Every 4 months is outrageous for the massetter muscle ! I get mine done as far out as every 10 months for 2 years now with 15 units each side and I’m ok. I think the moral of this video is: don’t over do your injections in such short time spans for the massetter. Especially since you were still new to getting this done the dermatologist should’ve never suggested that amount in such short time. 🤦‍♀️

  • @No_Hookshot

You should ideally only need to get it done once. The teeth grinding at night that contributes to the hyperatrophy needs to be addressed with a good quality night guard from the dentist. The muscles only enlarge if your top and bottom teeth rows are making contact. A night guard corrects that. So.....one botox treatment maximum combined with a proper night guard and being more aware of your daytime grinding habits should be all you need.
Just getting the botox treatment without a nightguard is completely counterproductive, and puts more money in the pockets of the plastic surgeons.

I went to my dentist for the tmj botox treatment and I enjoy my progress. Dentists go through a lot of training on facial muscles groups and nerves so I trust them more than cosmetic clinics. Since this is a medical condition (tmj), I only want injections in the masseters, not facial contouring (which involves more muscle groups).
    EDIT:
Also people need to understand muscles do shrink over time when not being used to its full potential and the dose needs to be adjusted based on the muscle size. Everyone’s muscle size is different. If you are a small person, then consider start with a smaller dose. Botox blocks the neurotransmitters being released causing muscle not contract (aka paralysis). You want this effect in moderation because you still need the muscles to partially work, so identifying the correct dose for YOUR muscle size is important. The more you inject, the more paralytic effects causing the muscles to shrink giving you that sick/sunken facial look (because when you don’t use your muscles they weaken/shrink over time).
As a pharmacist who is very focused on dosing and timing, I started out at 25 units on each side for 2 treatments, and now I’m down to 20 units each side for the last two treatments. I give 6 months in between injections for the Botox proteins to fully washed out of my body and also this gives time for my muscles to regain some mass. I dropped the units because my masseter muscles are not as big as they used to be and there is no need for extra amount of Botox.
I communicated this with my dentist and has been working out great for me. I do not look any different facially, I just can’t clench as hard and eat chewy things as well as I used to be.

My dentist apparently didn't know that my swelling was from my glands, not my masseters. So basically make sure you figure yourself out first. I thought I did, I went to the doctor and a chiropractor, but I should've went to an ENT I guess. And even if they seem to know a lot, doesn't mean they are good at it. Mine injected pretty high for some reason and he's done this a lot. I was his first patient to experience what I did, lucky me.

@@kandicespecht4939 sorry to hear that… I have been going to a dentist for my Botox for 2 years now and haven’t had issues. He spends a solid minute or 2 first having me flex my masseters while he marking on my jaw. Once he is done then he has me flex the muscles again while injecting. Compared to my experience at a cosmetic clinic previously, the nurse at the cosmetic clinic never took the time to identify my masseter locations she just went for the jawline (even though I told her I just want my jaw muscles to relax not contouring).

He also doesn't understand smile muscles, so I won't be going back to him. Even though I had a side effect, he still wanted to do 10 more on each side. I'm just thankful I didn't go back for that because it did it's job and more with 15 on each side.

  • @xMuyLoca

I've got massatter botox done only once. I've started to have only a mild bruxism due to a stressful time, it wasn't even bad my jaw was not painful or anything but when I asked the doctor about it (aka scammer) she said I should get it, without properly telling me the consequences. It's been 10 months, and my jaw is still not back to the original shape (it's still recovering, hopefully in 2-3 months it'll be back). I did not have any complaints about my jaw shape nor I wanted to change it, i was happy with how my face looked. And my face shape changed drastically. And because of this bad experience I've been counting days to have my old face back. It really ruined my psychology and self-esteem. Imagine someone does something to your face without you needing it, for money, and you suffer for a year because of that. Everyone metobolizes botox differently and it should be told to you by your doctor and they should start with lower doses if its your first time. This aesthetics industry is full of fraudster people, they don't care about your face or your health sometimes, they might not even inform you properly like my case. You are just another customer to them, they just want to make money so they could be telling you all sorts of things to get the procedure done. I literally felt like I was abused by this so-called doctor. Lesson learned the hard way. You should be very careful getting whatever procedure done to you. What I'm saying extends the beyond this industry even in the medical sector, beauty sector etc. Just be careful and make sure you give yourself in the hands of the right people.

