- In this 59th installment, Jimmy compares two inexpensive solid body Tele style guitars from LyxPro and Monoprice in this Tele Tuesday, Part Two! You will get a close look, weights, pickup outputs, sound and tone comparisons and thoughts on just which guitar may be the better buy, depending on your preference.
Jimmy, really appreciate you taking the time to review these for us. I've been creating content on RUclips for only 5-6 months, and I understand the effort that it takes. Your playing is fantastic and so is your info transfer! I learned a lot just watching this one, and feel confident going into my first tele after 30+ years of playing.

I just ordered the LyxPro and of course your video pops up! My buddy has some spare pickups and pots he said I could have once I get a bit better playing. For the price I couldn't say no. First guitar so can't wait to play it! Awesome video 🤝👍

Hi Jimmy, Love your show. after watching your reviews I took a chance and bought the yellow indio tele delux plus. Monoprice put it on sale for $140.
this is the only tele with brass sadles and wilkensen bridge, m series pickups and solid ash body with maple neck and fretboard. this guitar really sounds great. i'm really happy with my purchase. i suggest people should always upgrade to the delux plus. great quality and a master luthier sets it up. mine came already tuned up, pretty much, thank you for all your info. Love your show.

Thanks Ted...both were ridiculously inexpensive and play/sound way above their pay grade. The pups in the Monoprice win in my opinion, but the LyxPro also has a great “feel” to it, so new pups and compensated bridge saddles will go into it shortly!

The 3 way switch, the Monoprice has the quieter modern style action for switching pickups. That is also evident in the style of saddles the ash tray bridge has, which are 6 individually adjustable for intonation. The Lyx, that is a classic, 3 way pickup switch. It has the noisier springs you would find in older instruments. And to be true to the retro classic style, they chose to put the 3 barrel saddles in the ash tray bridge. Just an observation and whether one is better than the other is a matter of how period correct one wants their Fender Telecaster replica to be. More modern look & feel the Monoprice is that design & style, while the Lyx is your 1950's Fender sound & feel for those items of the hardware. For the tuning pegs, they both look to have the modern sealed disc tuners vs a rectangular closed/open for oil/grease lube service.

Yep!! You are correct...good observations! One thing I did forget is that you can also “top load” the bridge on the Monoprice should you desire as well, but I will continue to string it “through the body” on that particular guitar. Thanks again for watching and commenting! Much appreciated! 👍
@@JimmyStewart1 I like the string thru body myself for the Telecaster. Might be a fixed ash tray bridge, but string thru is like a Tremolo in that regard. For design the string thru doesn't have shear pull of the strings against the screws holding the ash tray bridge to the deck/top.
I'm putting a Bigsby B50/B500 on a Epiphone LP Special I P90. Give it the Gretsch Bigsby feel. I've seen some Telecasters with Bigsby Vibratos installed.

After watching your video I decided to get the Indio version, until I looked and looked online and could not find a single left handed model! The struggle is real haha, but I’m fine with settling for the lyx pro version, I’ll just mod the heck out of it lol, great video!

I bought the Monoprice tele in the deep blue and there was wicked fretsprout and some little set up issue's but I wouldn't trade it for the other, love my Indio tele now, great setup, great sound and the gig bag puts it over the top!
Thanks so much! Fret sprout is common on these, as my Cali Classic shipped with barbed wire, but easily taken care of. This Retro was a non issue however. Monoprice has changed them now to a top loader and 3 saddle bridge to keep more with their “Retro” monicker. The gig bag is a nice welcomed addition. I do really like the neck and weight of the LYXPRO so eventually I will swap out the pups. Appreciate your stopping in and sharing your thoughts! 👍🎸
@@JimmyStewart1 My high points for the Monoprice are the string through design, the ability to individually adjust the saddles, the Maple fretboard (on my blue), love the satin back of the neck and of course the bag.

I just purchased the Indio Retro Blonde..I already have the Indio Retro in Sunburst,and she's a beauty. I plan to shape the headstock to a more Fenderesc style,,no beak.not my style,and I might do a light sand and do a brown shoe polish darkening..I agree.i think this Indio is good to go for the money,no need to change pickups,unless you have them already or you really want to make it your #1 player. Great video.

