This is Music! I don't really care what people say about it. This song has meaning in it. Just a close listen from a musicians perspective and you can feel and hear what the artist themselves had in mind while playing this.
But it's the abridged version because it's hard to entertain a bunch of casual listeners who just want to hear Unholy Confessions and Hail to the King with a mostly instrumental track.
Tool varies a lot according to albums, some are made as social criticism, others in relation to science, religion and much more. Tool is a band that is not limited
i put off listening to this song for so long just because the length, finally listened today and i almost started tearing up towards the end. definitely one of if not their best work
This album does not rely on catchy choruses and recycled songs of the band's past. Instead it showcases true artistry. I believe this album will hold up to the test of time. It's timeless essence and sincerity is felt throughout the entire album. It kept me here when i no longer felt I had a reason to stay...
@@Ty91681 That would be great but most bands lack the ability. And that's ok. I would cringe if I ever heard about an unreleased ProgRock album by the Ramones exists! Lol. I honestly think I wouldn't listen to it. Everything I like about the Ramones would be ruined forever lol. 🙃
Holy shit, 6:50 onwards is just..... mind-bending. I really wish M Shadows extended the first lyric section a bit more. The melody and his vocal work behind it is insanely perfect.
It's very rare to find songs that go past the 6 minute mark and keep my interest throughout the whole thing, this one goes nearly 16. Barely started to listen this band about 2 years ago but I think it's my all time favorite that I've stumbled upon so far.
Why? People kill and get killed because of worthless politicians. If it's stupid to believe in gods, how much more stupid is it to believe in politicians, when there is vastly more evidence they are evil and corrupt?
If you want suggestions for more of their best songs; try these: The Stage, Buried Alive, Save Me, Fiction, A Little Piece of Heaven, Sidewinder, The Wicked End, Strength of the World, God Damn, M.I.A., Critical Acclaim, Higher, Nightmare, Coming Home, Acid Rain, Paradigm, Sunny Disposition, I Won't See You Tonight (Part 1) and I Won't See You Tonight (Part 2). You will be amazed at the difference of the last two songs, even though they are a two-part song.
This is absolutely my favorite Avenged Sevenfold song ever written, next would be The Stage. I've been following them since City of Evil, and while I love and respect their previous and amazing albums, there's a magic, maturity, and awareness that leaves me in awe. M. Shadow's voice and the guitar virtuosity perfectly represent the conceptual idea that surrounds the album and really gives that surreal tone of the universe, existence, and life.
Ye well Greatest show on earth is good and has a similar lenght comparing to Shine on your crazy Diamond, but damn it doesn't sound as good as this imo
it is a bit weird that both songs are epic duration, both science themed and both contain lines read by a well known scientist in the songs chosen field :)
The combination of the guitar, drums, and monologue at the end always gives me goosebumps. Fucking A man, Avenged Sevenfold knows how to make music that surges straight to the soul.
Firstly, what an absolutely incredible song. But it solidifies a thought I've had for a long while. Imagine what we could achieve if we focused our thoughts and all as a species pulled together to look beyond our planet and possibly solar system. Instead of fucking about with petty indiscretions towards each other, and just thinking of our own selfish desires. We could do so much more. It's depressing to think about.
This band is surely the only one that can cause indiscrebable things in me, just like Pink Floyd did years ago... They are above what can't even imagine other bands. Thank you for make me discover myself differently everyday by listening your work !
Is the middle part of the song (with lyrics) about the expanding universe? "Sailing away beyond the reach of anyone" - as universe is expanding, more and more places become unreachable "Far beyond the dreams of everyone" - because we can never know what's beyond the edge of the observable universe "No light to follow" - everything beyond the edge is expanding away faster than the speed of light Am I reading into it too much ?
by far my favorite by them. Wasn't even looking forward to a new A7X album this year, completely lost interest after Hail to the King. This album has my interests reinvested in this band.
Sean Albert He wasn't shit, go have a listen to Not Ready To Die. The drumming in Hail To The King was slow by M. Shadows demands. A7X let Arin go because of creative difference, not because he was shit.
