I’d like to congratulate the guy from BAE that convinced the army to draft up a specification to make it un armored so that the army will have to order the same vehicle but in an armored variant in the future when the threat arise. At least they’re going the same route as the medium tactical vehicle family that the army has and will just have to swap out the entire crew cabin when the army needs it in the future.
That's not exactly how it works. The Beowulf isn't made for the front line. It's primarily made for humanitarian aid disaster relief, fire fighting and rescue operations. Add to that, the BvS10 already has an armored version for front line military use.
Cameras would be better but cost more. I'd build integrated camera and multispectral light modules that could be positioned on the front, sides and rear for full surround visibility including some night vision, thermal and passive infrared (PIR) security functions. These would massively improve driving both forward and backward in darkness, fog, rain and snow.
The weight per area of the tracks is about half that of a man on foot so you can drive on unconsolidated snow fairly well with a light load but when you stop your passengers should put on snowshoes before stepping off the vehicle or they'll sink up to their waist.
Rubber tracks. I'm sure they can be adapted but you'll need corks on ice. Might do ok on snow but ice is prevalent in the north. Without corks that will spin like it's on a skating rink
Do you have cork in your head? Do you think they need your advise to build what they have been building for decads?? Do you think they are stupid??? and so on.....
Hägglungs BAE has made a banded wagon for many decades and has a long track record of producing reliable machinery. That’s why they are so widely used.
I'm disappointed that the BVS-10 Beowulf designers have missed so many opportunities to significantly improve the vehicle, instead choosing to only make very infrequent, incremental improvements. For example, go to a hybrid power system, get rid of the drive train and put a reluctance motor at each drive sprocket, add a small water jet to massively increase swimming speed. Many other capabilities can be added and performance improvements to existing capabilities can be made.
You can add a lot if weight and see how it's going to get stucked, roll över uppsida down, and get less agitera to climp steep hills, and sina under water also. You allways has to make compromises, you can't eat the cake and still have it for another day.
@@anderspersson7084 It's advertised as a 7.5 ton vehicle that can carry another 8 but obviously that assumes no swimming. The weight of a hybrid drive system trades against the transmission, prop shaft and drive shafts of the existing version so wouldn't be a huge net change in weight. The first thing you have to do is let go of the old Volvo snow tractor in your mind to see new possibilities. In research and development, ideas are a finite resource and some of this might have been done if everyone hadn't been so focused on the more marketable CV90 development. Streit has done the hybridization and water jet on their Storm prototype already and the Howes have shown that rubber tracks can go fast. BAE makes a 100-hp water cooled electric motor for buses though it's probably not a reluctance type but four would be okay for prototyping on a dual chassis design.

Absolutely brilliant Bit of kit
I used to drive the older version BV206 A lot of fun

Nice👍
Based on BVS10 but without the armoured cab.
Can i buy one with a campertrailer?
Just have to keep an eye on the passenger side door...
Those rear view mirrors are not going to hold in the terrain😂

They are rugged and fold in if you hit something.
PANSER beltebogn :O
if they only added large skis for the rear, it would have been super light and mobile in the snow, now it's just a tank
The rear bands are also powered 💪

I can tell you those rubber tracks work perfectly in northern conditions.

Studded tracks are available for operation on ice.
Looks an awful lot like a Gama Goat ...Which wasn't that great.
But it's not Gama Goat.

You cannot use a waterjet on this vehicle and the electrical motors would be of no use in water deep snow and in the cold.