I received my Indio Telly about a week ago and I really like it. I had to file the Fret ends cuz they were really sharp but other than that it's a great guitar for the price
Great! I heard this a lot, and in fact my Classic Cali (see my review) also came with very sharp fret ends too. I was expecting this to have the “barbed wire” too, but was pleasantly surprised that it came nicely finished on the fret ends. Easy fix either way! Thanks so much for watching and commenting! I thought that the Indio sounded much better. I know that Indio offers a maple fretboard on at least one of the Teles, if not two, but you'd have to buy two and switch the necks if they didn't offer the combo that you'd prefer, but I do not think that the Indio maple fretboard has nearly the glaze (gloss) on it that the LyxPro has.
Nice review. That Indio gig bag is about a $30 value with that much padding (maybe more), so getting the guitar that you want for $80 AND that gig bag is a steal.

Hey Kristopher! My pleasure man, and glad you enjoyed! I believe in this video, for the intro/outro, I was using my SoniCake “Twiggy Blues” pedal, with a bit of compression, overdrive, a little reverb and delay. I also use a HoTone Ampero modeler from time to time, depending on what I am doing. I usually run my pedal boards out to the Stage Right 15’s effects send/return circuit. I don’t mike the amps in my reviews/demo’s and prefer the listener hear what the “room” sound is like as much as possible! I have two separate pedal boards set up, one for studio/recording and another for “live” work. Both incorporate a HoTone Ampero, Sonicake “Twiggy Blues” and “RockStage” Sonicbars, tuners, along with compression/reverbs/delays/eq’s….during the video comparing sections, I was simply using my HoTone as a clean patch to the SR 15…

The Ampero also incorporates a looper, along with percussion, but I rarely use them. I use a Boss (Roland) RC-5 Loop Station. Not exactly “budget”, but built like a tank…great sound and pretty easy to use. I have a number of videos here on the channel where I use the looper. The last few amp reviews I just finished I used it…have a 👀

Those are both good guitars, I have them both. The neck on the LyxPro is so much like an American Fender Standard, it's a really good neck! The Monoprice Indio neck has rolled edges and also is a very good neck! I put Seymour Duncan pickups in both of mine and don't see any real difference between them and my American Fenders as far as playability and sound goes.

I agree with your assessment. The blond has a little bit more output stand Deluxe. Deluxe was completely anemic some changes you can make it much better. However, the blond could use a little bit more in the mid to bottom end as well

Great playing. I have a left handed lyx pro tele. There were some quality control issues like paint near the entrace for the trust rod on the neck. Otherwise its VERY comfortable,love the color in surf green, neck is high quality which can be hard to find for lefty without paying an arm and a leg.
I was wondering, I find myself getting a bright brittle tone. Do you mind sharing your amp settings?

I was wondering how much trouble it would be to slightly round over the fretboard edges on the Indio ? My other tele copy is a Donner DTC100, I really like the neck on it, feels more rounded. Thanks for your helpful videos !!! 👍
It can be done…some decent files would do the job, then sandpaper to smooth them out. Watch some RUclips videos ( I think Stewmack has some) of the procedure. If you are not comfortable doing this type of work then bring it to a knowledgeable luthier.
Nice video. I just bought the Lyxpro, I'm using it in regards to commercially licensed music that I write and record as well as music for retail sale. I'll be putting in a dual rail humbucker into the bridge position.. at some point.

Will tele parts Fit it im thinking of buying the left handed lynx pro and modifying it to be my main guitar
Got my blue maple/maple neck Indio on sale too for $79.
Put in very authentic early tele sounding BYO Hot Vortex pickups (about $50).
While filing the expected maple fret sprout and polishing the crowns I then went ahead and grabbed a bigger fine file and slightly rounded out the fretboard edge to give it that rounded played in feel. Then I polished a few coates of car polish over the entire neck for protection and a little bling. For $79 you're not going to hurt anything by filing the neck edges. It turned out absolutely perfect.
While working on the neck ot doesn't hurt to go ahead and take those nut slots down a bit....not too much....take more later when strings installed.

