro " Everyone has their own time to shine".
As a person that prefers Sanji over Zoro. Personally it was never about strength. It’s clear that Zoro is stronger than Sanji as he is the “number 2”. It was about a point you touched on in the video their code of living or “manliness”. I just feel more relatable with Sanji and I feel he represents who I am better which makes me feel closer to him. Not that I dislike Zoro’s code. I respect it and love the character very much. I just wish the fans got along better than the characters do :).

I never understood how anyone could dislike Zoro or Sanji. Both characters are well written and I’ve enjoyed their manly brotherhood ever since the start. I have a friend that I share the same bond with like Zoro and Sanji. We bicker and insult each other and we never show affection to each other but deep down both of us care about one another. To be honest I never realized that the rivalry was as toxic as you make it out to be. Personally, I like both of them. That being said, I do think that Zoro is portrayed as stronger.

I don’t see Zoro and Sanji dislike each other. From time to time the show demonstrates they care each other deeply and their bond is so unique and inexplicable. Their dynamic is divine! Why Zoro fans and Sanji fans are toxic to each other is beyond me! I love both of them. I just know one thing: missing any one of these characters in One Piece is disastrous to the series. Not only Zoro and Sanji, this extends to any strawhats.
Agreed, each of the Straw hats adds to the story in a way that it is incomplete without all of them. Those two do argue, but I see it as a sign that they are two different characters with different personalities rather than anything else.

@@luffysanji9840 True Sanji and Zeff have interacted in a similar way. I would state that their case is different only because Zeff seems to view Sanji as his son and Sanji see's Zeff as his actual father. Still, it is clear that they have respect for each other and care about what might happen to them. I have seen multiple instances in fiction, mostly in books where characters have a similar dynamic. Gather enough personalities together in one place and you are likely to find at least one pair who can tend to clash and the Strawhat's certainly have a diverse set of personalities. Probably due to being a diverse set of characters with different life experiences and goals.
@@emperorofinception3571 Zoro and Zeff are quite similar in certain characteristics, both are stubborn, seldom to express their affection. It would be an extension or understandable for them to interact in similar way and different with other strawhats. This is the way he learnt and adopted for decade.
@@luffysanji9840 I suppose that makes sense. Each person has their own way of interacting with others and that depends on a variety of factors. Too long a list to put here. Just out of curiosity, am I the only one who is curious about Zeff's past before meeting Sanji? We know that he was a famous pirate with a reputation who apparently fought using his legs in a similar manner to Sanji. We know that he has a logbook of the Grand Line implying that he has a great deal of experience there, and we know that he was seeking the All Blue that Sanji now seeks. Outside of that, I don't think we ever learned much about him and how he became the person he is now. Just some food for thought.
Yeah I honestly hate that this toxic fandom who cares who is someone else favorite ? I love both characters equally i don't like anyone more than the other it's just makes me sad that people honestly think they just need to pick one favorite

When I see those anyone making threads on any of those topics I don't even click on them. Those are great examples of flame bait topics. Also power scalers in general are pretty toxic. They're so caught up on who is stronger and what "shouldn't" be possible that I imagine they have a hard time enjoying the series as a whole.

People who say he is argue he was the first to join, he's taken leadership roles, and the times people in the series assumed he was.
The whole thing is basically an endless cycle of the first two arguments.

Pre timeskip, they had some back and forth where their strength in relation to each other was in question. They both didn’t seem to have any trouble in along park, though zoro was injured and Sanji was facing the guy with a higher bounty, in alabasta, they both won, but Sanji seemed more definitively above mr. 2, than zoro seemed definitively above mr. 1. In enies lobby, zoros opponent had a lightly higher dourki but was new to his zoan power, while Sanjis opponent had much more experience and mastery of a carnivorous zoan, but they both needed new moves to win and both were still ok enough to keep fighting. The argument for close to if not equal power was there. But in the new world? Zoro comes off as stronger so far, in ,y opinion, though the raid suit and Enma add new elements to this

