  • Richard Hammond reviews and compares two cars that were built with the driver in mind - the Caterham Super 7 Sprint and the Citroen Saxo VTS, to find out if it's worth sacrificing the practicality of the Citroen for the excitement of the Caterham. The Super 7 Sprint has a rather small 1.6L, 8 valve, K-Series engine, but this is more than adequate for a car of it's size and weight.

Hate to point this out but if i'm not mistaken that's a 1.8 vauxhall engine in the caterham not a k series.

Saxos, Clio’s and golfs ar the best for cheap track day fun in my opinion

Residuals for caterhams are high for two reasons, which are linked. Firstly the supply is small because demand is limited. Secondly, over 10 years that little Saxo will cover100K plus. The caterham will cover about 15 - 20K max and it will be pampered. Caterhams are just toys, like an expensive bike but not as fast. Little hot hatches get the c*** beaten out of them. They are magic.

13 grand for pocket rocket performance. You can't even buy a new vauxhall Adam for that! How time's have changed.

    That's not a k series, it's the basic vauxhall 1.6

Im sure Hammonds only got small feet but even so those clogs he is wearing are not ideal for driving any car let alone these 2 with their tiny footwells and pedals.

Whats the Saxo worth today ? £1k ? The Caterham would be worth 10x that ! Who would have thought that the Caterham was the sensible choice ;-)

@@1234langa4321 Yes - I reckon anything with real driver involvement will go up steadily as so much produced now has an auto box and driver assist etc whether you want it or not. They seem like an automotive alternative to Mogadon.