@@JimmyStewart1 Yeah...it can be made very playable and ear pleasing - (even without full size pots) - but the downsize for the money spent includes the soft basswood body that easily dents and strips out screw holes if not ultra careful. And then there's the cheaper thinner hardware including the bridge plate with inferior chroming that saddle screws gouge into....all cosmetic.
At first I was happy with the 14-1 tuners, but got to looking close at them and noticed the single nylon tuner knob bushing as compared to Wilkinson 16-1 tuners I had kicking around. The Wilks use a superior 2 bushings per tuner knob stem, which lessens the friction when tuning for better accuracy. Put them on and sure enough - the tuning mechanism and stability improved over what my nut lube itself provided before.
Gonna keep my eye out for another $79 sale.....a replacement neck alone costs more.

Yep!! Until mine “needs” something, I am leaving it stock. Don’t plan on it leaving the studio environment, but I can certainly see being careful with it. The beauty is you can certainly mod to your hearts content. The LyxPro is getting new pups and bridge saddles. It will be my “experiment” guitar!

Thanks, great video. The indio doesn't come with the individual screws on the bridge, but the three barrel type. Was this be a deal breaker?
Hi Johnny…thanks for stopping in. Monoprice has in the past couple years, been switching back and forth between the six saddle and three barrel style bridges. Guess it was due to whoever was doing the builds for them. No…it’s not a deal breaker in my opinion. Just a matter of personal preference I would say. I have both styles from Monoprice…no difference in playability, sustain, tone….some prefer the six saddle…others the 3 barrel’s…same with top loading or string through…

Thank you Jimmy for the comparison. The Monoprice does sound better. Like you said they both are hit and miss. The Monoprice I received had some minor sharp fret ends. 10-15 minutes of work fixed it right up. Can't wait to hear the Tex-Mex pickups on your Lyx Pro. I was thinking of getting some for my Monoprice. Keep up the great work!

Any metric side by side Tele style tuners should fit the Indio I would think.
Both guitars are very inexpensive and a good modding platform. I prefer the string thru body but I also prefer the three saddle model. Personally Ide prefer to pay around $300 for a big increase in quality to get the look and longevity for what Im looking for. Thanks for sharing Jimmy, this episode was very informative!

Appreciate it! I have found the Monoprice Indio line to be pretty darn good with decent pickups and nice finishes and a very good neck…especially considering the price point. You may get one with a bit of “fret sprout” at times, but easy fix. The newer models of the Retro Tele have changed to a 3 barrel top loader unlike mine here. Decent gig bag as well. The neck Pickup cavity is now routed to fit a humbucker as well. Take a look at my full review of this blonde and also the newer version (I bought the blue Retro) with the intention of seeing if I could swap the necks…) Good luck in your quest and thanks again for stopping in to the channel. I have a Indio classic a indio DLX and a lyx pro. Bouth indios needed a lot of work and replacement parts to make them playable. The Lyx pro was an instant pleasure to play right out of the box. Light ,great neck , low action, perfect fretwork even the pickups sounded pretty good. I was amazed. Staight out of the box it was the best one out of the three by a mile.
I completely hot rodded all three guitars. New hardware,new electronics. Both Indios got graphtech nuts. The nut on the Lyx was perfect, no reason to change it. I had to reshape the necks on the Indios, they were baseball bats,. I didn't like the way they felt. Both Indios had Major fret sprout. The so that had to be addressed. Indio classic turned out really nice and it's a keeper. The Dlx is a heavy beast and I won't keep it and it definitely wasn't set up by a luthier like Monoprice claimed it would be. That one was a waste of money. Also I prefer to skip the gig bag and receive a guitar that is better quality. And that's what I got with the Lyx pro.
Hi gimmeagig…thanks for watching and commenting! Interesting breakdown on yours…I did find the neck on the LyxPro to be very nice, mine even had a slightly rolled board which was surprisingly nice. In my case, I found the Indio pups a bit more “spanky/twangy” then those on the LyxPro and prefer them. I also have the DLX ash Tele and agree it is heavy, but mine was set up pretty nicely out of the box…truly appreciate your stopping in and sharing your thoughts! Much thanks! 🎸👍
I completely forgot that I bought the Lyxpro based on your recommendations as I've never owned a tele style guitar. Old age brain fart lol. I have to admit the first one I received with the green body and rosewood fretboard was a bit of a disaster and I sent it back and ordered the one you have. It was like night and day. The natural with maple fretboard is a very nice guitar. Nice and light and I was really impressed that the back of the neck, fretboard and headstock had a nice light gloss finish.
Yep! Another good one! We are in the age of very affordable/good guitars like nothing I have seen. Could you imagine trying to buy a decent playing/sounding Tele for under a hundred bucks even 10 years ago? Never mind “back in the day” when I grew up learning to play...😎

