It is 75-110 cm long and 127-185 cm wide. They weigh 3.2 to 6.5 kilograms for males and 2.5 to 5.5 kilograms for females. There is no sexual dysmorphia, and males are slightly larger than females. Body feathers are brownish pale grey overall. The head and neck are black and there is a white pattern that runs from both cheeks down the chin. The beak and feet are black. It looks similar to Barnacle Goose, but unlike the white-cheeked goose, it does not have black feathers on its chest.
The male and female cries are different, so they can be distinguished. It lives in waters such as streams, ponds, and lakes, and nests in areas that rise slightly above. Dig shallow pits to make nests and fill them with grass and fluff. Green plants and grains are the staple food. Sometimes I eat insects and fish. After two years of incubation, breeding begins. Once paired, it maintains some monogamy until one dies first. It lays three to eight eggs at a time. The incubation period is 24 to 28 days. The life span in the wild is 10 to 24 years.
It is widely distributed in the Arctic region, Canada, and the northern United States. It is named after its main habitat. In winter, we go south and spend winter. It is also found in northern Europe, the Kamchatka Peninsula in eastern Siberia, eastern China, and Japan. In recent years, it lives around artificial ponds or human cultivated land and sometimes does not move even in winter.
