- As somebody who has been listening to A7X since the early thousands, I thought it would be fun to remix songs from 'Life is But a Dream' in the style of City of Evil/ Self Titled/ Nightmare.
As we're on song 5 from LIBAD, I've tried to write this with the other tracks in mind. If I'd just gone with the typical duelling guitars and heavy riffs then things could risk getting stale. So this one is a little different, especially toward the end!

Vocals were isolated using AI, Drums are GetGood Invasion, Guitars played through Neural DSP Archetype Plini with GGD Zilla Cabs, and Bass is played through Sansamp and Darkglass B7K.

This sounds more like a modern metal version of A7X if they had pushed the boundaries more. reminds me of synth pop. Really love it bro.

Was considering attempting this one myself, I didn't think you were gonna touch mattel since it already sounds a bit like their old stuff (at least when compared to the rest of the album). But this shit is way better than anything I could've come up with.
It certainly was a challenge! I ended up deleting an entire draft and starting again 😅 It really helped to sit with a guitar and sing it myself to choose the voicings 🤘 I’m sure you could do a great job on it, give it a go!

in fairness, A7X never really had a particular style. the only 2 you can really argue sound similar are the white album and city of evil but even then they are both really different. just not as different as the rest of them are from eachother

The effort and talent you have here is super clear - but I think this would’ve sounded better/more accurate to their 2000s sound with real unsampled drums, just comes off a bit too robotic. You’re very talented though keep it up 👌🏼
i really started out not being a fan of these but i got to say, the past 3 have been pretty damn solid. kinda makes me feel i was a little too harsh with the first 2. they also suffer the same issue the actual album has which is that very few songs stand well on their own without the rest of the album.

As for we love you, I honestly don't think there was anything you could have done to make me like that one because I don't like the original. It's the only song on the album I really just don't like.

Hey mate! A lot of the magic is in the Cabs, I switched the cabs off in Archetype and used GGD Zilla, huge improvement.
I tend to start with the Simon Grove preset in Archetype and then play around depending on the song!

Thanks for watching! The AI had trouble with some of the vocals here, as they were recorded with a lot of distortion, I struggled to get much power out of them but I think you’re right. I must’ve done 3-4 drafts before committing to this level 😅

Let’s be real, Mattel is a masterpiece. This is well done, but…would probably have ended up on Diamonds in the Rough if anything. It just sounds like they’re rehashing the same riffs.