Hi Mr Stewart are both good for beginners I’m new to guitar and which one would be best without any issues I love Teles and I’m choosing one as my first guitar I love both guitars but was wondering which is the best with no issues for a beginners guitar?
Hi Kevin…thanks for watching and commenting. I think both would be fine for a beginner honestly. Any guitar you order online whether a “budget” or more expensive guitar could or would benefit from a setup, however in my experience with the Monoprice line, I have found them to be quite playable right out of the box. Right now, Monoprice has a % off sale going on and last I looked, had the blonde Tele like mine on sale. It also comes with a very decent gig bag, so that would be my 1st choice between the two! I have both of those guitars and I pretty much agree with your opinion on both. I do think the Monoprice Indio wins with me though. Satin finish neck if nicer than finished. Pick ups on my LYX were much underpowered and weak sounding. I replaced them with some potted Wilkinson's and now I am happier with it. On strings have you tried 8's. Since trying 8's I don't use 9's any more. Nice video easy to follow and good information for those wanting to do music on a budget.
Thanks Gary...very much appreciate that. I am going to replace the pups in the LyxPro with a set of Fender Tex-Mex I have, along with a Wilkinson compensated brass saddles for the bridge. That will fix her right up! I have not taken the plunge into 8’s as I am afraid I will never want to go back 😎
My hands are still strong enough to handle 9’s and 10’s so for now I will stay with my preferred 9’s. I might grab a “single” set of 8’s at some point just to try them out.

I run D’Addario 9’s/42’s on just about all my electrics, regardless of scale. I have used lighter and heavier gauge on “special” guitars, but D’Addario 9’s have been my staple “go to” string for many, many years. 👍

Exactly…their “earlier” models were called “Retro” as well (like my blonde model shown here) however they had a six saddle bridge and string though. I think they swapped manufacturing plants and went back to a more “Retro” version as the name would imply.

Ok, so the “Cali Classic” is a Strat style guitar from Monoprice. That’s their name for it….the “Retro” is their Tele style. Very different guitars, really. The Strat is a 3 pickup single coil, unless you buy the HSS version which has a humbucker pickup in the bridge position. The Tele sound is more “twang” while the Strat is more “quack” if that makes sense…😎. The Strat body is more “contoured” with belly/arm scalloping. Both have unique features. The Tele really gets it’s sound from the way the bridge pickup is mounted within the bridge along with the “tube” style single coil in the neck. Hope that helps a bit….
Jimmy, Great video. I am subscribed. Regarding the LyxPro, I have this guitar and love how light it is. I plan to change the pickups out in the future. Did you ever put the Texmex pickups in your LyxPro? If you have not done it yet, maybe you could make a video on it and how the guitar sounds with the new pickups?

@@JimmyStewart1 Jimmy, FYI, if you ever decide to change out the plastic nut on the LyxPro Tele, the PQ-5042-00 : TUSQ Slotted 42mm Flat Bottom Nut ", is a perfect replacement and you can get it on Amazon. I replaced my yesterday and it was very easy to do. I did have to lightly sand the width of the Tusq nut, so it would slide in the slot, but that was it. No adjustments needed for the length, height or E to E string distance as all of those measurements were the same as the original of the plastic nut.

