- A kayaker found a 6-year-old boy swimming alone in the St. Louis River and helped him back to safety after he was separated from his parent's sailboat, and a video the kayaker posted on his Instagram depicting the rescue has gone viral.
From the comments I get the feeling this young boy needs to be saved from his parents...
I’m so surprised and kind of hurt no one did anything to investigate the dad. This is a big red flag and he was literally traumatized and abandoned. How can people put this on the news and turn their heads a second later? I hope this launches an investigation
No one ever wants to report the real truth... what kind of father would allow this to happen? No sailboat in sight means no one was looking for the boy 🤔
@@SA-wr1bp Absolutely. And the way the kid didn't want 911.... very telling.
Kids have a way of vanishing
My sentiments exactly.....Papi.
That dad needs to be investigated after his remarks when he showed up. He was all nonchalant about it and seemed drunk saying they’ve been in this position before. Wtf…why didn’t the news talk about that.
I thought I was the only one who thought this... dude was drunk.. sketchy!
I know right? Like WTF?! What kind of a father would hope someone else would find the child. I saw the whole video and it was disturbing. The father's reaction and comments were too fishy.
Exactly
Is this a different vid?
Father is a whole mess. Kid is definitely abused
Sounds to me like this little fellow needs a new dad. One that cares about him. Thank you David!
A new dad that would molest him?
You’re right Carolina ,I agree with you,I have a 6year old boy and he’s learning to swim, seeing this is just hard to take, what if had found him floating in that cold water?😣 so glad David 😲 saw him and got him back to shore.😔
Agree, one that cares about him...more than he cares about alcohol
Sounds to me like he needs a swift sharp slap upside the head. Then maybe he wouldn't repeatedly fall out of the family sailboat. My parents would be pissed if I were that daft at 6 years old... I had already learned to shoot a rifle at that age.....
@@janedmunds4218 I'm not judging the father yet. Have a friend who was diabetic didn't know it but done something very stupid which lead to his diagnosis. Keystone acidosis can lead to strange behavior with alcohol smell on breathe
There needs to be an investigation into this. I am so sorry this child had to endure this. I am very thankful he was saved.
Probably traumatised for life
@@Golding247 .....
My gosh you know he would be.
To the man that rescued him...you sir are the hero! Hope this little boys father is investigated!

The full video shows the kid freaking out, begging people not to call 911. Smells like child abuse. Later the father shows up and demonstrates little concern for the child.
Exactly!!!!!
Somebody call CPS. That kid lives with an abusive father!
Which explains why David, the rescuer in the kayak, expressed such ongoing concern about the boy's welfare.
@@victoriabaker4400 the kid also mentioned this has happened before and seemed more concerned about upsetting his dad which is sad. David posted online and was pretty upset at the dad too.
@@BabuskaDoll Yes, so I now understand. I watched the original long video and it was disturbing. "Saved me a lot of hassle" is just not a normal parental response. And, why the hell was a 6yo kid out in a huge river alone on a day when the temp was 57 degrees F? It's hard to believe he would have jumped in on his own.
I hope the police aren’t writing this off as an accident and are actually investigating. If the rescuer is telling you something is off with the parent’s story, then something is off. He’s the one that was there.
AND he has a law enforcement BG as well. Having an instinct abt these kinda things helps.
@@kweenjade01 Was thinking exactly the same. You can’t take that instinct away from anyone who has served as a PO. 🙏🏻
I was thinking the same thing. 🤔
@Steiner von Wolfkin Kreave but typically when freak accidents happen, the story of what happened makes sense. It doesn’t seem “off”. Yeah, people can lose a kid on the water, but the rescuer specifically said the parents story didn’t make sense and raised a lot of questions. You’re clearly missing that part.
@Steiner von Wolfkin Kreave when did I ever mention the father or assume the mother innocent? I used the term “parents” which includes both. I didn’t assume them guilty either. I said I hope the police investigate and don’t write it off. If it was an honest accident, the investigation would prove it. You’re literally just making up stuff in your head and putting words in other people’s mouths.
I can't even imagine how scared that little guy must of been. I would of pulled him up and hugged him like no other. Even though he wasn't mine. I couldn't imagine one if my boys or now my grand children being in a predicament like that. Thank you to the kayaker for being in the right place at the right time.
????? Look again...very suspect. No one yelling from the shore help help something's happened to my son he was in the middle of the lake he belongs in child custody till they examine these guardians

