Canada geese get a bad rap. They are some of the best parents I have ever seen. Especially protective of their nesting area. The dad is always around watching and chasing off what they feel is a threat to their family. The mom is always in the immediate vicinity of the goslings. They even try to protect them while feeding with chasing off other geese who come near their food supply. They will stay together until the young start flying and finding a life of their own (usually about a year).. The parents stay mates for life. They usually nest in the same area if they were productive at raising a new family from the nest. At least that is what I have noticed from in the big city

lmao there's a video that I watch regularly of a man who's just trying to go to work, but he has to pass by a nest of Canadian Geese to get to the door of the building, and the male goose basically starts a war with him just because he's walking 10 feet away from them. 😂

I rescued a baby Canada goose this last spring, and raised her up till she was full grown. She had been injured and abandoned by her goose family. She is now at a nice farm with a big pond, and a bunch of friends. Don’t worry, No one is going to eat her. She was such a blessing to our family. She made everyone so happy. I learned so much from her. The best thing is, I get to go visit her any time I want.

Beautiful stories. Thank you so much. I too care for geese and feed them millet everyday which is their natural diet and I assume good for digestion in small amounts to go with human lawn grass which predominates where I live in the city.

Hi, I had a family of canadian geese by my small lake and one of the babies has a bum wing and the family has left him/her. We contacted wildlife rescue and we have to catch it for them and then drive the to location to see if she can fix the wing to fly. How did you get the goose close to you? I'm worried at night, I don't have a place for her/him. She/He is hanging out with the ducks now.

My Dads Neighbour fed the Canadian geese for 25 years 8 Garbage cans filled to the top every day for these geese. We lived on a lake and their property was about 200 feet/61 metres wide on the lake with a wide beach. The same Geese started to come every year 2 times a year. In time about 3,000 would come and sit on his beach and float in the water. There were so many in the water you could NOT see the water. The baby geese would bring their babies there and those babies brought their babies there. The location imprinted in their minds as a flight stopover point. Then the neighbours sold the house and did not disclose the fact that kabillion geese land on the property 2 times a year and won't go away for about 3 weeks each time. The people that bought the property were very unhappy ....

More than that, with water fowl bread can be dangerous. The gluten in the bread mixes with all the water that the birds ingest, and becomes a sticky mass that can clog their digestive tract, resulting in death.

Yep, they love bread, and will quickly eat it every time you give it to them, BUT, unfortunately bread has no nutritional value for them, it makes them feel full, but it's actually hurting them due to lack of vitamins and minerals, it could lead to angel wings, and many other disorders and diseases, it's even worse if you feed them bread while they are swimming because some of the bread will sink to the bottom causing pollution and harmful algae and bacterial, so please do not feed them bread, some of their favorite snacks are fresh green peas, wild bird feed, finely chopped up carrots and cabbage, there are some veggies that are bad for them so be careful, white potatoes for example, if you see them out of water in a field of grass and weeds, they are in food heaven, they love to nibble on grass, weed, and leaves, and forage on insects, worms, and snails ;)

good job! but I saw a lot of warnings about not feeding those wild geese, ducks or swans in public parks. It is not good for them.

I call Canadian geese dogs with wings. Ever heard the saying, 'like crap through a goose'? Now you know why I call them dogs with wings. Theor honking is their barking.

you shouldn't have fed the goose bread, it contains man-made materials such as yeast, and the birds can't digest it well, so they often get diarrhea, and sometimes feeding geese and other waterfowl bread will give them angel's wing deformity, in which the wing feathers don't grow correctly, and in some cases of angel's wing deformity, the birds won't be able to fly. what is okay to feed waterfowl ( geese, ducks, swans) you ask? it's okay to feed them oats, bird seed, and fresh veggies.
