This can become a series remaking other iconic places from the original gb game, like gyms or other routes, even a combat in the forrest with metapods, that would be awesome
@@BJGpixelhow about in order of where the player goes in the game, like next could be Professor Oaks Lab, then like the Pokémon Center and Pokémon, followed by Brock's Gym, etc.
To anyone who is trying to build a video game with isometric graphics: real isometric (120° angles) and video game isometric (2:1 lines, which ends up being dimetric and not isometric) are not the same thing, so definitely work things out with your artist beforehand (speaking from experience here hahaha)
This one has such a homey feeling to it, the cramped form factor really does give it a unique flavour of nostalgia! ✨ While watching these isometric videos, I always have a fun time seeing the objects move around the room and remain in scale. It never gets old! Also, I liked that you pointed out the technique adding a bit of depth to the walls - it really does make it look like a slice of a space 😁
Thanks! It'd be fun to see this form factor in an in-game scenario; being able to walk around all the objects with depth etc. And yeah, the most fun part is arranging the room after having made all the objects, just placing tables and chairs being like "wow art is so easy!" 😅
Oh my, I was about to scream about the tile pattern being wrong after enlarging the room since it seemed like it was going to be left that way but the end result has it fixed. You have no clue how relieved I am
Wow!!! The way you made the bedroom it feels so alive! It has so much personality I kinda want a Pokemon game stylised like that it would be absolutely charming ❤
That's beautiful. That cramped room just looks very cozy and nostalgic for some reason, i know this is gonna sound insane, but it looks delicious, and the palette just ties it all together.
love the addition of poliwhirl at the end. I know you mentioned the manga as an inspiration for your red design, but i still always love more direct references to the manga like that.
Cool! To me it's amazing to see how comfortable you seem to work in such a limited color palette, while creating very readable objects. I guess that the many hours of practice with monochrome palette (and other minimalistic ones) really pays off :) Great result! I'm glad you added a chair in front of the desk - it bugged me that there was no place to sit there :P
Definitely check out the “Modular Isometric Pixel Art Tutorial” video it’s where he goes in a bit more depth about the premade cube carving method he uses for the furniture here
Great video Mr. Greer, you certainly have a love for quality! The only thing i would have added was that the approach taken also draws inspiration from games like "MegaMan Battle Network" or even Classic JRPG's (i think that would have added to the level of quality and consideration of this project - still a great end result though!)
Your isometric and spritemaking videos are so inspirational, i've never had the patience to fully finish an isometric piece despite trying so many times but this series genuinely makes want to go back and do them again ^^
Im very impressed with how much information you can put into a small space, and have it look so good and readable at the same time. Amazing pixel art, here.
wow! A pokemon remake in this style would be awesome! Man, you are a wizard! I see many other artists creating great pixel arts, but what your creations are so convincing!! From a technical point of view, I could image this as a DX version of the original GB game, for example. That's the type of game I could imagine Nintendo doing 25 years ago, adding a special chip to support more sprites.
Great demonstration of techniques, I also tend to use building-blocks when making certain isometric objects! Another valid technique is creating isometric shapes by stretching 2 isometric lines between 2 "flat" shapes (EX: Circles, to create an isometric cylinder) Or in the case of complex objects like Red, I stretch reference isometric lines across parts of my object, I can use such a line to make sure the feet are isometrically-aligned for example, as well as the hands.
Your building block hack is so good, even if you’re not a pixel artist. I use an art program that doesn’t have an isometric ruler, and this will really help
isn't it funny that I came back to play Pokemon earlier this week? (or rather a few days ago, as it's still monday...) I don't know, but this bedroom have a heavy nostalgia factor for me, alongside the one from pokémon gold/silver/crystal, that's a very nice version, I'd say
I just recently started with pixel art and finding this channel was a huge game changer. I have learned so much in just the couple weeks from watching this and a few other channels and I can't thank you enough!
Oh man, I was literally thinking about watching your other isometric pixel art a few hours ago so I could get some inspiration on how to do things for a Pokemon related project. Guess now I've got the perfect video for that!