I believe Sanji to be just as strong as Zoro and I like the 2 equally but I’ve seen loads of people Just trash on Sanji for little reason and praise Zoro as a god or something and not in a trolling way. And when I said that Sanji would be able to defeat Pika after they said he couldn’t,they called me “A Sanjitard” lol. There are some toxic Sanji fans but most of the toxic ones tend to be Zoro fans. And just because Zoro has the highest percentage of toxic fans, a good 90% aren’t. I’m just tired of seeing people disrespect Sanji

Here's what I think.Sanji is way stronger than pica but I don't see him beating pica from his showings.He still lacks the destructive force needed.I see luffy in a similar situation,except that he's much more destructive.Characters like Zoro,law,doffy ........just name another decent character that can use cutting attacks are best against pica

The funny thing is the arguments about those two is more heated than the actual interactions between them.
One moment who brought both fandoms together is Thriller Bark and the "Nothing Happened".
Obviously, it was a great moment for Zoro, but Sanji worrying afterwards truly reflects how deep they both care for each other.
I think people tend to forget that Zoro's literal life goal is to attain strength and so he spends all his time working towards that. His whole motive in the crew is to serve as a main fighting force and a secondary leader in case luffy is not present or lacking. It is important to admire his passion and dedication towards the way of the sword.
On the other hand, Sanji is just the crew's cook. He spends his whole day either cooking or simping for Nami and Robin. Nowhere in his life goal does it imply that he needs to get stronger to achieve it and he, like almost everyone else in the crew, only gains strength to protect the dreams of the others. It is honestly impressive that he has such an attitude towards fighting and is still more than capable of keeping up with both Zoro and Luffy.
With that being said, it isn't unreasonable to give a small edge to Zoro just because his whole thing is fighting. But not considering both characters to be incredible and equally capable is just insulting to the crew that Luffy chose and Oda wrote.
Not when we only have 2 Supreme Kings on the crew. Sanji was never potrayed to be on par with Luffy like Zoro has. All the variations of “He’s not even the captain and he’s this strong”, cutting through a wave using a combined attack with Luffy, being apart of the Supernova, taking both his own and Luffys pain, participating in rooftop, cutting kaido with Advanced Coq Haki, being a supreme king. It’s like you guys just don’t want to accept it
@@Gol.DRichOfficial Brother that's exactly what I said. Zoro is of course stronger and is always shown to be stronger or at least equal to Luffy. My point is that even after all that Sanji is still impressively strong and at least at the doorstep of strength that both Luffy and Zoro have attained, yet he doesn't spend his whole day training nor does he have an ambition that requires strength of him. He gains strength purely out of his strong love for others and that is commendable.

@@Gol.DRichOfficial Bruh Zoro is far far weaker compared to Luffy rn. Stop caping and fanboying. Zoro is stronger than Sanji only because he has Coq haki. Thats it. If not for that, current Sanji would be stronger just cuz of his modifications since even before he was weaker by a bit. Ofc with Coq haki Zoro is stronger, not by a mile but by a fair amount. Ay the end of the day, every random mf gain a Coq haki so Sanji might too and he need that power to move forward since enemies will become much stronger. But so do a Zoro become even stronger. So its always gonna be Zoro > Sanji, but not that much that Zoro would be significantly stronger and there wouldn't be any argue of that

Sanji is pretty much like Might Guy in Naruto, who seeks approval of Kakashi and therefore creates a rivalry. Maybe Oda even makes it so openly clear now, that Zoro is stronger and even considered as captain level, to finally give Sanji a Might Guy moment, where everyone will acknowledge his hidden strength, but so far Zoro is the Kakashi character, strong admired and supporting the star of the story.
I was thinking the samething. Especially since he told Kuma that despite the Word Government not considering him a threat, he'll become the most troublesome Strawhat to them in the future.