I am totally in the same situation. You were told to do it three times a year. I was told by one doctor in Bangkok to do it every month and I did that for 3 months. What shocked me was the crazy change of my skin (around the cheeks and jaws). It became so saggy and I never realized it was because of the jawline botox treatments (that were overdone). Lesson learned and as I am just waiting for it to wear off and in the meantime, I would need a treatment to tighten my skin. Thank you for the video!
P.S. I originally did it for my teeth grinding problem for years and started to like the effect of the oval shape of my face. Now I need to find other ways to relax my jaws at night time without botox 😅

Only took one treatment for this to happen to me. My well meaning dentist did conservative dose each side. My face slimmed a lot and then my mid cheek sagged and atrophied at 2 month mark. My derm (a respected doctor here on RUclips) saw me and said the volume loss from jaw botox is aging. I'm nearly 40, you need all the volume you have, not less. It does you no favour to look gaunt. So I won't be repeating it. I also find chewing chewy food quite tiring. Derm described it as a loss of scaffolding. Shame because the grinding relief is amazing. Live and learn. Lucky I have a derm who recognises botox volume loss in this area is undesirable.

I am not sure if it's mainly on the Asian face, but my Korean hairstylist and a Vietnamese injector both had the same experience with jowling after getting Botox. They said they now avoid Botox in their masseters because its not worth it. However I do think the amount of jaw reduction in yourself was quite an extreme case. Frankly, I would rather have a wide and youthful jawline rather than a slim jawline with slight jowling. Trust me, it ages you and it will drive you nuts! This is coming from women in their 30's. I hope you are protecting your teeth with a proper night guard. Most dentists can make custom guards to protect your teeth AND your TMJ. Some know more than others so ask your dentist or look online for dentists who treat TMJ. Best of luck! Dr Heday, DDS

I now have a mouth guard for my clenching, but after 2 months my face has hollowed and I look gaunt. I came here wondering if my masseter muscle atrophy has caused it. My dentist said my face shape wouldn’t change. I asked him to take a before pic and see if after my next appt. If it changed. I have the answer. It did. I wonder why he acted like he never heard of such a thing.

If you grind your teeth while you are young you won't see what slowing happens when you get older. I wish I would have known a long time ago about botox for the jaw so my teeth grinding didn't destroy my teeth. Now I am in the process of teeth restoration, which is very expensive.I don't mind the side effect of jaw slimming, I don't look gaunt. So you have to weigh if you want to slowing destroy your teeth or get the botox to avoid that from happening from years of teeth grinding. Also get a night guard, it's helps.

  • @kleinereverie8763
    @kleinereverie8763 2 месяца назад

I think it depends on the person and their facial structure as to whether the sagging and excessive hollowing occurs. I get botox masseter every 4 months and it has shrunk down my oversized masseter from a genuine square shape to oval. It doesn't look excessive and nor is there and jowling and my masseter is so strong that it does actually regain it's strength fast enough to need such frequent treatments. It's simply physiology. I haven't had any issues so far. Just go somewhere reputable who has your best interests at heart.

Actually ,most people doing botox in he masseter for tmj are doing it to relieve pain not look better ! Botox in the masseter should not be given to slim the face ! Also my facial surgeon told me that they had to space out the treatments as much as possible or it could end up not working anymore, also why would a dermatologist do this ,that is totally crazy !!dermatologist take care of skin not facial muscles!! As for being glad you have bad teeth grinding just keep in mind that with time ,severe teeth grinding can damage your articulations to a point of no return and that will lead to lockjaw ,severe pain and trouble eating and swallowing !! But with all that said happy your face is back to normal 😅 !! Just make sure if u do need anyone to treat your jaw to see an actual maxillofacial doctor or surgeon they will actually try to solve the problem instead of making you pay for treatments while filling their pockets !

I have (had) visible hypertrophy (also, slight assymetry), always ask lowest working amount of units possible, and can go up to 1.5 years after an injection. Maybe more, just haven't tried! Muscle gets slightly bigger(only up to me and my doc to notice), but never goes full on back, never feels as strong. Pretty sure it will never return to the beginning state even if I choose to never use botox ever again as I've also gone through brackets+treatment for a smoother jaw action😂