Sean Albert aarin wasn't shit in any way.. he is not the rev or portnoy or brooks, but he is like 25 yo he is so young.. the drums in httk was a descision of all the members to be like that, if you saw any of the live shows with aarin you could tell that he is a pretty good drummer, he was nailing the rev parts pretty good.. so he isn't shit by any means!!
first time I listened to this I was on acid and couldn't stop crying because the ending really got me thinking... only avenged sevenfolds music does this to me
A couple of Dream Theater songs does this to me The Great Debate - Got me thinking of Moral Ambiguity In the Name of God - I started overthinking about a character named Mami Namami from a show called Rent a Girlfriend and how extreme her actions would hypothetically scale when trying to ruin the MC and it's not pretty (And Rent a Girlfriend is a "Logic of a Loveblind MC and his Girls so any Logic will be ignored" type of show)
10:53 and after its pure bliss. a7x managed to to traverse from the awesome and cheesy songs(bat country, afterlife, nightmare etc) to these genius eargasmic pieces of art. This album is so complex and deep with sooo many unique touches to it. My hats off
God it's been so great watching them get better and better and better. They're on a fucking new level that I can't even wrap my head around. I love them so much.
Been a fan since 2003, seen them live 5 times. This is by far my favorite song by them now. It is like one big grand masterpiece and also the longest song they have written to date. 15 minutes of awesome!
I was sad to see Brooks leave Bad Religion because they're my favorite band, but when I heard him on this song I knew he was a perfect for this band. Genius drumming here.
After listening to this album I see how I have grown up with Avenged Sevenfold from playing cod non stop with people I had never met in real life blasting Nightmare and Self Titled; To now pursuing a career in aviation in hopes to one day lead the first expedition to Mars or something just as groundbreaking. I am just in awe, its as if this album is a manifestation of my thoughts. I am sure others feel the same. A7X.
Adalton Fernando I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who thought of dream theater when I heard this. 15 minutes long. Lots of instrumentals and melodies. innovative/risky guitar solos Great lyrics. Portnoy definitely left a piece of himself with A7X.
I've seen some confusion in the comments, so for those who don't know, Neil deGrasse Tyson wrote his speech at the end himself, specifically for this song, not M. Shadows. Tyson is that much more of a badass in my mind, knowing that he is also an A7X fan! Also, Brooks Wackerman is straight fucking awesome in this song, especially during the speech. 'Exist' might be my new favorite A7X, more so than 'A Little Piece of Heaven,' I can't stop listening to this song! \m/
Actually, this largely comes from an essay he wrote for his column "Universe" for the April 2007 issue of the _Natural History_ magazine. I recognize the words, and I just checked my copy. The sentences are rearranged a little, but it matches pretty much verbatim. #TheMoreYouKnow
HoeeSayy You are a straight up fucking moron. That speech was both composed and spoken by CARL SAGAN in the original cosmos TV show in the 80's. Get tf off RUclips with that dumb shit.
@@Michigander269 Man, it is even on Neil deGrasse Tyson's wikipedia page, that he featured on this song. So don't call everyone a moron, you should check it first that you're right
NDT isn't an a7x fan unfortunately. They wanted a sound byte from an old TV show, but were denied the rights to use it. Tyson was their second choice. They approached him with the offer and Tyson asked if it would be for educational purposes or if anyone could learn from it, and avenged basically said that's what they want, and Tyson said if it will help educate someone or get them to learn then I'll do it. He has no affiliation with, or even knew who a7x was prior.
as a spiritual being walking the human path..... this song totally rocks, we are all one, we are dust and unto dust we shall return. earth is none other than a school, a miriad of lessons we agreed to before incarnating here.
Decided to give this song a listen for the first time laying in bed last night. When the singing came in it startled me a bit. Then the song was ao long and trippy I started drifting to sleep, then Tyson at the end kind of tripped me out and woke me up. Amazing song.
I like to think when i hear an Avenged Sevonfold song i dnt like initially, i say maybe its not the song, maybe its just im not ready for it yet so i wait a while then re-listen until i like it. Theres no bad song by them just different listening times.