googled: st. louis river 6 year old
Duluth police briefly interviewed the boy and parents. Parents said boy dropped a rope he'd been holding onto, and due to wind and currents their sailboat couldn't get back to him.
That's crap.
I've only done a tiny bit of sailing but there's this thing called "tacking" that lets you sail against the wind.
The father said the boy said he'd be fine and would swim to shore.
I would've jumped in the river if necessary to be with my son, my 6 year old sun who has to swim with a water wing. This is such nonsense. No life ring on the boat???
That family should at least NEVER SAIL AGAIN.
The Duluth Police said they are not investigating any farther.
That's a stretch
I think people are giving you a hint. I understand why. It was a miracle you saved him. Maybe, it was ment to be?
I'm still trying to mentally piece together how this boy ended up that far from his dad without SAR looking for him. As a parent, it's hard for me to fathom how that happened without some type of foul play involved.
Yes, if I wasn't able to jump in, I would have called for help that second. Hopefully they just didn't have the whole story.
If you watch the full video (it’s somewhere linked in the comments section I believe) it’s clear that the father is drunk. And the boy was freaking out about the rescuer wanting to call 911, he was insistent not to call 911, which makes me wonder if it’s been called on that family before and the boy is scared of the fathers fury if he comes and sees ambulance/paramedics there.
@@ak8990 Dang, if that's the case, this boy has even bigger problems coming to him than he's already in. I hope that the social services will do diligence on this case. This boy needs all the help he can get, poor little fella. My heart aches for him as I have 2 toddlers of my own.

These are the same type of parents that have their child drown at a pool party. Glad this child was rescued.
If you watch the actual 9:47 minute video, you will see the dad never called for help and sounded very intoxicated. People had to get their boat and go out to tell the dad that they found the little boy floating and screaming in the water and that they rescued him. The dad was almost laughing the whole thing off.
It's a very sad situation altogether and hopefully CPS gets involved and will keep this little boy safe from now on.
God bless David and this little boy
I saw the video and the dad was saying "Thanks, you saved me a lot of hassle". Seriously, WTH. I hope the boy is safe. So glad David heard him and rescued him. So scary to think what would have happened otherwise!

I just watched that 9 minute video. The father is definitely not right. I hope someone is watching that boy cuz the whole situation seems creepy to me. Like maybe they didn’t want the boy found. It’s interesting how the boy was left right where 2 people have drown?? Hmmmm……..
I have so many questions as to why this child was alone. As a parent, I’d be looking for my child and freaking out. I live with my adult son and I still know where he is or where he’s planning to go and do. I also know at least one person who he’s with.
I can’t see how this child could be alone, especially in water.

I saw the whole video and the dad told the little boy to swim back. David said that he saw the dad pull up his anchor. He also thought he was going to come back for him but didn't. The couple whose house David took him to took their boat out and went and got the dad. The dad was not worried at all and said David saved him from a lot of hassle and that they've been in this situation before. If this kid ever gets to see this video and read these comments, even if he's older at the time, he will be able to see how much people DO CARE about him. I hope some things change for this little boy--he needs to be where he is kept safe!
Or he just needs to stop falling out of boats.. One would think the first time would be enough to learn.. I grew up around wealthy ruralites, the dangers present around me as a child were vast, but I never made the same mistake twice.
Had that kid have been me at 6, my father & more so grandfather would've been very angry with me. I mean, falling out of a boat in those seas (in the vid) takes SOME effort. The kid didn't just go from in the boat to out of the boat like a sack of potatoes, he had to've been doing something that he wasen't supposed to...
@@elonmust7470 I'm sure we're all hoping you haven't spawned.
Just because you had an abusive situation growing up that you have normalized and created a narrative about it being a positive thing that you were doesn't make it so.
The father is at the very least exceptionally neglectful. That's a problem.
Thank you so much David for rendering assistance to this obviously frightened young man.
@@elonmust7470 parents don't teach their kids to mind anymore. But to.be fair it could be they hit a wave from another boat and it plopped him over the side. Hopefully he learns to hang on or get in the middle. And the dad not bothering to call for help makes me wonder if this was not deliberate.
@@elonmust7470 Maybe he was trying to get off the boat on purpose, to swim away from an abusive dad.
Seriously what parent just takes off without their kid and is like “Ah I’ll find them eventually” I would be flipping out, screaming, retracing my path and calling the police. Thank God for this man saving that little ones life. I hope his parents are investigated. Unacceptable!
Exactly, he would be dead if he didn't have a life vest
If that scenario was purely fictional I would find it funny. In this case, its not funny. It's bizarre. I just want to push the dad off a boat quite a distance from land.
The dad was on a sail boat. Not to justify this at all cause it is still bull shit. But the sail boat he was on did pull him away so it said but he still acted as if the boat was more important then the kid. If the air temp was 52 it was to cold to be swimming so I don't understand. Did he fall off or come unhooked but if he just come unhooked why was he in the water.
My thoughts exactly! If my baby started drifting away from me, TO HELL WITH THAT BOAT! I'm saving my child.