Going by my experience with a Cali Classic I might agree that the Indio is likely the better playable guitar out of the box. I say *might* only because of the variable QC that happens on these cheap instruments. My Cali Classic was completely serviceable when it arrived. So much so that I ditched the idea of major electronics work/upgrades on it until I'm really compelled otherwise. And yes, even the frets were nicely dressed! The only thing that continues to elude me is getting the low E to intonate as well as I want.
As I hear the LyxPro I feel I would have to address the pups VERY quickly as to me they sound very thin and microphonic (which isn't helped by that noisy switch). However, going by my Cali Classic, I would of considered your Cali's fret ends a QC failure and that makes me wonder if what I hear in the LyxPro might be that as well.
I would tend to agree with most of your points here Matthew. It’s a bit of “hit and miss” when buying these inexpensive instruments and I tend to expect to have to at least do a basic setup on all of them. Cleaning/conditioning the fretboard and polishing frets as well. I was a bit disappointed in the pups in the LyxPro, but then again they are sub $100 guitars so....the Indio was a surprise with nothing more than a standard set up/string change.

All good questions, and of course “personal preference “ comes in to play (pun intended) 😎
I will say, that in my opinion, it mostly depends on guitar model/style as to preference on fretboard/neck radius and fretboard material. In some cases, you have no choice on a specific model, as they come as they come, or you mod/replace the neck if you really want that guitar, but want a maple fingerboard and it only comes in rosewood for example. Tele’s can come in a number of different radius necks…again, not all. I have yet to play one with what I would consider a “chunky” neck (50’s Les Paul JR chunky) as I also prefer a chunkier neck, but as a Tele fan myself (I currently own 7 different Tele style guitars) I have yet to play any Tele neck I didn’t like!
I may take up your suggestion and do a vid on the different styles, fretboard materials, radius differences and the like. Thanks for the suggestion and of course for watching and commenting! Much appreciated….👍

Looks like the teles are not thru body anymore? Whats up?
They changed to top loaders late last year, early this year. They also went to the retro 3 barrel bridge as well.
Zero difference between top and string through but i do like the string through more. Idk why. Traditionalist i guess. Page’s dragon tele that he used on Stairway was top loaded, even though it did have the string through option. It blew my mind when i found that out. Lots of pausing really old videos to see the back of that baby.
You can top load the Monoprice as well if you wish to. Nice that you caught Page’s use of the Tele on Stairway..many didn’t realize he used a Tele on that track. Some players believe there is a difference in sustain/tone….I believe it’s another “tone wood” myth…😎

As I value your opinion, could you please tell me which telecaster you would recommend that I get if I’m looking for the best sound quality without having to do modifications, lightweight and thinnest neck between the Lyxpro, Glarry, Monoprice and Donner. They’re all selling for between $88-$110 so not a huge price difference but I would really like to know which you would get if you could only get one. Thanks much!
Hey Doowopsid!! Thanks for watching and commenting! I never played the Donner or the Glarry…so can’t really give you a opinion on those. I have heard both good and not so good, so I guess it depends on the guitar you receive. As in most inexpensive brands, occasionally you get a “dud” or something you have to put a little work into to make it a good, playable guitar. I can tell you that in most cases, Monoprice has been very consistent overall. Their Retro Tele is hard to beat for the price point, and they include a pretty nice padded gig bag! I have 7 different Monoprice guitars now, and with the exception of a setup, and perhaps a bit of fret sprout, they have all been exceptionally good. The basic Retro Tele and Calli Classic Strat may come with some fret sprout, but easily taken care of. The necks are good, pickups sound good, controls, etc…
Hard to beat for what they sell them for…if I could only get one, it would be the Monoprice in that price range! Hope that helps, and thanks again for stopping in!

I see two IVY guitars, I have the semi tele, 2 of them actually, but I went with the larger Jazz hollow body. All my IVY sound great except for the strat versions, even with changed out pickups they are only ok.

During the intro I noticed a marked difference between the two guitars. The Indio sounds a little hotter. Not trying to say it was better, but it was hotter.

How much does your Indio Retro weigh? I was just looking at their site and it said about 11lbs 6 ozs??? That's heavier than my Les Paul Custom from the early eighties. Maybe they changed the Specs? Pete.

Does it have bad neck dive?
Hi Matthew…thanks so much for watching and commenting. Neither guitar has any noticeable dive. I am one of those players who believe “neck dive” is really not that big of a issue, unless of course you are strapping on a double neck or something. I did a video of the aspects of neck dive (tongue & cheek look) that is on the channel as well should you care to watch. I just don’t think most solid body Tele’s are anything to worry about.

Not sure what you are asking here…mine is a right handed guitar. I know that most parts will fit, perhaps with a bit of modding required depending on the routing, etc. I have not got to replacing the pups on this as of yet.

I just got the lyxpro , strings are junk so DAdderio lites 3rd wrapped , like on any Teli need to get compensating bridge ,$ 17 on reverb . The intonation was unplayable so I put my new strings on and set the intonation as good as you can , I will let it sit overnight and retune it and give it a try

Don't be surprised if the Indio (or any other factory guitar) stays sharp on lower (1st 3 frets) fretted notes/chords even after setting intonation.
That is because mainly the bigger wound strings sit too high on the nut and have to be stretched too much to finally hit the fret wire and fretboard.
Little to no time at the factory/dealer is taken to file the nut slots down to their proper optimum height, and high string action off the nut will cause sharpness when depressed from so high.
File offending high nut slots a little at a time until when the string is pressed at the 2nd fret.....it just barely clears the 1st fret wire....and without buzzing on hard plucked 2nd and 3rd frets.
Nut filing is a quite common part of setup on most of these inexpensive guitars!

Yes, the pups (especially the bridge) in mine are a bit microphonic, thus the “weaker” sound. I do like it however, as the weight and neck are great on it. The Monoprice is a bit of a better buy, as you get better sounding pups, a six saddle bridge and a very nice gig bag for the same price!

I will assume you are referring to the IYV NA (spalted) sitting on the far right. I think because they are sitting in a bit of semi-circle and the IYV is closest to the camera, the camera angle makes it look larger! I’m now realizing that these cheaper guitars might be great not only for beginners, but also for those looking for a cheap burner guitar to take to bar gigs and things like that where it might be a bit dangerous and ill-advised to bring your favorite original 1952 Telecaster worth >$30,000, for example. The Indio is Basswood, while the LyxPro is Paulownia, a point the LyxPro folks seem to make a big thing about it in their marketing, touting how lightweight it is. It is a VERY soft wood though, even softer than Basswood, which is itself softer even than Poplar. I wonder, do you worry about these Teles getting dinged up? That would be my biggest worry! How much of a problem is this? I almost think this is where the Thinline models REALLY shine: Being able to use a harder and more “traditional” wood like Ash or Mahogany, while still keeping a reasonable weight.
Honestly, I have just about “zero” worries of getting either the LYXPRO or Monoprice banged up, it you are right on in they “leave your $$$ axe at home, and bring along one of these to your bar gig! Too many times I have had very close calls with guitars coming up missing of the stage, or knocked over from a stand. They are honestly pretty stout and can take a bump or two without denting (so far) no issues. I also agree with your Thinline assessment, though at higher gain could give some feedback issues in a live setting…depending on what you are doing I suppose, but more prone to feedback.

Never tried or played one. All guitars can be subject to feedback of course, but a semi-hollow can give you a bit more issues just due to the nature of the build. Most are fine, but I would probably use something else if I was looking for huge distortion/metal crushing stuff…😎
To me it’s not even close. The Monoprice sounds really nice. The LycPro sounds tinny and you can hear the strings being strummed. My guess is Monoprice uses far superior pickups.

Almost nobody talks about neck thickness and shape. You say you prefer the Lyxpro neck, but why, specifically?
Thanks for stopping in to the channel lost sailor! Part of the reason I think is that “neck feel” is hard to convey with numbers and terms. Most necks these days are “Modern C Shape” necks…but how do those “feel”?? Also you need to look at width of the fretboard and radius as well..I prefer a bit thicker/wider neck and the LyxPro feels a bit thicker and wider than the Monoprice. The fretboard edges are more “rolled” as well, plus it’s a maple on maple neck…again my preference but may not be yours! Hope that helps…both I believe are standard Asian radius fretboards. @@JimmyStewart1 I hear you. There's just so many reviews that never even take a stab at fretboard width/neck profile, that it's frustrating for us buyers. Sometimes I use Squier/Fender necks as a comparison. I've never held an Indio guitar, but i did check out a Sawtooth tele recently - pretty fat neck, fatter than a MIM tele, for example. @@JimmyStewart1 The K output on pots vary. That's the first thing I'd check before buying pickups. If the pots are 250k and only put out 225k or less that is not helping. I keep a full stock of all values on hand. Test the tone pot reading, you can't get a reading on the volume pot when it's wired up I've learned. If the tone pot is weak good chance the volume pot is too. One Tele I have came with weak 250k pots, read about 218k, I put in 500k that read about 450k and Omgawd what a huge difference ✌

Thanks so much for the info David. I have a full set of pups, wiring harness, pots and output jack that was originally in my American Standard Swamp Ash Tele. I removed and kept them when I modded that guitar with active EMG’s. I think they will be a perfect upgrade to the LyxPro, along with the compensating Wilkinson bridge saddles I have as well. On the LYX guitar cause of the maple neck you can't compare rosewood to the maple you have to bring back the tone control on the LYX than you will get the same sound as the indio that's the difference I know I been playing guitars over 48 years my friend

I own a number of Tele’s, both solid bodies, thin lines with various pickup and fretboard combinations. The bridge pickup in the LYX Pro is just a bit microphonic in my guitar. Ha...yep! I much prefer the stock pups in the Monoprice vs the LyxPro....the neck pup is pretty decent, but the bridge in it is a bit tinny and a bit microphonic. I am replacing both pups, wiring harness, pots and caps, switch and output jack. Also the bridge saddles....it will be nice when done, as I do really like the “bones” of the guitar.
I went to monoprice and I guess they don't like left handed players. Could not find me one darn.

Thanks so much for watching and commenting. Yeah, the “southpaws” out there definitely have a hard time locating guitars. From time to time, I think I have seen Monoprice release a lefty as I recall. Firefly will do a few occasionally, along with Grote and a couple others…have you looked at Harley Benton? They are a bit larger manufacturer and may be able to provide a small inventory of lefty builds. Obviously, due to limited demand most builders simply won’t make many (if any) as they don’t want to sit on inventory. I do feel for the southpaws out there…☹️

Hmmm..I suppose it could be, but it wasn’t noticeable to me. I didn’t measure the body width of either, but side by side to me it’s negligible if at all. The LyxPro is definitely lighter however. The fretboard also had slightly “rolled” edges on the LyxPro, which I found surprising at that price point. Very comfortable neck...even with the gloss finish.
The Monoprice has a satin finish on the neck. Both were good buys....bonus to the Monoprice for including a decent gig bag and better sounding pups (IMHO)

Not just for beginners. Musicians steal instruments. I have been robbed several times. A well set up cheap guitar is best. If the -groids steal your stuff, you can replace. Expensive instrument loss wipes you out.

I was experimenting a bit with some o’drive and a bit of “bite” in the pick attack to gauge the differences between the two…especially in the neck pup as the LyxPro neck pup is not my favorite. I like the neck better on the LyxPro but prefer the stock pups on the Monoprice. Just playing around…😎

Well, for two $100 guitars, they are actually better than I expected them to be. The Monoprice pups sound better to me than the LyxPro and I prefer the slightly rounded fretboard on the LyxPro but both guitars are both better than expected in my opinion. I don't get it. You want to find out if all these cheap guitars are worth it, and you get a million videos that don't tell you what you need to know. How is that possible? Right now you are clicking a switch over and over again. One of the first things you say is one is string through the body, and the other isn't, and they you say it doesn't matter. Wait. 11 minutes in you mentioned fret ends. Congratulations.
This was not a review…the full reviews of both guitars are here on the channel and should answer some of the things you state “you need to know”.
This was done as a comparison between these two brands of “budget” Tele’s with emphasis placed on what is similar or different, depending on player preference’s (such as fretboard, pickups, body, weight, bridge, etc..) Pricing on both was already compatible, so based on price, which would be a better buy or deal…my statement on string-through or top loader is MY preference…it doesn’t matter. Appreciate your stopping in to the channel…

I don't think it matters whether it's a review or not. The question is why aren't you providing the information that we must have in order to make a purchase right away?
Why are you wasting this time on specifications which anyone could figure out for themselves simply by looking at the guitar?
As to the comparison videos, it should be obvious to anybody that it is absolutely irrelevant what all these specifications are. No one ever passes a blind test on any of this gear. That's why people stopped doing them.
We all have opinions…yours apparently is I wasted your time. I think there is WAY more content on RUclips that does that better then I do. 😎