SadieBear the Steeler Fan Heiress I think I'm losing intelligence from all you dumb fucks that keep saying Neil DeGrasse Tyson. Its NOT! It is however CARL SAGAN. Maybe look it up?
I was at a friends with a few buddies and some people I didn't know. one of them was this cute girl. anyways the conversation turns to music and she brings up A7x and I asked what her favorite songs are. and she replies "second heartbeat and exist." That's when I knew; and that's when I asked her out.
RG408 you're right you got me. It's really amazing you where able to see what's going on in my life because you know me and you know my life. When you just found a comment on a youtube video in which the profile has a fake name and the profile picture is a distorted image of JFK. But you know me right?
I love the whole song, but especially the end gives me goosebumps every time I hear it... just the voice and the conviction with which he recites this manifest of human curiosity and enlightenment is enough to make me want to hear it again for the first time
TBH I would listen through an hour long speech by Tyson while the band plays the same four chords over and over, while Brooks goes insane, and love every second of it
This has been placed on my top ten list over the past year. I thought it was a tad wack when i heard the rest of the album first but this song grabbed me. Roman sky can catch me too when im drunk
So many sad people in the comments saying “15 minutes so long” lol like seriously? How have you managed to like metal and avoid a 20+ minute song this long? Those are the best songs right there you’re truly missing out if its taken this long
I like to think Neil Degrasse Tyson is an A.I. that was slowly being created throughout the album and finally becomes self aware in this song and goes off on us.
ZygmanFroid except that wasn't Tyson you idiot. Its CARL SAGAN. The fact that I actually have to tell that to half the people who commented is pretty pathetic.
I think this song sums up Avenged Sevenfold for a lot of people. Like someone will refer Avenged Sevenfold, they’ll act like they’re interested, but they’re not. Eventually they’ll cave in and look it up. The first part of the song is what they see, and it looks intriguing. Then the further they explore the more intense it gets and the better it sounds. Then finally, towards the end of the song, they decide that they’re going to get a tattoo of the Avenged Sevenfold Skull with wings and they show up to every live event and start creating their own t-shirts etc. xD, It’s kind of true for some people, like once they hear a song they start becoming interested, and then they listen to other songs, and that happens for a while, and then it becomes one of their favorite bands. To be honest the history of the band is pretty cool, and the fact that it’s fan base is growing larger everyday is awesome.
I'm an old school 80s thrash and Iron Maiden head. There are very few bands afterwards that I accept in my little music world , just a handful. Pantera, L.O.G., Killswitch, Mastadon, etc. These guys after City of evil vaulted to the top of the list and haven't let me down since, love these guys, definitely if you are stranded on a desert island and you can only have 10 bands to listen to, they are comfortably in that list, awesome badassery 🤘🤘🤘
Preach brother, makes me happy to see A7X get the recognition for being the virtuosic powerhouse they are. Arguably the best band of the 21st century. 🤘😎🤘

This is Music! I don't really care what people say about it. This song has meaning in it. Just a close listen from a musicians perspective and you can feel and hear what the artist themselves had in mind while playing this.
*THIS SONG IS SUCH A MASTERPIECE!*
The last four minutes is probably what I'd listen to if I want to contemplate life.
Also, Brooks just went wild there.
I couldn't find a comment I agree with more
Dani K In that case you definitely have to check out Swim To The Moon by BTBAM
Também me lembrou muito BTBAM, sou do Brasil, abraços.
Pablo Campos Curitiba Brasil. Vamos amigo!
that's what im doing now
Fun Fact: This is M. Shadows favorite Avenged Sevenfold song.
Daniela Caban sucks they dont do it live, that would kick ass
Elijah Vance NOW THEY DO! THEY ADDED IT TO THE SETLIST FOR THE NORTH AMERICAN TOUR
James Gorman REALLY?!?!
Elijah Vance yup they just played it in Tennessee
But it's the abridged version because it's hard to entertain a bunch of casual listeners who just want to hear Unholy Confessions and Hail to the King with a mostly instrumental track.