A few questions:
How far was this child from his parents or the boat he was on before the child's separation?
Child's length of time in the water?
Was there an insurance policy, on this child, or anyone else on that boat, related to accidental drowning? And if so, who were the beneficiary's?
Why didn't the parent notice if this child was missing?
If the father was deemed intoxicated or under the influence of anything. Why wasn't he cited by the police?
Was CPS involved? And if not, why not?

But I don't think it would have been easy for that kid because he was already starting to get hypothermia and once that hits hard the arms and legs lock up which probably could have happened to him before he reached the shore .
Some people were saying they think the reason the kid freaked out when they said call 911 is because he probably witnessed his father getting in trouble about being being liquored up and probably someone calling 911 on him in the past

If so that isn't easy to do when a person's getting hypothermia because the first thing that locks up on a person once they get too cold or the legs and arms will not be able to move .
I have asked three people who have always been around yachts how easy or hard it would have been for the father to stop using the sailloops because he said the wind was against him from catching up with the boy and how easy it would have been for him to just turn on the engine and get to the child .
I also asked them if they thought the boy should have been tethered to what are called jack lines so he could not really have fallen off .

Yeah...he must have been so terrified. Sad, but happy that he was rescued.
Both of them are heros. What an uplifting story!
Awe, what a miracle he was found!
Dad is drunk or high. “You saved me a bunch of hassle”. Yeah he also saved your kid. The reaction from the kid when he speaks about calling 911 sounds like he has been through it before. And there are possible repercussions from dad if 911 has to come.
Brought me to tears. That statement right there removed any doubt about whether he was a decent man. He is not!
My thoughts exactly. Drunk dad, and 911 is a hard NO in that household.
Bissmillah
Can you believe it! “ saved me a bunch of HASSLE?!! Poor little boy…
Where do I find the full video?
I talked to many people about swimming in a race from San Francisco pier to Alcatraz-one thing I took away from these conversations was they all got panic attacks mid way there when landmarks disappeared over the horizon. So imagine being a tiny little kid. I really hope someone have spoken up for the kid and make sure this won’t happen again.
Yea that's an intense swimming experience for an adult to endure because it's not just about landmarks disappearing it's also about exhaustion kicking in due to the constant battle between mental and physical. You're constantly telling yourself to stay focused and strong, but at the same time your eyes are constantly screwing with your sense of direction.
you just had to interject "me me" into the story. It's really not that hard to imagine how a little kid would feel that you have to bring up your triathlon. I guess its good you have trepidation but is the place to look for support. It's not always about you, even your screen name suggest that, but the swim you talk about is not that difficult and to boot you will have a wet suit that even further aids you with buoyancy. Now stop with the drama
@@JohnDoe-mp1zk wow hostile much?
@@JohnDoe-mp1zk Wow. That little anecdote really triggered you. If you're like that all the time, get help quickly.
I’ll also be thinking about sharks hell no lll
Mr. Jones...you ARE a hero.
What if you would have fished in another area?
Maybe, you wouldn't have gone kayaking that day?
What if you have gone earlier, or later in the afternoon?
You, and that precious little boy, were meant to meet that day, that place, that very second.
If you had changed your day in any way...well, I'll just say...YOU saved that boy's life.
THANK YOU!
So true! Wow, he was sent to save that little boys life🙏 Thank God for Mr. Jones
The boy was wearing a life vest... he would have swam back to shore. I'm more worried about them getting him out of his abusive home. A 6 year old should not burst into tears at the mention of calling the police. I think the water is the least of it.
Divine intervention!
Amen
Kayaking truly is some of the best activities. It saves lives, literally.
Happy the boy was rescued.
I saw both parts and it was really shocking, almost unbelievable how careless and nonchalant the father was about everything. The child begged the hero not to call police… something was not right.
In the right place at the right time. I hope the rescuer is given a medal for this, he deserves one.
He'd probably be too humble to accept it. Medals don't mean anything. Doing the right thing and expecting nothing in return is even better.
The fact that nobody mentioned that the dad had called for help to find a lost child is pretty frightening. I hope he's being investigated thoroughly
My sentiments exactly! The whole video is heartbreaking
I am very concerned about this child.
Kid seems to know something is not right with his Dad to be that scared to have 911 called.
Thats called "assassination by media" there are so many media buzzards circling prey the only way you can attract attention "eyeballs" is to deliberately omit important facts
The Kayaker posted online and was frustrated at the dad too. The dad didn't call authorities and wasn't even trying to look for his son. Didn't even turn the boat around to find him. Police had to get the dad and bring him to his son. This also is also not the first time this has happened. I hope he gets investigated so he realizes how serious his negligence is. He probably thinks this is "no big deal".
Thank you, Mr. David Jones. I hope you see the child again. He will never forget you.
There is a good reason the rescuer still had questions about the incident. The father of the boy should be investigated!
Definitely! A 6 year old in a life jacket...in a river...in 56 degrees??? That father had evil intentions.
Here is the full video..

