Quake III Arena is a 1999 multiplayer-focused first-person shooter developed by id Software. It is the third game in the Quake series; it differs from previous games by excluding a story-based single-player mode and highly focusing on multiplayer gameplay. The single-player mode is played against computer-controlled bots. It features music composed by Sonic Mayhem and Front Line Assembly founder Bill Leeb.
Notable features of Quake III Arena include the minimalist design, lacking rarely used items and features, the extensive customizability of player settings such as field of view, texture detail and enemy model, and advanced movement features such as strafe-jumping and rocket-jumping.
The game was highly praised by reviewers who, for the most part, described the gameplay as fun and engaging. Many liked the crisp graphics and focus on multiplayer. Quake III Arena has also been used extensively in professional electronic sports tournaments such as QuakeCon, Cyberathlete Professional League, DreamHack, and the Electronic Sports World Cup.

Every sound of this game is permanently etched into my brain from countless hours of non stop gameplay. The game of my middle school years 100%
I am so jealous. My equivalent is Team Fortress 2
I know right
Same for me! I used to play the s**t out of it. If you also played a lot online, we might had deathmatched countless of times
90s kid baby lucky so much
That's the one thing that his game did absolutely perfectly. We're so used to the best graphics a machine can push...but those sounds do indeed get into your head. I came to the comments to say how much I loved that grenade launcher sound effect...it's both terrifying when you're not expecting and thrilling when you frag someone with it. Such a satisfying sound effect.
Quake 3 and Unreal Tournament were the pinnacles of FPS back in the day.

Unreal tournament was incredible because it ran on even a potato pc , quake 3 was something else though eh
@@valley_robot Unreal was incredible because it was incredible, and it not only ran better but it looked better aswell.
Yeah maybe it had slightly better graphics but the gameplay in quake was fat superior imo
This game brings back so many memories, especially using a dial up modem for the internet! My parents phone bill was sky high !
I was 1 month old while this game came out!
How nostalgic!
same here! dial-up 56kb/s , ping 200-300 :)) anyway, great memories also..
@@tedwine back then 100kbps was soooo fast
@@garethbane5782 in our country we had at that times ISDN 64 or 128, it was massive upgrade against 56 analog, because it was digital and the ping was about 50. But it was way too expensive, only rich people could afford it.
i made my dad's phone bill £1000 for 1 year back then, playing ultima online and half-life!
This game is a masterpiece, one of the best of all times
Oh yes i love this game over the years! 🤩🤩🤩🤩
my uncle showed my father (and us kids) Quake 3 Arena and i will never, ever forget that moment, hell i even remember the arena he opened (1:15)
some time later i was home playing with a friend (had a very limited PC playtime permitted, strictly 30 min and sure not everyday, which seems to have turned into my addiction today) and when our "legal" playtime ended, my friend and I shut down the PC, went to the living room, realized my father just got asleep on the couch and... dude
...you can imagine, WE WENT RIGHT BACK and played for 8 HOURS in silent laughs and whispers. that is my peak moment in childhood
Imagine making history with just a simple square root algorithm.
how?
@@pabulodesouzaloiola9751 Check Quake 3's fast inverse square root algorithm.
@@TotalImmort7l you sir are a man of culture, i checked the comments to see if anyone was here after watching the video about the inverse square root algorithm :D

Guys please explain
I still play this lol. Nothing poisoned like: loot boxes, DLC, matchmaking or coming out of the closet stories. Just fragging. Guns feel amazing and not flaccid like Champions. You get pwned till u git good. No hand holding like kill assists or any of that crap. Long Live Quake
@@moltenwood check out the quake 3 defrag community, even after so many years they still find out new stuff! Did you now, that when you shoot a plasma dot on the ground that you hit yourself without getting dmg, the ground turns for a few ms into slideable ground, that you can slingshot yourself with .

Agreed brother, these were the days of causally fragging in hellish worlds that only ID software can bring to life. Doom eternal did a decent job of brining that, can’t lie. No disrespect to Quake Champions, but the worlds felt more like a World of Warcraft expansion.
Dude same! I love this game
Is it possible to play by yourself? I don't have any friends... 🙄
Agree with the long live quake but not with the homophobia
Miss this f..king game
Get quake live on steam
Yeah, mate you can get Quake Live, there are many servers active!
we're still playin it, join us
@DeadMeme hey hi how can i download this quake 3 game now ....plz say me how to plzy this game i tried so many way but failed i love this game...plz help me in this
As kids about age 12-13, me and my boys used to have sleep overs often and game. There was 4 of us. Me and one mate would play this on Dreamcast for 24 hours straight and we still were not tired.
So many memories... Brought tears to my eyes... I was 11/12 yo when I was playing that game, back in 2001-2002. Thanks for sharing
Same!
I remember playing this game during my high school years in the early 2000s, man time flys for sure. I hope to someday get a good gaming labtop just to play this game again.
Dude what gaming laptop? you can run his game on your phone even a fridge or a potato could run it

It ran perfectly on Dreamcast it'll run perfectly on anything
This was best shooter game one of my favorite Quake series
The best Shooter Game of all Time!

We played it on every LAN party at a friends house back in the day. I always thought I was good at the game because I won in deathmatch more often than not against the other 15 y. o. boys... but I wasnt. 😅 Love the clean graphics and stage design. No distractions. Just on point gameplay.
I also played this game on LAN
I remember trashtalking with those bots they're damn responsive.
When I played this as a kid, it blew my mind. I almost thought they were real people responding lol
Literally the first game i remember playing even in preschool. So many memories of discovering every map's querks and best spots.