I need more science metal please
Ayreon
The Ocean
Have you listened to the Greatest Show on Earth by Nightwish? It's very similar to this song
TOOL
Tool varies a lot according to albums, some are made as social criticism, others in relation to science, religion and much more. Tool is a band that is not limited
Those last 5 minutes (starting at, like, 10:30)...
Brooks just goes *OFF* and I am HERE for it.
i put off listening to this song for so long just because the length, finally listened today and i almost started tearing up towards the end. definitely one of if not their best work
This album does not rely on catchy choruses and recycled songs of the band's past. Instead it showcases true artistry. I believe this album will hold up to the test of time. It's timeless essence and sincerity is felt throughout the entire album. It kept me here when i no longer felt I had a reason to stay...
This is a progressive rock album. Quite a departure. Matt said they wanted to make their own Dark Side of the Moon.
@@scottluisi32 every group should want their own dark side of the moon
@@Ty91681 That would be great but most bands lack the ability. And that's ok. I would cringe if I ever heard about an unreleased ProgRock album by the Ramones exists! Lol. I honestly think I wouldn't listen to it. Everything I like about the Ramones would be ruined forever lol. 🙃

I really wish M Shadows extended the first lyric section a bit more. The melody and his vocal work behind it is insanely perfect.

It's very rare to find songs that go past the 6 minute mark and keep my interest throughout the whole thing, this one goes nearly 16.
Barely started to listen this band about 2 years ago but I think it's my all time favorite that I've stumbled upon so far.
i like how its a 15 min song but he only sings for the duration of a typical song and the rest is just instrumental
Aaron Marshall ué? And the instrumental parts is not music? Only, when he sing it's music?
Just instrumental, the 4 symphony of Tchaikovsky have 40 minutes of only instrumental
apocalipse João he said he likes it. Instrumental is music too haha.
apocalipse João calm yourself
That's spoiler dude.
Never in a million years did i think this would be my favorite song off the album and my favorite song of all time.
I call this Synyster Gates ft. Avenged Sevenfold
I call it Syn and Brook ft. Avenged Sevenfold
Kidding, this is Avenged Sevenfold....
but syn barely play in this song
We all know its actually Johnny Christ ft Those guys in the band.
actually it is Avenged Sevenfold ft. Avenged Sevenfold
Its called a band because its a group of people collaborating more than once so no its just Avenged Sevenfold dickheads lmao
I am so happy about this album!! there message could not be better
'People kill and get killed in the name of someone else's concept of God' Just let that sink in
Why? People kill and get killed because of worthless politicians. If it's stupid to believe in gods, how much more stupid is it to believe in politicians, when there is vastly more evidence they are evil and corrupt?
Isn`t it the same thing? respectively
Pretty much
People will kill over anything it’s human nature
Ungovernable Evil Monger People kill even before the politicians
This might be the best piece they’ve ever released.
Never really cared about Avenged Sevenfold, but now I'm a fan! Holy shit what a song! :O
me too ... forgive us our trespasses
welcome to the family
a little peice of heaven
If you want suggestions for more of their best songs; try these: The Stage, Buried Alive, Save Me, Fiction, A Little Piece of Heaven, Sidewinder, The Wicked End, Strength of the World, God Damn, M.I.A., Critical Acclaim, Higher, Nightmare, Coming Home, Acid Rain, Paradigm, Sunny Disposition, I Won't See You Tonight (Part 1) and I Won't See You Tonight (Part 2). You will be amazed at the difference of the last two songs, even though they are a two-part song.
Horror and Halloween 101 Strength of the World!
A Metal "Shine on you Crazy Diamond"
well we already have Greatest Show on Earth by Nightwish, 24 mins :)
still great to have a 15 min song from Ax7 though! :D

Producer: How many solos do you want ?
Syn and brooks: YES
The combination of the guitar, drums, and monologue at the end always gives me goosebumps. Fucking A man, Avenged Sevenfold knows how to make music that surges straight to the soul.
Firstly, what an absolutely incredible song. But it solidifies a thought I've had for a long while. Imagine what we could achieve if we focused our thoughts and all as a species pulled together to look beyond our planet and possibly solar system. Instead of fucking about with petty indiscretions towards each other, and just thinking of our own selfish desires.