Kayaker is a hero. And an ex cop experience kicked in to keep boy calm. Thank goodness kid wore a life jacket.
Back story of dad and sailboat seems highly suspicious.
Wow. When I was 5 me and a friend drifted out to sea in a little yellow raft (probably because of our "excellent" rowing skills). My father swam out to get us, in the middle of a swarm if jellyfish and was stung at least 20 times. My father isn't spectacular all the time, but when I need him he's there.
Thanks for sharing. I dont know why but that got me emotional haha
Well lucky for your father it was just a swarm of jellyfish and there were no sharks out there
Bless him. What a good human.
That man is a HERO in my book! Great job sir.
Damn I couldn't imagine my 6 yr old being able to do this. I'm not usually one to blame the parents but where are they. How could you lose your 6 yr old in water like that. Like he said the strength of the little boy saved him.
Parents are not parents anymore.
You 6 year old doesn't have to be strong, because they have you to love and protect them.
I think the life best and the kayaker helped saved him. Hopefully, social workers will look into this. It's sad that children can't pick their parents!
David Jones, Jr. is an excellent representation of our human race. You, Sir, have my utmost respect. ~Cheers!
Thanked God for this man and praying for this boy
I bet he is still worried about the boy since no one was looking for him it appears in the video! God bless the man for caring beyond just on the day.
This Was a heartwarming story. Thank you to Mr. Jones for helping that poor child. And yes, sounds like they need to investigate the father.
No need to investigate he was left for dead
its a fake news story, hence why so many details were left out, and no mention whatsoever of a police investigation into the matter. This same kid will be a hollyweird actor in the near future, b/c he did a great job acting it out.
@@Gizziiusa I really don't think so. Watch the full video. The dad was clearly intoxicated and didn't want the "hassle" of moving his boat to grab his kid. Very sad.
I'm thinking about the little boy too. I hope to God the father is being investigated. He acted rather shady in the full video.
Talk about being in the right place at the right time! God bless this young man for being There for that little one🤗
Things happen for a reason this incident may have saved his life from his parents.
I'm glad the little one is okay and thanks to the gentleman who helped him
Nice way to view it.
I have a 6 year old grandson and this made me cry , God Bless you Buddy for being there for the little guy !!!!♥️🙏
Thank God you found him. Poor baby will have nightmares for a long time.
Said its happened before, and the dad says at the end of full video something about probably seeing him again 😐
David was actually lil man's angel sent to rescue him.😇
Thank you David that kid needs a father like you.
Omg how horrific he must have been petrified so glad this kayaker was in the right place at the right time. What a hero x
Oh my goodness, did his parents know that he was missing? Thank you for being in the right place at the right time to save this young kid's life. My heart is so happy for this child and his family.
You have to see the whole video. The way the lil boy screamed for him not to call the police did not seem right.
A red flag when children say things like “Don’t call the police”
@@mariamcclanahan470 yes. Maybe he didn’t want to be taken away from his parents to be sent to a government hell hole for kids.
@@Kunfucious577 He's not an adult who has an understanding of government hellholes, Kun. He's six years old.
@@Mandy7D7 lol. Yes. You’re right. He doesnt know that government homes are hell holes but he does understand that he could be taken away or get his dad in trouble. Maybe he’s afraid that he will get in trouble since kids think that way. It seems he was swimming and went out a little too far after his dad told him not to.
Regardless, it’s bizarre how people here have no issues with possibly breaking up a home after watching a few minutes of their lives caught on video.
David Jones, You're a HERO! 🙏❤
That rescuer is just a wonderful man. Amazing.
What a kind man. I was in tears when I saw this, I can’t imagine the fear in those kids cries. So glad they both found each other ❤️ What a story, I really want to hear their updates from now on!
David, you seem like a wonderful guy. Good job!
What a lovely, thoughtful young man to praise and encourage this kid.
THANK YOU FOR BEING THERE AT THE RIGHT PLACE AT THE RIGHT TIME, GOD BLESS YOU
And there are good people who are desperate for having a child... This beautiful kid deserves a better dad, a dad who loves and protect him.
Seems like the parent in the boat would be right there trying to pull their child out of the water? Where’s the boat? Where’s the parent? This needs to be thoroughly investigated. If a substance is involved, a boat is still a vehicle, and laws still very much apply to this situation.
What a hero! Ty mr jones.
what a wonderful man.
Love love the guy in the kayak and the little boy was so brave. Glad everybody is safe and sending love to both of them! Sometimes HEROs just come your way. 💕💕👏💕
That poor kid. That had to be terrifying for him. Big hugs! 🥲
Someone please rescue this child from his father. God sent David out there just for the 6 year old. 😩😩🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾
