I can only hope that the proportion of fair customers outweigh the likes of the despicable people that sadly you come across from time to time. If I lived in your area I would be exceptionally pleased to buy a car from you, honest traders such as you are a delight to deal with.
Having reached the ripe old age of 67, the one thing I have learned is that if you are nice to people in shops & restaurants you get more out of them than if you rant at them…
Likewise, I find that most people will go out of their way to help if they are treated with a bit of respect. I've had a building society agent ask me to hold, near the end of a call to them to sort out a little hicup at their end, and then return to say that she had an apology/goodwill amount authorised and £50 will be credited to my account. I had never expected not asked for this, only queried the somewat consufing message in a letter.
never ever...in the motor trade have i seen "nice" customers treated better than "ranters"....if you behave "nice" you will get nowhere & get treated like an idiot.
I’ve just bought a 1974 VAZ 2101, it had its 50th birthday yesterday. It has been in a barn for the past 8 years, am I going to try and stiff the previous owner for the cost of parts to get her back on the road? No, I realise that there’s going to be lots of things that need to be fixed/replaced and I’m going to pay for it. Sadly the level of entitlement with some people is off the scale and they need to get in the bin. I salute you James for your professionalism and commitment to helping people, sadly there are far too many people out there quite happy to take advantage of your good nature.
James you have gone above and beyond with this customer. As soon as the first message came through about not authorising work before consultation with owner blah blah blah…you should have pulled the plug and said “fair enough you deal with your car mot and repair”. And going forward to save any confusion you should record in writing any agreements that are make with buyers on the invoice. That way it is clear for everyone.
You’re a top class bloke and establishment doing what you did. People like that buyer are a waste of breath and energy. But kudus to you for going the extra mile even though you knew you hadn’t promised the mot etc ❤
I would never ever deal with this customer again ,they are chancers, want something for nothing ,you are one honest guy James ,you try and help out customers when you can and usually at your expense ,if I lived in Devon you would be my first port of call for a car
The discussion shows their moves were planned and coordinated. The disparaging "shall I throw him a bone" means they're treating you like a dog. I appreciate you have a reputation to preserve but it doesn't mean you have to take every bit of crap.
For every 9 reasonable and morally upholding customers there will always be 1 halfwit that tries their luck like this. Had it recently where customers came in to view a car and test drive, all happy and even agreed to do a cambelt for them before pickup. A week later when they came to pick up the car, the dad (who wasn't there for the initial viewing) noticed a mark on the door edge (1 body imperfection on an 11 year old 50,000 mile car that was sold for £4000) and threw a hissy fit that they were going to go back on the deal because of that 1 mark even though it was 100% mechanically sorted. So I agreed to have it painted for them out of good will as we had done all of the work agreed to the letter and that mark was definitely there during the viewing, but by the by, we stomached the extra bill to keep them happy. Fast forward a week, and they phone up saying that there is laquer peel on the bonnet that "must be rectified too" whilst having the door sorted. I thought that it was odd that within a week the bonnet had gone from perfect to then having peeling laquer. They bring the car in and I notice a perfectly square piece of laquer missing from the bonnet. This car was bought as a car for their daughter to learn to drive in so it was blindingly obvious that they had stuck a learner plate on there and caused the damage themselves. When I pointed it out they then backed down and asked if we could get it done and they would pay for it. There are so many chancers out there that will take advantage of good natured dealers like yourself James. It's just a shame they don't treat us with the same respect with which we treat them.
I cannot believe the bare faced cheek of this customer totally unacceptable behaviour they should be ashamed of themselves . You James are a professional through and through .
You are a very tolerant man, You have more than execised your duty care to them, after receiving the "bone" text, I would have told them that they were endeavoring to con you. I would have then refused to do or pay for anything. Puting the ball back in their court and let the situation pan out, know that right was on your side.
Some people are just plain unreasonable. They are lucky you are such a gentleman. Not many dealers would have treated them so well. They did not deserve it.
I think that you handled the whole episode very well indeed and more than fair. I sense that the husband is long suffering and is used to her unpleasant behaviour and it’s a shame that he hasn’t corrected her from the start.
James i have been watching your video's for a fair while now and you are one of the best car traders out there with amazing customer care. I would not hesitate to buy a car from you and always keeping an eye on your stoc,k. These people have no respect and should be ashamed to treat you like this. Keep up the great work.
they clearly know how to work the system, sadly there are more and more people learning what they can get away with thanks to Google, they have used you and probably hoping to not pay for anything for the foreseeable future, you are too nice james, but dont ever change your character for people like these

Dear James , This customer , a lady , with not a 100% confident trait I believe, checking with her husband , also an alleged con-artist IMO. I believe . You caught them out ... Anyway a greedy person is often selfish and lacks consideration for others, prioritizing their own needs and wants above all else. They may be willing to manipulate or exploit others to achieve their goals, and may struggle to be satisfied with what they have. Greed can be a negative trait that can lead to destructive behavior, but it can also be used to create complex and interesting characters, REMEMBER what goes round comes round . You CANNOT carry on in life , with this behavior , it WILL catch up with you VERY quickly. Thanks , James Mr. Chops kind regards G. [ Chartered Engineer ] 🎞🚗👏👏👏.

I had never expected not asked for this, only queried the somewat consufing message in a letter.
never ever...in the motor trade have i seen "nice" customers treated better than "ranters"....if you behave "nice" you will get nowhere & get treated like an idiot.
@@kass9722 You poor person. Have you considered if there are any shortcomings in your own approach?
I’ve just bought a 1974 VAZ 2101, it had its 50th birthday yesterday. It has been in a barn for the past 8 years, am I going to try and stiff the previous owner for the cost of parts to get her back on the road? No, I realise that there’s going to be lots of things that need to be fixed/replaced and I’m going to pay for it. Sadly the level of entitlement with some people is off the scale and they need to get in the bin. I salute you James for your professionalism and commitment to helping people, sadly there are far too many people out there quite happy to take advantage of your good nature.
Unfortunately that's the difference between private sale and dealer
James you have gone above and beyond with this customer. As soon as the first message came through about not authorising work before consultation with owner blah blah blah…you should have pulled the plug and said “fair enough you deal with your car mot and repair”.
And going forward to save any confusion you should record in writing any agreements that are make with buyers on the invoice. That way it is clear for everyone.
You’re a top class bloke and establishment doing what you did. People like that buyer are a waste of breath and energy. But kudus to you for going the extra mile even though you knew you hadn’t promised the mot etc ❤
The joy is, they are probably seeing this tale on here..........And here it will be for years.
No good deed goes unpunished. So sorry to hear about all of this Chops.
I would never ever deal with this customer again ,they are chancers, want something for nothing ,you are one honest guy James ,you try and help out customers when you can and usually at your expense ,if I lived in Devon you would be my first port of call for a car
Absolutely disgusting behaviour, from a vile little couple…. God there someones neighbours 😢
The discussion shows their moves were planned and coordinated. The disparaging "shall I throw him a bone" means they're treating you like a dog. I appreciate you have a reputation to preserve but it doesn't mean you have to take every bit of crap.
It's hard to understand the mindset of entitled people, but whatever you do for them they will never be satisfied.
Could not of done no more 💯👍 . Your a good man after reading that text would have walked away from them .
The fact you deal with customers like that James will gain u business 👍👍.
You are a very tolerant man, You have more than execised your duty care to them, after receiving the "bone" text, I would have told them that they were endeavoring to con you. I would have then refused to do or pay for anything. Puting the ball back in their court and let the situation pan out, know that right was on your side.
Cheers mate
Not a customer I would ever deal with again.
Top man James, you’ll be rewarded for doing right by people which you always do 😊
Some people are just plain unreasonable. They are lucky you are such a gentleman. Not many dealers would have treated them so well. They did not deserve it.
They will obviously watch your video. What a pair of two hats. Well done for being the bigger person.
Keep up the great work.
they clearly know how to work the system, sadly there are more and more people learning what they can get away with thanks to Google, they have used you and probably hoping to not pay for anything for the foreseeable future, you are too nice james, but dont ever change your character for people like these
I understand how you feel I work in a supermarket and customers are so rude and abusive you are very friendly and helpful please don't let ass holes like that get you down.
Hi James you are your own enemy. I would of let them pay for it all except airbag light. Your running a business not charity. If it is not stated on sale then its for them to cover not you.
I think you went over and above what you needed to do, and well done to you for that. You appear to be a good guy who is trust worthy and fair. Keep these video's coming, I always look forward to viewing. PS, did you ever do the machine polish video you said you would as I may have missed it? cheers, Jimmy
New policy bud, just start saying no to people.
Agree, nothing wrong with being firm in a polite way, same in simply declining to deal with someone.
@@paulf2529 yes, poor old James just can't say no.
James, I wish I had your temperament. You did the right thing from a reputation point of view.
Cheers
That’s disgusting behaviour by these people. Hope they enjoy shopping elsewhere in the future
Having a bad experience myself with a dealer in Bristol, you go above and beyond to help your customers. You should be proud of what you do. You will always get the strange and unexpected when dealing with people.
You are such an honest and very reasonable person the way you were treated is disgusting. I will not swear👍👍👍👍👍
Cheerrs
People like that are one of the reasons why this country is in the state it's in. Well done for keeping your cool, I don't think I could have.
Don’t let them get you down. Keep on doing the right thing, it’s why you are such a success.
If the husband was truly sorry he would have paid for the work. Your approach will create far more sales with grateful customers ( & subscribers ) than the odd chancer you'll have.
Karma will take a massive dump upon them. Forgive them. They live their life like that, could not imagine living such a bitter twisted life. Well done you.
Tbh you did right to get the welding done, a dodgy trader did time for a rusty yaris that customer had for 5 mths and then took for mot. I do fresh mot on every thing retail bud. Jobs a nightmare.
Well done James you are sooo much better than these chancers. They will end up getting a reputation and no one will want to deal with them. Chin up, keep smiling and move on as they are not worth worrying about! 😊
Some people.....mind blown....
Do not know how you stay calm dealing with people like that , i guess it proves what a nice guy you are , would have liked to hear you tell them to pay the full bill but thats not who you are . Never change , you are a legend .
You've had 100's of customers who have been thrilled to bits with their cars and the service you have provided them. Try to remember these folks, rather than these chancers, she sounds like a right bounder.