We could do so much more. It's depressing to think about.
That speech at the end still gives me goosebumps.
Synister Gates masterpiece .
Djordje Djordjevic Synyster*
This band is surely the only one that can cause indiscrebable things in me, just like Pink Floyd did years ago... They are above what can't even imagine other bands. Thank you for make me discover myself differently everyday by listening your work !
Is the middle part of the song (with lyrics) about the expanding universe?
"Sailing away beyond the reach of anyone" - as universe is expanding, more and more places become unreachable
"Far beyond the dreams of everyone" - because we can never know what's beyond the edge of the observable universe
"No light to follow" - everything beyond the edge is expanding away faster than the speed of light
Am I reading into it too much ?
I think you did a perfectly awesome reading of that :)
I took it as the collapse of mankind.
"A shot in the dark"?
"Does anybody know"?
Probably my fav song in the album
by far my favorite by them. Wasn't even looking forward to a new A7X album this year, completely lost interest after Hail to the King. This album has my interests reinvested in this band.
Josiah York because they no longer have a shit drummer. They have one that probably pushes them as musically as the rev did
Aron or whatever tf his name is was LITERAL GARBAGE.
Requiem and Planets always saved HTTK for me.
Is it safe to say that the stage is one of the best albums ever created?
Did you forget City Of Evil? But yes this album was really good as well
Of avenged sevenfold, of metal, or of music in general?
Yup
Its your opinion and no one can change it except you
City of evil is the best a7x record hands down
Yes, for sure
first time I listened to this I was on acid and couldn't stop crying because the ending really got me thinking... only avenged sevenfolds music does this to me
Pink Floyd does it to me...
A couple of Dream Theater songs does this to me
The Great Debate - Got me thinking of Moral Ambiguity
In the Name of God - I started overthinking about a character named Mami Namami from a show called Rent a Girlfriend and how extreme her actions would hypothetically scale when trying to ruin the MC and it's not pretty (And Rent a Girlfriend is a "Logic of a Loveblind MC and his Girls so any Logic will be ignored" type of show)
10:53 and after its pure bliss. a7x managed to to traverse from the awesome and cheesy songs(bat country, afterlife, nightmare etc) to these genius eargasmic pieces of art. This album is so complex and deep with sooo many unique touches to it. My hats off
rikkos mappouros you call three of their best songs cheesy? You clearly don't know what you're talking about.

Nick Harrison lol they are the cheesiest theyve ever made bruh
+Thanatos and sometimes a bit of self-aware cheese is alright
Nick Harrison The music videos where very cheesy, but also very good. I enjoyed all of them.
I haven't cared too much for A7X since City of Evil, but holy fuck this album is amazing!
They're 2007 albums really good too.
Favorite song off of The Stage
God Damn.

Sunny Disposition. (I guess we're gonna cover them all?)

This is the best A7x album. Each album has been better than the last, and thats what makes this the best band ever.
Avenged Sevenfold + Dream Theater influences = Masterpiece
Adalton Fernando I'm so glad I wasn't the only one who thought of dream theater when I heard this. 15 minutes long. Lots of instrumentals and melodies. innovative/risky guitar solos Great lyrics. Portnoy definitely left a piece of himself with A7X.
Garrett Smith and time signature changes.
Me too.. But I kinda sense pink floyd at times too..
@I’m Dirty Dan yeah but i have listened to some DT songs and after listening to this again, it has the DT vibe.
Adalton Fernando exactly haha
I've seen some confusion in the comments, so for those who don't know, Neil deGrasse Tyson wrote his speech at the end himself, specifically for this song, not M. Shadows. Tyson is that much more of a badass in my mind, knowing that he is also an A7X fan! Also, Brooks Wackerman is straight fucking awesome in this song, especially during the speech. 'Exist' might be my new favorite A7X, more so than 'A Little Piece of Heaven,' I can't stop listening to this song! \m/
HoeeSayy It was actually a group effort. Shadow's wife had a large input into the speech, this comes from the AMA they did on reddit last year.
