It's a long time since i've owned a brand new bike, but when you mentioned oil it made me think - does your bike have that oil in that needs to be changed after a few hundred miles for running in?
Scratch that; I've just got to 8:41 and you answered my question anyway ;)
This was bought at 9,000 miles, otherwise it most likely would have needed fresh oil for sure!
