I found this method of brewing works really well for me to especially using Coopers kits. The grains definitely freshen it up and helps with covering any remaining extract taste from the kit. Temperature control during fermentation is a big plus aswell.
@@splashyreactsThat's very low. Did you add sugar or enhancer to the kit? if it hasn't finished fermenting, you may want to keep those bottles somewhere out of the way!
@G-townbrewer yeah I added the brewhancer that came with the kit. I tried to restart the yeast, but nothing. I'm keeping the bottles in the cupboard and praying for no bottle bombs.
Great video! I too just don't have the time for AG brewing tend to pimp kits. I just can't brew a kit beer without tweaking something. I've just bought a can of Bootmakers which I intend to dry hop quite heavily. Bit concerned that you found it overly bitter, especially as you inadvertently added too much water. Always interesting to experiment though!
Thanks for watching. I've made some cracking brews by pimping the kits, maybe not as good as AG would be, but all same excellent beers. On reflection, I think I may have added to bitterness of this brew in the boil/hopstand. I'll be doing something similar for my next brew which will be a Morgan's Pacific Pale Ale, which I'll pimping with 100g of Falconer's Flight hops. Look out for the video in the coming weeks! All the best, and Cheers!
Hey good vid . Would love to o all grain but do not have time . This is awesome way to pimp your kit . 6 weeks on wow m8 awesome. Completely changes a kit to above premium standard ,better than any beer I have tried in a pub . Cheers man
Thanks mate. Glad you enjoyed it. It's amazing how much difference a few grains, hops and and decent yeast makes. If you like stout, check out my latest video for Coopers Stout - it's an absolute banger! Cheers.
@@G-townbrewer ye definitely. I just have no time to full grain . Alot of no it all about in this hobby . Going check your stout out . I did a liquorice stout from wilko stout kit with East golding hops ,dark dme, it was fricking awesome Take care Carl
Gday from down under I found the same with that kit I just wasn’t satisfied. You should try the brewA ipa I reckon it’s a good kit to do what you have done there with
Gday. I will try the BrewA IPA. I'm gradually making my way through the Coopers range and have been really happy with most of them. The 86 Day Pilsner is one of my faves so far.
@@G-townbrewer yeah they aren’t to bad for tin beers. Morgan’s and black rock are really good. I’ve been working my way through the muntons range and some of the specialty type ones like courage directors and woodofords they make a great brew! I’ve really started brewing all grain a lot but I really love a kit brew and seeing what results I can get. Anyway take care and happy brewing
Yes, correct. Just chill in sink with some cold water, changing the water when it becomes warm. As you're not cooling a large volume of wort, this works fine.
You could do, yes, but I add Harris Pure Brew anyway which contains a yeast nutrient. I keep thinking I'll make some turbo cider with the all Coopers yeast I have.
@@G-townbrewer not made turbo for a while , got 16ltr of AJ upstairs . I'm about to set off 2 pimped coopers kits an original pale ale and a stout for my new Series X ,but might do a turbo with the coopers too
@@BarFlyBrewing I've always used Crossmyloof cider yeast for my Turbos, but keep meaning to try an ale yeast as I hear it comes out less dry. I did a dry hopped (with cascade) turbo recently and will upload the video soon once I've tasted it. Happy brewing!
@@G-townbrewer i made a turbo cider with 19l of tesco juice and used MJ M12 kveik yeast. Back sweetened and it turned out really fruity, yeast added an orangy tang to it. (Had it kegged in a week too!)
I don’t have a local HBS, so I have to order online. I’ve always been happy with the ingredients from Crossmyloof, Malt Miller and Brew Day, but there are plenty of others out there. Cheers!
@@G-townbrewer I''ve bought all the ingredients to make this or one very similar to it, instead of the pale malt extract i've got a caramel malt extract. After watching loads of videos i'm supprised you never sparged the grains to extract more sugars from them, I will be doing this with my brew and then make up the ferment liquor to 25 litres/5 gallons. Any thought on these slight variations. Cheers Paul .
Sparging the specialty grains is not going to make much difference, but do what you fancy, it’s your brew. I’m sure it will turn it great. If I was to do it again, id add the hops to slightly cooled wort (about 80 c - adjust with some cold Water) and steep for 10 Mins, so as not to add any more Bitterness. Happy brewing and cheers!
A couple of litres should be enough if you are just steeping them. But if you are doing a mini boil and adding some hops I'd go with about 5 litres maybe.
The colour come from using too much Crystal and the bitterness come from using too much hops, I've done that kit a few times and it was never bitter, only added hops can make it more bitter you cant blame the kit for that one mate
Yep, I make you right there. I didn't mind the colour from the Crystal. But in hindsight, I think the Nelson Sauvin hops were too high AA/too much for this method and did impart too much bitterness. I'll give the kit another go sometime...maybe with just a dry hop next time though. Cheers.
I have done the same in the past pimping kits with multiple boil hops and dry hopping The kits all seem to be under hopped and mild any bitterness comes from the additions
Please, more videos of mixing Kits and grains, that's superb interesting
More to come!

I bottled my morgans blue mountain lager yesterday. Threw this in my fermenter last night with some brewhancer 2. Fingers crossed.
Yeah I enjoyed the Morgans Blue Mountain. Good luck with the brew!
@G-townbrewer thanks. My morgans stopped around 2.1%, but hopefully, it's gonna be ok in the bottles with the carb drops.

HI Thanks so much for sharing. So a plate chiller don't has to be involved? just use prepared ice water top wort up to 20L?
Yes, correct. Just chill in sink with some cold water, changing the water when it becomes warm. As you're not cooling a large volume of wort, this works fine.
Didn't have the volume up high enough at first, thought you were adding Crystal Meth and Carrot Peel... 🙂
