*Excellent* singers and orchestra. The direction was also mostly intelligent and interesting. For example, it's the only version I've ever seen where John the Baptist consoles the suicide victim; which added a new dimension to the action. However, as always, I deplore the updating of most operas, especially those like Salome which is in such a specific time. I just have a problem with a story set at the time of Jesus with characters smoking cigarettes, with machine guns, etc. Also the set was cheap looking as all get out. Nevertheless, congratulations to Cedar Rapids Opera for making this available!
She starts the Danse of the 7 veils with a niqab, but finishes with bran and pants. Some finish completely naked, according to the libretto, like Catherine Malfitano for example.
It’s a North American production! They are renowned prudes , I once saw a production in Denver where the singer (?) basically removed her socks! However she was not wearing a fur coat for the final acts! Musically this was a masterpiece in comparison. I don’t think Grand Rapids would be renowned as an operatic hotbed in all fairness.
@@Andy-ix2ox I know USA is one of the prudishst countries (except muslims countries of course) in the world, but sometimes they go to the complete nudity.
THIS IS REALLY A FANTASTIC PERFORMANCE! Singers, conductor, orchestra….Bravo, Cedar Rapids Opera!!

Keep in mind that this was filmed for public television. I believe the Met production features nudity, but not on their HD broadcasts.