Quake 3 is still running believe it or not, Put in the old CD and it's updating Maps, New Maps on 2 Servers, I'm playing only one other player, CHECK IT OUT Quakers, Frag Ya Later!!!
finally i found the name of the game i played when i have 6 years old good times
Even after 20 fucking years I feel like playing this game
I used to play this game a lot in my school days, I played it so much that I could even memorize the entire map and where the next enemy would pop up
Sounds of nostalgia...Miss those times
this was my first pc game i ever played with my uncle when i was little countless times i’ve hear my cousins or other uncles scream in the other room or my uncle tell them dont "blame the game for your skills” god the good ol dayx
Still my all time favorite computer game. We used to play it at the office on our old desktops P2 350 mhz on an Asus P2B motherboard and 256 mb of ram. Couldnt maximize the graphics as the frame rate dropped too much.
one of the greatest multiplayer online game all time this game brings nothing but great memories
Ya this is high on my list as one of the greatest online multiplayer game . Used to play this so much
You DRAGGEDDDDD it lmao. You never played Cod, Halo or CSGO?
@@Lethal_Swordsman i have and those are great games especially cod but you are just refering to graphics the speed that you play in this game is second to none which made this game a blast and the maps were way more enternaning then the maps on cod

@@MegaTomsky PERFECT
This must be the same engine used for Return to Castle Wolfenstein. This is actually a very new and significant revelation to me, I don't know much about old school FPS games and RtCW happens to be one of the first ones I ever played, so it's very nostalgic to me. I never played any of the Quake games until MUCH later in life and I'm only now seeing Quake 3 for the first time. How awesome!
Quake 3 is the basis for literally hundreds of games, including the original Call of Duty.
@@Wobbothe3rd That's awesome.
a lot of good games use this engine, its probably the best 'feeling' engine of any. I no longer care about call of duty game because they stopped using this engine
Star Wars Jedi Knight 2 and Star Wars Jedi Knight Academy also use the Quake 3 engine.
@@MIKandJEAN What the hell lol
Nostalgia. All in harmony. The shotgun reload sound just fit perfectly, whenever any weapon is picked up.
Welcome to Quake 3 Arena....!!...damn the nostalgia, always a great fan of bfg, rocket launcher and the one and only Railgun
You look at this game and it's still a piece of art! They should have made a Quake 3 Battle Royale game.....it would be a hit...
I remember being disappointed because I thought I bought an actual game with levels like normal Quake
Yup I was also disappointed to begin with but defo got my money's worth of entertainment in the end
I was the exact opposite, I really only enjoyed playing Quake 1 and 2 with bots or in multiplayer by the time Quake 3 was released, and I loved playing through the Q3 SP. I would have been disappointed with another monster shooter at that point, like how I preferred UT2003 to Unreal 2.
@@Wobbothe3rd I actually never played Unreal 2 . Just looked like it didn’t have the same feel as the first
remember picking this game up on release and my PC struggling so hard to run it.
I still play tf out of this and love it, my parents got me into this game when I was like 8 years old, been playing since 😂🤷🏻♀️🤙🏼 I'm not a fan of your chosen cross-hair though 🤣😝😊
I pass exactly the same thing as you, I met this game with the same reason and came here because of nostalgia :')
(sorry for bad English)
I am not only new but fairly young so when I bought the game on a semi whim and it is fun. When the game is getting competitive adrenaline just pumps in and man.
I remember bringing over my PC and my monitor just to play this game with my friends. 20 years ago.
even the sound the water makes when the player walks through it is etched in my head forever. I remember each sound crystal clear. All this while recent weeks have been a blur.
This game man. This game fed whole neighboorhoods
Oh, the nostalgia 😭 impacts are BIG w/ Quake
It's funny how the Quake 3 engine is still used today for Call of Duty. (Yes, the Quake 3 engine was used for every Call of Duty game, only modified.)
This and counter strike where my entire gaming childhood
This is such a good looking game for 1999
I can’t believe how good this game looks for 1999 also it is 1 year older than me. I’ve been playing fps since cod world at war so this vid is so interesting to see the roots of cod
I learned how to use mouse because of this game♥️♥️
90's player wil remember this :)
I will never forget the Sound effects in this game
I am so sad that I never got to grow up in the golden age of gaming. I'm 23. The closest I have is Team Fortress 2. I really love Quake though and pray classic arena shooter style becomes popular again.
Man this game was so good!
Still is so good.
how do i get this result? I have a 43 inch monitor and with the "desktop resolution" in Quake Live settings the graphics are grainy, even though the graphics settings are all maxed out.
Thank you
Had this for Sega Dreamcast. Spent so many hours of my teen years playing this.
Yeah, same here. It was a hit game Dreamcast needed and delivered very well.
i still remember, at 2 am told my friend last game ........ 8 hour later, my friend woke up and i still playing.
Thats really good for 1999. It would be fine by 2022 standards as well

Rocket arena 3 during 2000 to 2005 were some good years. More people would remember me if I didn't get hooked on picking a new alias so much. So trivial but I remember people raging when they got beat by someone they didn't know or couldn't associate with a good clan LOL.
I played as thajoka and later on just used Travis. All the clans back in the day....{KYA}, -=CD, [T2K], XD, RUIN, [x], 4I (ii.ii), >>SMF, TNA (the fun but semi serious all girl clan that did do matches) and I know I'm missing a ton I can't recall instantly.
