Many thanks for making these tutorials, otherwise a noob like me would never be able to fly such a complicated machine (albeit a simulation of it) anywhere near an acceptable level. Although I am still very much in the learning phase.
Terrific informative tutorial! Makes holding too easy! I'm sure I should stand on my head and use my left hand thumb and forefinger to get proper entry ( or something like that from the old days). Very well done, concise and complete, thanks for your time and effort in producing this tutorial for us.
I think a good follow up might be general fuel planning ie what is contingency fuel ifr reserve I also think a discussion on when to have an alternate when it comes to planning might be great as well. But got to say love love your videos a lot has been a great refresher for someone who has been out of flight sim for a few years (granted I have my associates in airline dispatch so a lot is like okay so this is how they use that in the cockpit)
Can you make a video of this situation?: you have your fplan configured, you are approaching to the landing airport and you realize you can’t land there, and you hace to change te airport, how you should proceed, in terms of, how to comunicate with the atc asking another airport for landing, configuring your radios and your mcdu to change your flight plan in mid of a flight. Thanks!!!!
Hi, I did a diversion tutorial, the scenario you describe fits pretty well in there. As for ATC, there's no standard phraseology defined for how to announce a diversion, so use plain language. Basically, just tell 'em something the likes of "scrambled egg 123, diverting to xxxx airport". They'll most likely give you radar vectors until they sorted a route out. For anything airplane related check my diversion tutorial.
Thanks for the video. Any idea why A/P overshoots both at entry and turning inbound to NDB? It seems it is not starting to turn outbound for this direct entry before exactly reaching to NDB. Also after starting outbound, distance between inbound and outbound leg gets tighter and it overshoots once more turning into NDB. Is that PMDG issue or B737 also does that in real life? If so why? Is't it necessary to be that much precise during holding?
Hello , so I.m flying the IRMN2 arr to LAX, The star at GRIPR int has flight level GRIPR b230, a 190. then theres a 10nm slash , so whats my altitude speed and 1 min intervals or 10nm
Hallo Emanuel! I have with the new B 737 the problem, that the Autothrust sometimes, not always, switches off during the start procedure. Is this a bug ? Greetings Wolfgang
Hi...Very good video - as always...A quick question please. How much prior notice do you have to give the FMS before selecting 'exit' hold, to avoid another full hold? i.e. if you exit the hold inbound to the fix, will it assume you will leave the fix straight away, or if you exit AT the fix, will it take you round again? thanks
I am wondering if there is a way to figure takeoff and landing distance required for specific weights. I am using the online performance tool you suggested for v speeds. But I have no idea if I can get off the ground on a 4,000 ft runway. Your videos are fantastic! Thank you!
Hi thanks again for this tutorial I was just wondering if I can use Vnav in the hold (does the vnav recalculate the path with the hold ?) or is it not a good idea ? For instance if for some reasons I m to high on an approach and the atc is giving to me a hold to loose some altitude
@737NG Driver, how come it doesn't command a holding pattern that it actually can fly? The turns are obviously too tight leading to a holding pattern looking like blob rather than a nice race track, is that a sim thing?
Your actual path along that holding pattern bothered me. Is there a proper way to make those turns possible? Edit: Why cant eh FMS figure out that track size immediately?

I was wondering how to fly a hold. I completely overlooked the hold button. It is quite easy. Thank you again!
I just did my first holding with succes! Thanks again!

Thank you for a nice tutorial once again. Holding aparently is a lot less complicated then what i expected :D.
Glad it helped!
Thanks for the video!
Could you please make one about the HUD : setup, different modes, approaches, etc...
Considered, but I have to find a pilot who actually uses the real hud first. My airline doesn’t have them.
there's so much to learn, it can be quite overwhelming just sim flying. couldnt even imagine the real mccoy

Great vid as always. Assuming right turns are default, how do you enter left turns? Assume you'd enter "xxx/L TURN" in the scratchpad?
Simply /L will do

Hi Emanuel,
I have noticed that the altitude has dropped by 400ft before entering the hold. Is this normal?
Thanks!
It’s a bug in the 737

Basically anything prior to the fix should work.
@@A330Driver ok thanks for that

If you can’t get off the ground the performance tool will tell you. As long as it gives you data you are covered and can commence the takeoff.
@@A330Driver Thanks!

You could, but in your specific scenario I’d probably use level change.

LNAV is bugged in the 737 at the moment.
The real fmc also has to redraw the pattern from time to time though. But not as bad as in the PMDG.

LNAV and line drawing needs some updates in the PMDG. Those are in the works as far as I’m aware.
Is it normal for the airplane to not be able to stay on the hold track exactly? Does that matter IRL?

Why does the holding pattern adjust its size?
In real life: The airplane adjusts it live based on speed.
In the sim: Bug
This is Microsoft Flight Simulator ???
thank you
