Been trying to reorder flags alphabetically or by color; thank you for letting me know I have to follow Apple's color criteria: Orange to Grey.
Hi Carl! Great video, as usual!
Have you noticed that if you rename the "Flagged folders" on the left, then you also AUTOMAGICALLY rename the flags in the toolbar at the top? For example, if I rename (on the left) the orange flag in "To do", then also in the toolbar at the top the orange flag will be called "To do".
Yeah, I noticed that one too. :-)
Hi Carl, thanks for your video! I am currently using the flagging system across three mailboxes. I have access to two of my boss' mac mail accounts plus my own for the business. For some reason if we red flag something it syncs between us, but any of the other coloured flags are not syncing. Eg, if he flags something green on his laptop - I cannot see it on my laptop. Any ideas? I have gone down rabbit holes and come up with nothing!
Hi Kylie, ooh, that sounds strange. I suspect that might be one of those weird Apple bugs that only gets fixed when they update the OS.
Nice lesson! I wasn't aware of the full Flag function. I am confused about one thing. The lesson focused on "Flagged Sub-Mailboxes" not the "Action This Day" under Smart Mailboxes". Is the Flagged mailbox the replacement action for the "Action this ..." mailbox under Smart Mailboxes list? I hope I worded so you know who's on first. If I have correct understanding I would delete the "Action This Day" mailbox in the Smart Mailbox list. Using instead the Flag method. Thanks Carl.
That's up to you, Malcolm. Whichever works best for you.
Carl is the BEST ⚡️⚡️⚡️👌🤙❤️
Hahahaha, Thank you!
Carl can you please do a video on Apple Mail attachments and best practices for some reason Apple mail attachments feel and work differently on Gmail vs. Apple Mail
Carl do you like setting up rules exclusively in gmail or setting up rules exclusively in Apple Mail. And if you set up the rules in Apple 🍎 Mail on your computer 💻 do these rules transfer over to your cell phone and tablet? Thanks 😊 for your answer.
Most of my back-end rules are done in Gmail. I think it's better done at source and it also transfers over to Apple Mail on my phone and iPad.
Carl Pullein thanks 😊 Carl you are the MAN ⚡️⚡️⚡️
How do I get the Flags to show up in the Mail? I can''t see my flags next to the emails in the inbox. Thanks for the video!
Which device? I just tested it on my Mac and my iPhone and the flag appears to the right of the email in the email list.
@@Carl_Pullein yep got it too ty!
Great vid, Carl! I was not aware of the feature where I could *rename the flags*. * LOVED IT!*
Glad you liked it!
How to "remove flags" that were erroneously applied by the rules function is an important issue, could anyone provide guidance on this issue please.
Is there a key board shortcut to quickly toggle flags and clear flags? This would be amazing.
Sadly, not that I'm aware of.
I do not have a 'flagged' folder on the left side of my apple mail. How do I get that back?
Hi Angie, all you need do is flag an email and the folder should appear.
Thank You!!!
Your welcome.
What happens when you have multiple email accounts - can you name the flags differently for each mail account?
You could if you wish. It's up to you what you call the flags. However, you would still need to flag your emails individually. Apple Mail won't automatically do it for you.
I have 2 emails in my Apple mail. AOL. and Gmail. It shows I have 6 Flagged msgs. Clicking on the Flagged so the folder is empty. There is NO data button tot he left of "Flagged." Taking both accts offline does nothing the number "6" remains. I've clicked this and that with out any success? Any Idea as to why I have 6 phantom flagged msgs?
Not sure why, Greg. But it could be you have some flagged mails in one of your trash folders in your accounts. If you go to Gmail and AOL online directly and take a look. You might find them in there.
I will try that. Thank you!
Is there anyway where we can assign the flag to a particular email address. So that anytime I receive an email from that address, the email gets automatically flagged.
Not that I'm aware of, Neil. You can use VIPs though for specific emails.
When I flag emails, the flags don't show up in the sidebar to the left, and I find no way to rename them. For some reason they only show up in the email.
Flagged emails should appear in your sidebar in your "Smart mailboxes" area. If you don't have any smart mailboxes, then nothing will be showing. Flag an email and see if anything appears under your smart mailboxes. If not, you may need to create one.
@@Carl_Pullein Thanks, I managed to have them show up in the sidebar :-)
It seems that we can no longer have actual "FLAGS" directly next to our emails,... but are subjected to someone's random idea of 'organization' by having to go to a 'Flagged' folder to see what was flagged.
Am I missing something? Why would Apple rescind our ability of actually seeing what is or isn't flagged?
Hi Andrew, I just checked on my Mail and flag appear as normal and I also get a smart mailbox called "flagged". Not sure where the problem you are experiencing comes from.
@@Carl_Pullein Thanx for the reply. In my case, the flags do not appear next to my inbox messages. Yes, flagged messages do show up in the 'Flagged' box - but that does me no good. I've always liked having messages showing flags at a glance.
Any ideas?
@@AndrewProbert Hmm not sure why that is happening. If I flag an email, the flag shows up next the email in my inbox as it has always done so.
Thx, how to filter by flag color on iOS?
Sadly, you can't do that. iOS only recognised a flag as a flag not a colour.
What is the archive folder for?
Archiving my emails. They remain searchable if I need to reference them later.
thanks, thats cool!
Glad you like it!
That's awesome. The thing is that you can't replicate that in the iPhone because the flags are alltogether
True. It does not transfer over. But that could be on Apple's road map.
Carl Pullein thank you for the answer. Another one. I’m buying an ipad Pro. On that device the flags are showed as in the Mac or the Iphone?