this is awesome! i love the manga look for red and that his poliwhirl from the manga is there, i recently started reading through all of pokemon adventures so im glad to see it getting some love here
That looks so good man! The size adjustments/cloning parts and seeing it suddenly transform into objects and creating depth was also really satisfying to watch. Nice video!
That looks so so so good! I'd imagine the reason they never tried it at the time was because of how time consuming it would of been too make it look so good. Can't say from experience or anything. But still they could make new games like that.
This end result was SO cute, and the commentary really informative and approachable! It definitely makes me want to try my hand at both pixel art and isometric art again sometime soon!! I hope you make that video about isometric character sprites!!
This is awesome! I'm super happy with how it came out, and the way you reused the modular isometric blocks like you did in yout other video was super satisfying.
YT algo brought this up and I was like ... meh, whatever ... but then I watched and it hit different. Didn't know I need this and most importantly MORE! This was amazing! 🤩
Always love your videos! Would love to see another one on isometric character design! Quick question, when working with isometric angles, how do you account for the "room" having the 4 pixel corners at the top and bottom? Doesn't that mess up the 2:1 ratio for lines? Been struggling with this myself
Thanks! Yeah hoping to do the character one at some point :) For the corner thing, if the opposing 2-pixel lines end up creating a 4-pixel joint I just think of it as a bit of rounding along that edge. I think it's ok that the line could change around the corner. You could also pinch it in to 3px or 2px for a tighter fit, whatever looks good I suppose. For this one I was using the 8x8 tile grid to guide me, so I think the walls ended up being simple mirror images of each other and I just went with it ✨
been doing a lot of pokemon stuff lately and ive been thinking of doing an isometric room from pokemon xD this came out so good! always love the animation at the end as well
Splendid! And fairly smooth workflow, it feels like you've done this piece before, before you filmed it, it was so good right away. Or that practice really shows now. The animations are so cute. You're getting ridiculously good at this!
I really really would like a tutorial on making isometric characters, i can make any object in an isometric grid, but when it comes to characters i always feel like im winging it
Looks amazing I think a dwarf would hit their head in those stairs and Pikachu is looking a little thin, but overall I really love it. I really love the red and blue remakes though, would love to see this in that more colourful palette.
You suggested you might do a tutorial on isometric characters. I would love that! Your modular isometric tutorial made such an impact to my workflow, and this video was a great reinforcement. Thank you for continued work!
I love your videos and seeing the way you re-imagine different things. It always makes me want to try out your techniques. This one makes me want to revisit all the modular blocks I made awhile ago after that video had dropped. I really like how you used that system to build this room!
now i want a pokemon with this style...its so refreshing if these were the new games instead of the rehashed games we always got yearly also: wouldve been perfefct if pikachu is the fat pika og style

As a person who doesn’t plan to make a video game ever, this was very interesting information!
Thx man
I wanted to make a game with isometric graphics, I only managed to make the tiles and not the characters idk why but it's kinda harder to do
true.
26.565° is the magic angle in 2d space (or 63.435°, if you prefer)
in 3d space... that gets a bit more complicated.
@@ColdsterColdyI can imagine! Would drawing the character in a box help?
I deeply appreciate that you identify the trainer as Red and not as Ash, like so many others do. Shows that you really do care deeply.
dude real!
looks more like gold to me lol
He did call him Ash in a video a few years back, so I guess he learned the name at some point lol
The isometric view really hits different this is beautiful
Seeing you layer the blocks to construct the furniture is weirdly satisfying
I absolutely love that you added Poliwhirl as yet another reference to Pokémon Adventures.

Ohh I love this! It really does look like a bedroom now, I've always found it so strange how spacious the original was 😂❤
red is a maniac who has his feet towards the wall and his head towards the room when he sleeps

The pikachu jumping on the bed is beyond adorable, and the rest is so cool. Thanks for sharing!

Kind of unbelievable that this could have been rendered in the original GB screen. I would have stared at this screen for hours as a kid.
